I survived MIKE-Fest 1

A wile back there was the discussion about every runner getting his one little site with a few infos about the runs he/she did and so.

The main problem was that this would be a real lot of work for the already busy stuff.

So I got the Idea if there was a wiki like the [Strategy Wiki] only that the writer of one topic can change things.
Every runner how want it coude make them self a little site were some infos about them (The runs, how you found SDA and so on.)

If there were a few entries it could get linked to the front page.

Also this information could be used during the marathon from the commentators to supply the viewers some infos about the runner how is running a game (People love useless infos)

Just some Idea how was flipping in my mind
thoughts??

I think that's a great idea.

The only problem would be setting it up so only you could update your own page. However, I don't think people would go around changing everyone elses' pages... but you never know.

I assume SDA could very easily create an area for this. Smiley

I mean just add a link to the side "SDA Runner Wiki" and there you go:

Well, Wikis exist on the principle of good faith. If you want to control it a bit though, make people register to edit the wiki, and if they abuse the privilege, ban them. So long as someone checks the recent changes periodically, repairs can be easily made.

I don't think anyone would really bother to mess up runner pages. And if they did, it could probably easily be fixed. Just having it as a wiki seems like it would work out pretty well. It could be implemented with no hassle whatsoever.

It's a wiki (the kb that is), just go and create a new runners list page and link it from the wiki main page.

Also, if you sign up for a wiki account, you'll have your own user page you can alter to whatever you like. It shouldn't be too hard to make it so that only the owner of those pages are able to edit them.

I think it would be more polite to wait until the admins okay the idea before doing this. It may be a wiki but that doesn't mean anyone is free to put whatever they want on it.

My feelings on The Demon Rush

I have no problem with it, but I'm too lazy/busy to implement runner pages in the wiki. As moooh said, anyone can create a runner's list and start creating pages, so all we need is someone motivated enough to do so.

In some sense, I feel this is the best way to go. Just having a list of the runs players have done. However, I think you can edit your usernames on the wiki itself if you wanted some sort of background info on various runners.

I would like to see everyone use the same format, which would include game name, category if it's not any%, system, time, and date completed.

We could make a template for runs so that they would follow the same format.
Also, if we do switch to type A (see discussion page) we could probably use a template for each runner page as well.

Two questionz: If an run has been verified but not yet at the site, can it be added already?

Also, if an run is invidual levels by multible persons, how is that supposed to be put there?

Of course these aren't "official" answers, but just my 2 cents:

Since verified runs can be obsoleted before they even go up on the site, I see no point in doing the extra editing. I'd just wait until the run's on the site, because usually that guarantees it'll be on there for a good while and there's no need to keep messing with it on the wiki.

I'd think each IL run should be listed separately on a runner's list since they are separate runs. If you're going for a format, you'd just put the stage name/number and % if applicable where you'd normally have the category.

Agreed on spot 1.

However, let's take Ganbare Natsuki-san for invidual levels. Has 50 levels. I have around 20 of the levels in my names (IIRC). Then is my hopefully coming run on similar game where I have 50 levels.

Those being all put invidually as separate runs would be very unuseful.

Perhaps then it'd be better to do that format if they only have one level, and then if you have multiple you say "x/y IL runs" where x is amount of IL runs by the runner, and y is the total amount of IL runs for the game? I dunno, it's a little tricky. I think it'd have to be done on a game-by-game basis, really. Because like, in Kirby Super Star, the individual game runs for it are technically IL, but anyone wanting to watch the KSS runs would obviously want to know the particular part of the game being run. For Ganbare... well, it's 50 f'ing levels lol

Speaking of KSS, 0xwas really needs to submit his runs, and I need to start recording mine. :x :x :x

edit: also, tigger's format for IL is basically what I was thinking, that works

I am really liking Tigger77's format right now as the base format Smiley

It's (very) informative and clarifying. Although it is missing the total game time in it's current form, which would also be handy dandy.
Maybe it would fit between the Seg/IL Number and Date part. Although when you got several IL runs you can't put the times there, but that shouldn't be too big of a problem I think.

[edit] Also, now I think about it there are several runners that (only) used their real name (me included) when submitting their runs. How should this work, just use their real names? Just thinking that it would look rather silly seeing real names in between neskamikaze and pootrain and such. ^^ (also because real names (obviously) have a first name and a surname.)

Well, there's no way around that since there are also people that only used their nickname when submitting.

as long every runner is only one time on the list it should be fine because if I saw a good run looking at the runners name and searching in the list for his other runs I should be able to find him so we should use the submission name.

The new wiki page is just a list of runs sorted by runner, not a unique spot for each runner to have their own page as the first post in this thread seems to be describing. Sorting the run list by runner should be handled by the game list on the site's main page, and this has been brought up before (as early as 2005) and sort of handled on the SDA 2 prototype. Until the site gets basic sorting functionality Roll Eyes

it's probably not a big deal to have the duplication of effort between two run lists, but anything maintained by hand is bound to get tedious.

As Moooh brought up on the List of runners talk page, another method would be to categorize runners' personal wiki pages where they can put whatever they want, such as notes, what they're currently working on, links to old runs that have been obsoleted, etc. Categories are built dynamically and automatically alphabetized (see Category:Games for instance). I thought this alternate (and superior, in my opinion) method should be mentioned here, since the talk page may have gone unnoticed.
