I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Just wondering if anyone was thinking of making speed runs for RPG's?

Like to see how fast someone could blow through Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Kingdom Hearts, or any of the Final Fantasies.
Thread title:
I'm addicted to games
I know someone who wants to do final fantasy 1 & 4 because they're not that long, only 4-5 hours she said.  But a lot of rpgs are 10+ or even 30+ hours.  I'm not sure there'd be any interest for anything that long ...

There was speed running in Might and Magic VI.
The goal was to complete the game in the less days (ingame days) possible.
I get 65 days (without using the super secret NWC level full of items)
I thing the record was less than 50.
Hell is where the heart is.
So how long in real time would that take?

I have no idea.
The fights are turn-based... the game is not really real-time.
To travel take 5 in-game days and only two seconds...
A fight can take 1 hours IRL and less then 1 day in the game.

Sorry, my english need improvements.
A speedrun has been done for Final Fantasy 1, but I couldn't watch it because it was done by a version of VirtuaNES that's not available anymore. It desynchronises after a while.

I have done a small part of a Final Fantasy 3 (NES, not SNES) run. I ran through the first levels quickly, getting to near-death (one of my characters even getting 1 HP) but managed to reach the first town pretty easily. I played until Sasoon castle, and didn't continue the run after that because of the lack of time and the fact that the emulator I used has very poor sound emulation (Famtasia).

However, it's not impossible. I just don't suggest Final Fantasy games and the linkes (side-view battle system) because of the tremendous amount of luck involved. It's best to stay with ABS systems such as Zelda.
keep your friends close but your enemies closer ;)
Chrono Trigger/Cross would be lame I guess because you could run through in let's say 10 minutes.

If you mean completing it without Game+ ... who would want to look at it? That'd be at least 8~12 hours long o.O
Emu vids aren't accepted.  If that FF1 one was advertised at Gamefaqs, that was on emu with save states also.

My 4:06 (with a bad waterfall) FF1 was not on the rom, but on my Wonderswan Color.

My FF4 hardtype (probably brought down to 6.5 hours) was on the Super Famicom cart, not a rom either.  Which isn't a bad time considering about 10 hours is a good time for players who know the game (and usually the easier US version on SNES).

They aren't videos, just practices.
Good Orator, Bad Speller
FF9 had a built in speedrun challange to get to one of the rooms near the end boss in under 8 hours, you got the Excalibur sword for Stiner if you could do it... I would be kinda interested in seeing that, allthough, damm, 8 hours would be a long ass video.
I believe it is less than 12 hours or 13 hours to get the Excalibur 2, not 8 hours.

And I'll be damned if I ever try that, cause I'm a klepto in games.

Steal, steal, steaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal.  Tongue
Getting the EX2 from FFIX isn't hard at all, but recording it and editing the clips so that it will the same time as what is said on the timer might. I have gotten EX2 before, but once I got it, I saved and stopped playing that save. I have also done 2 other challenges for FFIX as well.

If you were trying to do a Speed Run for FFIX, seriously, it wouldn't be very interesting. Plus the fact that you can skip all the CGs in the game, I don't really know if Radix would allow that, it's just something the player can do to limit time. The fastest time I ever heard anyone get EX2 was a little bit over 8 hours, and that didn't include beating the game.

Now a Speed Run for FFX-2 would be pretty nice. The game is pretty short, but it would need to be done not in New Game+ for it to be good.
