As the thread title dictates, if anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
I am not looking for a step down transformer to plug into as that would stick out too far from any of my wall sockets, i have locked at AC/DC converters with power tips to plug in but they dont seem to have the right size for the plug on the back of snes.
Thread title:
I know you can use a european Mega Drive 1 PSU for the super famicom, but I'm not sure about the US SNES.

No.

The US SNES has a proprietary power plug tip.  You're stuck either buying an official US power supply and use a converter, or opening the SNES and replacing the power jack to something more common.
I recall someone finding a compatible adapter in the UK... some game store site sold them. I don't remember the site or the user, but I do know it exists. Maybe search Google or whatever online marketplace for one?
I live in Ireland and I use an Atari Jaguar power supply on my NTSC-U SNES. You can use a Megadrive 1 PSU on a Super Famicom - I've never tried the MegaDrive one on the NTSC-U SNES. Though I have a feeling it won't work. The thing is that the connector which plugs into the console is actually smaller than most connectors used on other consoles - if that makes any sense.

The website referred to above is called Consolegoods (i'm not affiliated with the guy in any way!). He sells connectors there for SNES - it's where I got my connector from.  It was like 12 quid or something.

I'll post photos and stuff if you need them.
