In Canada, milk comes in bags!
Found this game yesterday and I've been playing it for a while now. The only doable run for this game would have to be becoming the most notorious pirate in the sea. I did a pretty much blind run of this and messed around a lot but got just over 50 minutes. This can be improved on a ton BUT this game is so full of RNG I don't know if fastest times would be based on skill or luck. Here is a very vague text tutorial for the beginning of a "route" I dont know what time frame would be best but difficulty will have to be the hardest. I did a run on the easiest difficulty just to figure out where everything was and got a bit over 50 minutes. My theory is the pirate towns always stay in the same place, but they might have different names which would make starting the run very difficult if you get Henry Morgan or Blackbeard as your first fight. I'll be running this on original Xbox but it is available on steam for relatively cheap. If I find more people run it on the computer i might change.

Couple tips I have figured out
Find indian war canoe and capture it ASAP, specialize in navigation, always use rapier, if it gives the option to button combo to make the battle more equal fail all them it is much faster, raise your masts when going towards the wind, talk to the barmaids and bartenders they tip you off to the location of notorious pirates, more to come.

If you want to help me route the run it would be useful if I had a world map with all the pirate bay locations labelled, below I'll put a world map below with all the regular cities, but no pirate cities. I hope you all get interested in this game and have a good day.

Ah, saw this in consoles and got excited for a second - I think of this as a PC game.  I've been poking at the original 1987 version, myself, lately. In that one, the retirement score is the only way to define a run and is 1-100 so quite convenient. That's available in this version, too, though it's 0-126, and only 103 is actually needed to get the top rank. Personally, I'd encourage you to examine this method of scoring as it's quite a bit more true to the range of activities in the game than simply defeating the other 9 guys on the list.

I've played my fair share of this version as well and never found it nearly as compelling. For what it's worth, I'm pretty confident that the pirate bay locations change from game to game, so there'd be no consistent route.

lazerlong has speedran this game in the past (PC remake version).
