OH my GOD. TRAMAMPOLINE
Scaler is a game that came out for Gamecube originally. Then the PS2. Then the Xbox. It stars Bobby "Scaler" Johnson who has been captured and transported to another world where he is a lizard. Not the best explanation but it's something. Basically you do all sorts of lizardy things and collect blue, green, and orange stuff which is basically the main color scheme. You meet other cool lizards and learn to transform into stuff. It's all in all a pretty fun game.

I haven't found any runs, boards, or discussions of this game so I figured I'd start small and give it the good ole' college try.

Scaler Chimerum (first level) Any% - 5:28.27 -By me

Currently i don't own any capture hardware so there's no way to prove this time. I'll be posting a lower quality of my newest run soon.

This is my first run and probably not the best time, but seeing as how no ones run this yet, it's the best time so far.
MWUHAHAHA

To be serious for a second, I feel this game has a lot of speedrunning potential and I have no one to even discuss it with. So if anyone could maybe consider taking a look at this game, Yeeeeaaaa... that'd be great. Anyway, cheers. Smiley

I actually picked the game up again (Gamecube for me) to see if I might be able to speedrun it, but then I forgot something: It's really hard and I suck at games. But yeah, it's a really nifty game with loads of character to it. I'm sad no other games were made. I need to time myself or something, probably practice stuff a lot, but it takes a LOT of time and I don't have any, what with my job and all Sad But yeah, nice to see someone else thinking of running this game.
I actually do 100% for this game, it's pretty fun
animal people aaaaa
I just recently (read: yesterday) got this game and I've been enjoying it so far.

I'm probably going to start running it after I finish it, so I was wondering if anyone has any route notes or anything. I'm curious what people think is the best route for upgrades in Any%. 100%, I'm assuming, would be all the upgrades.

I have just started running this game and technically my best time any% is a 3:03:01 but being a rookie I removed loading screens. To my maths there are 5 minutes and ten seconds of loading screens per run on average, so this is more like a 3:08:11. I am replacing a wire for my game cap and I will post a video of my next best run soon but I'm fairly confident I can beat this even plus the 5 minutes for loading times (My penultimate split is 30 odd minutes, which is ridiculous). So far, I have very little in terms of a route, in terms of upgrades, the most important thing is to have three electric bombs lined up for looger, for multiple reasons, and to get iron claws before Koradus or so. If anybody has ideas about the very last forced battle before egg 20, they would be appreciated, as I spend about 30 minutes there per run.

Sorry for the late post, I'm really keen to see some interest in this.

Alright, I did a legitimate run. It's a 2:54:31 and it's pretty bad, but it's a start. I've left the splits attached in case anyone wants to compare.

Everything up to egg 5 was pretty ok, but I had a really stupid death at the very end of egg 5 and some incredible comedy at the beggining of egg 6. Altus equally has plenty of easy time saves. Dragon, Desollum and Koradus are ok but far from perfect and eveything past here (except bootcamp and looger) is utter garbage. Rattlecrab should take four minutes, it took ten; I died on both doozum challengesl I died countless times during fight sequences on Iridium and Voidrem, and despite getting the final fight on Komoldo relatively quickly (compared to 20 minutes before at least), I didn't have enough 'Klokkies' for bomb container 3 and had to (aka decided to) farm for another 5 minutes. I need to practice combat so I don't spend an hour dying on the last three eggs. I've also just realised I'm running this game in PAL, and I don't think it's PAL60, but looking at some NTSC footage, it looks like the game is sped up to compensate. If not, then dividing by 1.2 will do, considering that the run is glitchless for now and isn't nearly popular enough to have a PAL% catagory.

I'm aiming for sub 2:50:00 next run.

So, I am VERY interested in doing this as well, I literally began practicing this last year, but sorta lost motivation as at the time, I didn't have a very good computer becuase I'd want to record and stream. Plus I have no really good knowledge on what hardware and stuff I'd need for a North American Gamecube. Anyways have there been any developments on this? I'd like to work on improving this run though! Make it nice and smooth. And yeah, Iridium...ugh I was on that one for a while in my initial playthrough. The underwater level freaks me out, like any underwater level >.> Damn scary ass fish! The Krock track level...have you found any improvements on that one? It takes forever, even to get Egg, let alone the extra Klokkie Crystals or whatever they are.
Well, I have gotten streaming set up and I will from now on be streaming any attempts I make. I did a test stream today where I practiced and routed and (if everything remains as I think it will) I'll do another on Friday with some runs at the end of it. So far I'm trying out different upgrade combinations and seeing which is best and seems that the most consistent is iron claws asap; 4 HP by iridium and 3 bomb containers by Looger. With the krock level, the best way I know how to do it is just hit the speed boosts, continue to use your own boosts and don't die.
Heeeey! Just saw you posted back, got distracted with finishing school and stuff. I'm much more available to play Scaler now, no condition to stream yet but maybe I can just record youtube runs for now! If I remember correctly the track level had two tricks I'd use to keep speed. When breaking through those barrier/crystal/whatever walls, either green or purple, can't remember what color. Jump and then use spikes as it keeps most speed. And back on the level you get that a ability, if you angle yourself a certain way against the flower things you go into (I think they put you onto those vine tracks) you can clip in early and save a bit of time on the full opening and closing animation of the flower! I haven't seen anything else yet! But will post more as I play~

Not sure if anyone still has any interest in this, but I found some timesavers.

I'll do the rest of the game later, I think these finds save probably 2-3 minutes combined.
Hi. I'm still interested in running the game, just on a hiatus until my exams are over (June). Will also start a bit streaming then; sporadically until then.

Thanks, these are really helpful. I've been trying the L1 tricks and I'm somewhat consistent on them now; I'll practice L2 tomorrow. Seems like you can just about touch the ground without activating the arena and once you're constitent at that you can skip a number of them. As if it wasn't obvious, the levels that could really do with arena skips are the final 3 (not including bosses) as it's at this point where I tend to die at least once in combat but even if you don't they take 2-3 minutes and there are several per level.

I'm just doing a playthrough right now, when I'm sure those arenas will be able to be skipped too. Some thing to note is that you can seemingly skip any arena if you just do repeated one frame jumps right as you hit the floor, but this isn't anywhere close to viable for actual runs.

Also something worth noting about the arena I didn't skip is that the main issue is that if you try jumping around it there is an invisible wall where the foliage is, which means you're not able to effectively jump around it.

edit: just read you already noticed this

nice double post @yoshipro101

Something to note. If you manage the arena skip at 0:34 there's no need to do the skip at 0:43 as you're already past the checkpoint; just jump off the side to kill yourself and you'll respawn the opposite side of the arena.

Okay, NOW I wanna give this another shot.
