CHARITY
Take This is a non-profit charity founded in 2013. They seek to inform the gaming community about mental health issues, to provide education about mental disorders and mental illness prevention, and to reduce the stigma of mental illness. They provide information for both individuals, such as you, your friends, family, or even coworkers; and also greater institutions. They educate and provide resources, options for intervention, and methods of helping those who suffer from emotional issues to promote healthier, happier, more productive peoples.
Take This does this by providing a large number of articles on their website, ranging from anxiety and depression, helping friends and helping yourself, to fostering social skills and dealing with stigma. They commission articles from leading clinicians about effective treatment and intervention. They advocate for awareness, reform at public events, and create “safe places” at conventions and expositions, where people who suffer from emotional issues can find peace and regain calm.
Take This has a mnemonic acronym as their motto and mantra. That motto and mantra is, “H.E.R.E.” It stands for, Hope is healing, Each person is unique, Respect your journey, and Every accomplishment is a victory.
It’s hard to talk about emotional issues, especially when so many fear that they will not be understood, or met with antagonism. Instead, they choose to suffer alone. But Take This helps to offer perspective and hope.
