I ordered Japanese copies of some snes games because they're much cheaper and I know playing them on a snes isn't too difficult, but I don't know 100% how I'll go about it. I'm not really comfortable opening up the system and filing down the tabs on the snes that i've had since my childhood. I have a game genie that already has the front plate part broken off, and i'll just need to break off the back part to use it. I've been wondering though  if there is any dedicated device/adapter just for what i'm trying to do? If i ever wanted to speedrun one of these games it would be weird/not allowed possibly even if I'm just using the game genie as a passthrough.

HELLO!
A Game Saver *should* do the trick.
I had a Game Genie and never had to do anything with it to get SFC games to work on it. I bought it used though so I guess it may have been already modified....
not sure where else to ask this, but I've been using game genie as a passthrough and it works fine for Tales of Phantasia. Star Ocean just arrived and whenever I play it the screen is 95% vertical white lines. I think it has to do with the S-DD1 chip that was only used in Star Ocean and Street fighter Alpha 2. I'd like to know if this is just because of the game genie. Would it be fixed/work with a game saver or if i was able to put the cart in the console directly?
The problem is most likely caused because the game genie is not passing through the pins used for expansion chips (or perhaps is using the pass-through pins for its own purposes).

Yes. Though i haven't personally tried using a gamesaver as a passthrough for games with expansion chips, but some googleing turned up some results that report that it will work.
Fucking Weeaboo
If you happen to have the special screwdriver for opening up SNES carts, you could do a board transplant into a SNES cart. Just remember what is where. Tongue
