It has been great to see new guys coming to this scene with insane new records and even beating demos thought to be optimal. Ten years ago I used to try some ideas but my efforts didn't pay off. I don't know what kind of demos are waiting to be updated so I'll share these ideas to you now.


E1M4 EH: After you grab SNG there is one ogre left from the 'house'. It can be killed in the intermission screen. Before the map changes you can shoot 13 rounds with the SNG and to kill the ogre you need 12 rounds. The problem is that the map has 7 intermission screen. I was able to equal Peter's record but not improve it. Arturo told me I'm insane even when thinking of that kind of improvement.

E2M2 ER: In the end of the map there is the GL and you are quadded. With 100HP a boost can be done off of the ogre and fly to the exit instead of bunnying up the stairs.

E2M4 NR: This isn't really an idea but as Joe says his demo is crap it ought to be improved. As you rocketjump your way to the silver key area don't go up the lift, you can do the rj earlier. I tried this in 2006-2007 and was one second ahead of Joe until the last room.

E2M6 NH: There is a trick with the LG by the pool of zombies. Discharge in the water does not kill you if you have enough health and armor and very little of cells. A few zombies can be gibbed this way and also damaging the shambler and fiend nearby thus giving the quad more efficient use later on.

E4M4 EH: I don't remember well how the route goes but look at Peter's project demo in qd100qlite2 and tweak it. Stubby's idea originally.

Doubt I'm ever touching e2m2 ER again unless some major improvement is found. Beating Peter's e3m3 NR would be the dream, though. Longest standing iD record in Quake history - soon 21 years old. It's cool seeing how many iD records are still very much beatable after all these years, you just gotta put in the time.

I don't remember having this conversation, but if you do I believe you! I was always a little lazy and didn't enjoy the idea of spending so much time on a single map, so I can see myself saying it was crazy to have to perform a perfect run only to have a 1 in 7 chance of getting the correct intermission screen and aim perfectly enough to land 12 out of 13 possible nails to kill an ogre. Yep, doesn't sound like the kind of trick I'd go for. Smiley In fact I purposely avoided maps where a very luck-based trick was near the end, or lets say after 30-40 seconds into the run... I could only stand to try luck-based tricks if they were at the beggining of the run. I guess this only means I lack/lacked patience. Sad
