BATMAN: THE VIDEO GAME (funkdoc plz add whatever you want)
- Game history and interesting trivia: Released by Sunsoft in 1989, the same year of the movie it is based on which features Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker.
- Run History: First SDA run was just over 13 minutes by DLH112 and stood until LigerofFoturne was the first to get sub 12. This run stood for a long time until an epic back and forth between Funkdoc and Dxtr lowered the time to 10:19 (WR by Dxtr).
- Other runners: BadBrakes, Cyghfer
- Interesting glitches and skips: N/A

DOUBLE DRAGON II: THE REVENGE
- Much of this will be provided to my couch commentators due to the secret nature of the run.
- Other runners: DK28, Feasel, Heidrage, Jprophet22, Mikwuyma, Zoast
- Interesting glitches and skips: N/A

NINJA GAIDEN:

- Game history and interesting trivia: Released by Tecmo in 1989 in the US. Most well known for being the first game to introduce cinematic cutscenes with a heavy plot element and combine them with fast paced platforming action, and extreme difficulty.
- Run History: The first SDA run was just under 14 minutes by tmont, and then this title quickly became the most contested run on SDA as it was obsoleted 7 times by 6 different runners.  The time slowly dropped over the years to the current WR of 11:50 by Exo which is near perfection for this game given current strategies.
- Other runners: Arctic_Eagle, Arcus, Dxtr, Exo, Hotarubi, LigerofFortune, Vugmer, the SRL racing community, and several other Japanese runners.
- Interesting glitches and skips: 5-3c damage boost into loading zone of 5-3d known as the "sex panther" is the hardest boost in the game and saves the most time of any damage boost. Slash cancelling allows you to use your sword while in mid-air as many times as you can mash down + b (usually around 6-8 for top players).

RosenkreuzStilette is a Japanese action platformer doujin soft game developed and published by [erka:es] and was released for Windows PC on December 31, 2007 at Winter Comiket 73. Rosenkreuzstilette's game mechanics are based off the original Mega Man series created by Keiji Inafune, though Rosenkreuzstilette uses a setting similar to Konami's Castlevania series. Rosenkreuzstilette makes various references to not only to the original Mega Man series, but as well as the Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero series, Castlevania, and other various video and computer games, anime and manga series, visual novels, table-top RPGs, and board games. A digital re-release of the game as was later released as Rosenkreuzstilette -[erka:es] The Best- Edition on July 10, 2009
RosenkreuzStilette Freudenstachel is the sequel to RosenkreuzStilette. Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~ was originally set for a Summer 2009 release, but was later delayed repeatly, until its final release on October 20th, 2012. The main protagonist of Rosenkreuzstilette ~Freudenstachel~ is Freudia Neuwahl, who served as a major supporting character and boss in the original game.

-continuous slide, your slide lasts for 21 frames and if you press the slide again during the last 3 frames it will renew your slide.
-jetslide, if you line either zwei or strudels flugel, with a ledge and slide off of it you keep your flying speed and add your sliding speed to it.

- Released in 2001, this is a remake of the original Dr. Mario game on NES. It includes more play modes (such as story, marathon) and multiplayer can be up to 4 players instead of only 2.
- This is the first game I ever speedran.
- neskamikaze did a good job explaining speedrun strats; I use pretty much the same philosophies when running this game.

Super Marisa World is a early Touhou fangame by Double Cluster. It stars Marisa Kirisame and Koakuma on a quest to save the princes, Patchouli. The majority of outside influence comes from Super Mario World, but other Mario games are paid homage as well (mainly from its bosses).

Liteyear runs this game and is the current WR holder.

Metroid (100%)
-One of the first games released for NES. Also one of the first (sidescroller) games that allowed scrolling to the left as well as right. A lot of series staples were introduced in this game, such as beams, Screw Attack, Varia (which was actually a mistranslation of the word BARRIER), along with many enemies which have been present in many future Metroid titles. This game got a complete remake in 2004 "Metroid Zero Mission" which improved every aspect of the game, and added a lot of newer items from later titles.
-The original 100% run was a 58:51 by Red Scarlet. She then improved that farther to 56:40 with an improved route, and better play. Most of my route was taken from her run, since there's not a lot of options for routing 100%. I came into the scene in 2006 with a 52:23, with even more optimized play, and a few new tricks. This was all before screen wrapping was allowed. The current record stands at 45:29, thanks to a lot of screen wrapping (and some even more optimized gameplay).
-As far as I know, myself and Red Scarlet have been the only ones who've tackled this category. Other runners for this game for any% and 2 Boss any% are cak and jprophet.
-Screen wrapping is the most prevalent trick used, which involves "quickmorphing" as I call it (rapidly morphing and unmorphing) while inside of a closed door to end up in the ceiling. Once at the top of the screen, Samus will wrap around to the bottom of the screen, allowing her to access places which would otherwise require an item, or a significant detour. Screen wrapping can also be used to go up as well, which is used once in the run after Inner Norfair has been finished.

Crystalis (any%)
-Crystalis is a Zelda-esque top-down action game developed by SNK, the makers of great games such as: Athena and Ikari Warriors. It was released very late in the NES life cycle (1990). A lot of the game revolves around having the correct sword equipped for each enemy, and good experience and MP management. The game requires that the player is a certain level just to be able to hurt enemies in each area, which requires a bit of grinding to progress in some cases. It was later ported to GBC, which is considered to be an inferior version of the game for many reasons.
-My initial run of this was done in Jan. 2005 and was a 1:29:21. In Oct. of the same year, I improved the run to a 1:09:06 with the addition of some better experience grinding spots, better execution, and a couple glitches which saved a pretty significant amount of time. The current record stand at 1:05:23, which I set about a month ago.
-I know tmont played around with this game back around the time I did my 2nd run. Outside of him, UraniumAnchor is the only other one to pick this game up (for SGDQ).
-Shop Glitch: When buying items, if the cursor is moved at around the same time the purchase is confirmed, the item the cursor moved to will be purchased, but it will be purchased at the price of where the cursor was. This can also be used in shops where there is an empty slot to buy items for free.
-Ghetto Flight: When dismounting the dolphin, there is one frame where if you jump, the game will still think you're over the water, and allow you to float out as if the Flight spell were used. It even drains MP at the same rate as Flight. It's used to skip the entire Island Fortress.

Double Dragon Neon
-Released Sept 2012, Double Dragon Neon took the classic beatemup series and put a lighthearted 80's spin on it.
-Much of the run relies on gleaming attacks; successfully dodging an attack by ducking results in having 300% attack power for a few seconds. Combined with using the most power stance allows for extremely fast kills on most enemies.

Final Fight 3
-First released in Japan as Final Fight Tough in December of 1995, it landed stateside the following month with a slight re-name.
-Introduced street-fighter style special moves and supers to the traditional Final Fight formula.
-Also introduced branching paths based on environmental destructibles.
-The primary technique to save time in this game is tricking the input buffer into losing where it is in an attack string by running for a few frames.

Bionic Commando
One of the most tech-heavy platformers for the NES.  The grappling hook takes years to master, and people are still finding new ways to use it.  Strats for this game have evolved a lot recently, and I will try to show off some tricks and glitches that haven't been seen in a marathon before.

Super Dodge Ball
Wrecking racist stereotypes from around the globe with Sam's ground-super isn't as easy as it looks.  This game is about manipulating enemy positions, steering the ball, struggling with the game's bizarre targeting system, and horrible horrible RNG.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Don is so powerful.  Raph is death-warp fodder.  I don't remember what the other two turtles are called.

Zelda II
The category is Any% (glitchless) with deaths and Up-A warps.  This is technically the fastest method of beating the game from a new file without using wrong-warp techniques such as fairy glitch or healer glitch.  Intentional deaths are used to save travel time and to refill magic, which simplifies the leveling plan and allows you to spend your XP on a high attack level.  Pressing Up-A on the 2nd controller forces an instant game-over, which warps you back to the starting temple and refills your lives.  This is used many times in the run to cut out a significant amount of backtracking.

Pilotwings 64
- One of the two launch titles for the N64 (along with SM64). This game relies heavily on a unique kind of finesse that is needed for the loads of "just feel it" tricks/techniques in the game. Things such as quickly slowing down the glider from full speed, shooting targets in the gyrocopter from a mile away, and landing vehicles on their targets at dangerously fast speeds showcase this.
- There was no existing full run time I could find anywhere, so I basically came into the game just trying to find the quickest way to get a bronze medal on each tile, which triggers the credits. Several iterations of route changing occurred over the months of optimizing this run. The most interesting changes came from the tiles with 3 separate levels, since acquiring 210 points from a total pool of 300 point in the three stages can often be done in a million different ways. Sometimes you skip a level almost completely and do the other 2 levels in full, sometimes you skip two levels half way and do the third in full. It all depends on the levels and how the points are allocated in both landing and the level goal (shoot targets, fly through rings, etc.)
- Twitch staff member Programmax runs this game currently, and Controllerhead ran it back when I was in the process of routing the game. Controllerhead is responsible for a few of the things I still do in the run, most notably the thermal current boosting in the hang glider levels.
- All of the skips in the game come from skipping sections of levels that are unnecessary given you only need 70% of the total points available. There is one crazy glitch in the Japanese version (which I don't currently have) that saves maybe 10 seconds in the run. Basically you run out of fuel in the rocket belt while playing on a level with a ball and goal, fall to your death from a certain height and you automatically get 100 points. No idea why it works but it was fixed for the US version.
