If no one has any insight then I'll edit this later and use this to keep my strats together.

Just wondering if anyone has tried running this game yet? I ran the last game and found it pretty fun. With the new game being out and levels being shorter with more features that could be interesting to speed run I wondered if anyone has any input before I start breaking this game apart for myself? Thanks Cheesy

I have completely destroyed the game.
I'm about 75% through routing it.
I'll put up the links to the levels I uploaded.

Will continue routing after AGDQ

Have fun breaking your arm doing these 10 million glitches =)

Oh wow haha, really wasn't expecting this... What time do you think (Estimate ofcourse) you could finish any% in? I've always been interested in running these games 100% but without glitches like these I thought it not possible in under like 12 hours for 100% but considering these glitches it may be viable.

Well I'm not going to AGDQ I don't think but I'll probably go to SGDQ so 'Ima work on this game until then.
Any% is probably around 2h30. Though I don't know how many unskippable cutscenes there actually are in a new game.
I've been routing with level select on a cleared file.
But yeah, this game is VERY broken (and I'm proud to say that is 95% because of what I found ^^).
You can do the doublejump with any villain + swapforce combination. I mostly pick Free Runner because he is very fast, and his tornado can pull very strong enemies off the side resulting in instakill.
That's do-able then ... I think with 100% you're looking at 6 hours if that's the case. Which won't be seen at AGDQ any time soon but I can still do it for my own fun :p

Yeah, well done for finding these. I'll need to do alot of crediting when i stream this :p I was going to ask if you NEEDED to use Free Runner because in Swap Force I found in most cases Night Shift was faster because of his teleport ability. I'll have to look at the entire run and see though because Free Runner is quicker in combat because of the tornado instakill but for normal movement Night Shift was around 30 seconds faster per level in Swap Force which is pretty big. Depends how often you get chance to teleport in the route since alot of these glitches are non stop with very short space to move without having to switch out again.
So I looked through a few of the videos, there's definitely quite alot of time to be saved even on this route. It would be close between Night Shift and Free Runner if there was more combat in this route but considering we're skipping so many battle gates then Night Shift is faster on most if not all levels just because of his teleport. When I've finished a casual playthrough and begin to try this out I'll let you know around how much time it saves and which Skylander to use on each level.

Also, when you start running this are you thinking of doing segmented or single segment? I'd prefer single segment but if you're doing segmented then I might too just to keep competition :p
I'll prolly do single segment, but i'm not sure what difficulty. Nightmare is just stupid because that adds waaaaaaaay too much time at the bossfights (especially golden queen and kaos). The 'logical' option would then be to take Easy since it's fastest.. but on the other hand that takes away any skill in combat.
I have quite a few skylanders but sadly it's impossible to collect all of them. I'll look into getting Night Shift if he really is that much faster.
For combat we'll have to figure out what skylander has the best DPS. Though Wild Fire (the Lion) is RIDICULOUS with his Lion Form doing about 500/s if not more during bossfights.

The main thing I've been looking for to completely break this game is an infinite jump, but I haven't found one yet.
Well I'm one of the crazy people that collects every Skylander... so over time I'll have playtested them all to see if there's any infinite jump possibilities etc.

Well there's nothing wrong with running Free Runner if you enjoy it or don't want to spend money yet; As I say on Swap Force he beat each level around 30 seconds slower than Night Shift so you can't really beat any WR with Free Runner :/

I also noticed you have the 'normal' version of Free Runner, both Free Runner and Night Shift have black/gold versions which are called legendary and have a small increase to stats. They weren't expensive but they're a Toys R Us exclusive so it's up to you if you wanna look for those on Ebay or maybe Toys R Us have some old stock online. It's a pretty small increase but something to consider.

Yeah the difficulty is a dilemma... I think it would be fun to have a Nightmare% etc but with not many people apart from us likely to run this then there's a big chance of the time never being challenged :p I think I'll go with Easy/Any% at first to see how quickly this game can actually be beaten, then if I get bored move onto a harder difficulty. Another thing to add is that when Night Shift is maxed he has an ability that let's him do I think double damage if he's at full health. So this also would add skill even on easy because you'd want to avoid damage at the same time as going as quick as possible.

Are we not using external power ups by the way? Some levels on Swap Force were quicker and I'd imagine again on Trap Force - Mostly on boss fights where some Power Ups like the hammer basically double your damage. I was a bit confused on the ruling for this but I'm ok with not using them.

I'm pretty sure you can use anything you want. Because of all the extra stuff it's pretty hard to call any% "New Game" or "New Game+".
I guess it's totally up to the community to decide what is or isn't allowed, but I'm all for using anything available. If people find this discriminating for people who don't have the money to get everything they need, we can always add a 'no powerups' category.

Also: any idea what game has the hat with the highest speedboost?
Yeah sure, Skylanders always seems a bit of an expensive game to get into but not really, especially for speed running. The power ups are pretty cheap especially if you buy them seperate on Ebay or something. I'll look into this at some point.

I'm not sure yet since I'm only 2/3 of the way through a casual playthrough, are you sure speed is the best stat though? Sounds weird since we're speed running but doesn't speed just increase attack speed? Wouldn't like %50 crit be better or something for the boss fights?
We'll be switching out skylanders anyway for bossfights, because the Trap Masters do insane DPS compared to any other skylanders because of the 50% attack boost around villains. Crit would definitely be the best stat to boost on the attack skylander. But yeah there's still a ton to be tested. My routing so far is just limited to the fastest way through the levels with the glitches I found. Some are so insanely hard though =/.

Yeah I wondered about that, well there's alot of testing to make it optimal down to the seconds but we're not too far from being able to start running it.

Well I love the fact you say a Skylanders game is 'hard' to speedrun, Swap Force was fun but only because I love this game - it was pretty easy. The difficulty of some of these glitches adds some skill though, so this game feels more like a Speedrun should do Cheesy
Yeah I ran Swap Force too a few times and it was pretty much just run straight to the goal. I never did any glitchhunting in that game though. But yeah I had to re-record some of the levels here about 10x before I got the route 'somewhat' clean, because some of the glitches are so precise. If you need an explanation on some of the tricks feel free to ask btw, the doublejump is just mashing, but the teleport glitch requires some very precise timing.
I don't think Swap Force is as broke as this game, and the few glitches/exploits it has they never patched like the money exploit. I felt like the whole of Swap Force was mash O to teleport past enemies > kill boss > next level > repeat - This game has alot more to it.

Yeah I'll message you or something if I'm confused. I'll practise what I can until you get back from AGDQ then we can maybe start racing or something just to get used to the game and see what we can find.
Sure, racing would be fun. I'm uploading levels 11-15 atm, but youtube is slow.
I quickly searched what the stats actually do, Speed does infact increase movement speed. So Night Shift would have a speed hat no doubt. Elemental power only works in areas where a certain element is strong in, so even though there's potential for like a 250% damage increase I don't think any boss fights have an element bonus. So for the trap masters that just leaves the crit helm. I'll do some more searching at some point to find which hats from which games but we know for certain Speed hat on Night Shift and Crit hat on Trap master (probably Lion)
Don't forget about the Trinkets. They also give a small +5 boost to things.
Are you talking about the things you equip in the same menu as hats? Because I can't seem to find anywhere that shows you what bonus they give
Yeah they're hidden stats, you get to see the boost after you equip them for like 1 second.
Can't find anywhere that just gives a list of what each Trinket gives =/ Guess I'm going to have to unlock them all and try them on one by one >.<
I don't even know how to get half of them.
I'll be uploading the next 5 chapters in a few minutes btw.

Well I'll make a note to check them out when I complete it 100% to see if there's anything I can find.

Ill watch them in a sec
Chapters 11-15 added in top post.
Unless you can make an accurate description in text form now about how to do the teleport then I think I'll just practise the double jumps etc until AGDQ finishes
Teleport glitch can be done in 2 ways:
- the normal teleport: use teleport and press switch right after, i'd say about 5frames (I have no exact figures at all, but from speedrunning experience it feels like about 5 frames), optionally mash the jump button to airjump out of the teleport (with a swap force skylander)
- the jump teleport: jump with hoodsickle, use teleport Right after (within 2 frames or something), and then switch like above (~5frames). Airjump possible after that.

It requires a lot of practice and doesn't work all the time, especially on ledges. Just try it untill you get the feeling.
