Didn't know you were on SDA. I stole most of my stuff from your WIP videos.
I'm not that much of speed runner unless the game I'm running is a game I like, so that's a pretty big compliment actually haha thanks! I haven't played the game in a few months and so I have one or two brain farts but it's all good. so I did a quick run an hour ago, it's not the WR but it's better than the one I just posted, Im aiming to have it up by tonight, my makeshift capture card is almost 10 years old, I think I need a new one. I found out how to kill Doc ock in one cycle by the way!!! I was so excited when I accidentally did it, I'll have more details once I post it.
Does the Hidden switch clip work on N64? Can't seem to get it to work: it keeps pushing me out every time I clip through it.
I'm not sure that the clipping works in the N64 version, I'll have to test it out.
Here's my newest run of 40:11
It's easily improvable and most of the boss fights have minor goofs, no deaths though. I'm awful at the zipline sewer level skip so I played it safe, it cost me some time though. The turrets in "underwater trench" suck. The main reason I posted this run is I got the Doc Ock "one cycle" kill (it's at the 36:29 mark)! The way I did it was I used web gloves and did a quick 3-punch combo, then I immediately shot web balls. I held down up+web and fired them off as fast as I could. The last one seems as if it clips through the shield, begging the question: can Ock be killed much faster, without deteriorating his shield?
Can't seem to do the Sewer clip the first try during a run, but during practice I get it 10 times in a row...Also failed at one cycling Ock because Spider-man got caught on something, so I didn't run up to him fast enough.
The best strat is to pin him against the desk (to the left of you when you start). You have to attack, dodge, range attack, and lure. Its not 100% consistent, but its the best strat there is currently.
Kid Mode has been magical for speedrunning since Scorpion skip has better odds plus you don't have to swing the pipes. Only downside is you can't skip in-game cutscenes. Scorpion skip on Easy difficulty has been quite the nightmare. Unfortunately I have to get that trick to even think about PB'ing. I really hope there's a more consistent strat out there somewhere that we haven't found just yet.
I have 2 Boss Quick kills to share. I only have the n64 and PC versions of this game (and the PC version doesn't emulate correctly on my PC) so if anyone can test these on the PS1 (and possibly PC) that would be super.
The first is Scorpion: I didn't find this quick kill, it was someone on TwitchTV (can't remember the user name but he speedruns this game a lot.) You have to hit scorpion with a web ball a few (and I do mean only a few) frames after he hits Jameson. He then jumps forward into Jameson and gets stuck. I trap him and web-glove punch him because 9x out of 10 he'll try to escape by jumping left or right. He eventually will but with the massive amounts of damage I do, he only needs to be hit a few more times so he can die before Jameson escapes. If you are REALLY lucky, Scorpion will land directly inside of Jameson and you can pummel him to death in 20 secs. This one is hard to consistently do but it saves a hell of a lot of time.
The second is Rhino: I found this one myself years ago and I don't know if any speedrunners use it. I'm confident in saying it's the fastest way to beat Rhino. You skip the opening cutscene as fast as possible. If he doesn't stick into the wall you have to restart the level. As quick as you can, jump up and left and then run to the wall where rhino is stuck and get as far back and to the left as possible, all before rhino gets un-stuck. Then creep your way towards him and tap right so that the camera is angled diagonally. This will make rhino run past the barrels and straight into the little nook behind the barrels. Jump on top of one and punch him to death.
Found Another Time Saver (Skipping the Cutscene at the end of Bugle's Basement):
When you have one generator left, destroy it from afar with a web ball and swing to the right where the cutscene would normally happen. If you get there fast enough, you'll skip it all together and you can end the level much quicker. This one works on the PC I have tested it.
Also as a side note, I booted up my old PC copy of spiderman, I expected it to be a disaster and run too fast, but I found out that it runs perfectly on my Laptop! No crashes, no graphical blips, and the venom chase even works correctly!
Hi, I've been looking through this thread. Has anyone ever done a speed run of it on hard? I did, and my best was 51 minutes on the N64 version. I also just did an all comics hard mode late last night, and I managed 1:04 hour.
Here are my best (I apologize, I don't remember the exact seconds):
Easy- 41 minutes (or something like that) Easy (All Comics)- N/A Normal- 44 min. Normal (All Comics)- Aprox. 54 min. Hard- 51 min Hard (All Comics)- 1:04 hour 100%- N/A
The all comics run could be improvable since it's my first time doing it, and I think I'm the only who's done the all comics run on something harder than easy. Also, for those who have the 64 version (not sure if it works in other consoles but you could test it), if you do an all comics run, once you get the comic, you can fall/die in Stopping the Fog since it saves a fair amount then climbing up. The game would still count the comic even if you died and didn't finish it. Again, I'm not sure if it works in other consoles.
Another thing, I've been thinking of doing a 100% run myself (which means I collect all comics and unlock every costumes). The problem is, I just learned that two of the costumes to be unlocked have to be in training mode, I don't know 100% how to do it, but I may figure it out if I do it. The third one (it's the stealth suit) you need to beat the game twice. Is it cheating if I use Captain Universe suite after I beat it on hard?
Since its a 100% run you'll do everything possible to get everything as fast as possible. If you can unlock it withotu typing in the cheat code for it then its usable for a 100% run.
Also, that cutscene skip is a nice find. Scene usually takes like 10 seconds.
Okay, I've tried to a 100% run. According Gamefaqs, I have to get over 10,000 points in the zip line training. That seems almost impossible to do it. If anyone knows any strats how to get it, let me know.
Can you tell us about your Hard/Normal Any% route? I'm wondering if we can get away with a run without a death abuse for webbing while still being optimal.
Also, Kid Mode is still in Public Verification. Messy, but still going forward it looks like. If I only I just could have submitted a console run instead, would be much easier to dissect.
Hi, in my normal run, I used to death abuse for web, but then when I played hard, I decided to do it less since I feel death abusing can waste like 10 seconds and compared to hard, it's not that hard (LOL!). If I'm below 2x ammo, then I die to get those 2 or 7 back.
I also learned that in the N64 version, if you're low on health on normal or hard, you can always quit the game and go to "continue" to refill it instead of die since you can run the risk of losing your ammo.
Another thing, for normal/hard is it possible to beat Scorpion without Jameson cinematic and one cycle Ock?
Scorpion Skip is possible on Normal. You have to get Scorpion and Jameson stuck inside each other though, not just the normal beat-up-scorpion fast trick.
Now that you mentioned it, I think it did happened to me, but I'm not sure if it was on normal or easy. I definitely know it wasn't hard. It's very hard to pull it off though.
BTW, KCHRules, I did those two other glitches you did. With Rhino, it's easier to do it on easy since Rhino has less health, less accurate, and Spidey has more. But on normal or hard, you could easily die or maybe I'm not doing it right. However, with that glitch, my time was reduced to like 2 minutes, and I managed to get a sub-37.
Now, for the glitch in Basement. It's easier if you have the fire web. The symboites can get in the way and obviously using regular webs won't do jack shit to them.
I learned that the clipping through small hole in Sewage Plant is possible in the N64 version. It's also possible to glitch through Waterfront Warehouse, but it's hard to figure out where to end or maybe it's not possible to end it.

How do you do these on the 64 version? I haven't ever gotten them to work. Also the Rhino trick works on every difficulty, once you learn how to do it correctly, you never forget.
Good News and Bad News
The good news:
This is the PC version, I found a way to get inside Doc-ock's shield. You have to wait until its about to shove you out and web zip over and over until the shield stops trying to shove spider-man out. (it takes a few seconds) Then you'll take damage and drop down right next to Doc Ock.
The bad news: You can't hit Ock. Yes it seems Ock behind the shield really is invincible because you can't even hit him. Seems like on hard and normal you'll have to two-cycle him. I don't have access to my n64 so I'll test this out on an emulator to see if you can do it on the 64

Hi, it works the same way you do in other consoles. You just need enough practice.
I may do the Rhino trick on normal or hard, but hitting him takes a lot longer than easy.
