i was wondering about RE2. Why exactly we don't have a Tofu run? Wouldn't he be faster than hunk, due to taking more damage, and shooting less? Would they be two separate categories? Is it so hard nobody has done it?
I always make it around where the dogs try to scare you in the ally, then that third tofu comes up after them & attempts to pop your butt cherry x: But yeah, it was cool so see your name on the front page again. But nine minutes of improvements? Damn dude. Did that mostly come from rout planning, or execution?
&&Just saw Claire on the varifacation page & sent flip a pm. This oughta be good.
I'm not actually supposed to know about verification, for the record. You know it's supposed to be anonymous, right? Either way, I need verifiers for Claire A, so PM flip and sign up.
I wish, but there's nothing really special about my run compared to yours. It's more of the same, with a couple of cop-outs to save on health where I thought it would be too risky... It came out to 1:19:01, which although the run itself felt solid, was still WAY to slow according to the game timer. I thought I would at least get within two minutes of your run. I tried running my video against yours, and my loading times were like 1.5x longer. I feel as though it may be because the Japanese Dual Shock version has better sector reads on the disc. I ran the game on an SCPH-90001.
However, I also learned from watching the TAS of RE3 that on top of saving on load time, unequipping two-handed weapons made Jill run faster (roughly 2% according to the TAS notes). It also seems to be the case in Resident Evil 2 from what I observed when doing my Leon run (since I'm pretty sure RE3 derives from the RE2 engine), but I'll probably know more when I see the eventual TAS of RE2, since the guy is a little hard to get a hold of. I did that in several places throughout the run, but kept the Grenade Launcher equipped when escorting Sherry... Probably didn't actually need to, since the time saved on loading would have outweighed her keeping the pace, but I wasted a few zombies in the factory on the way anyway.
Been playing Claire B now. Just got 1:17:56, Kniferun's time is 1:17:12. My target time for submission is <1:17. That's on an SCPH-90001 without fast disc speed. I'm not entirely sure, but I think RE2-US may be faster at normal disc speed on a PS2 *_*
At any rate, I give up trying to find the optimal setting for load times.
I'm not entirely sure what's going on where I'm losing so much time. I should've hit 1:16 a long time ago since my movement is a lot cleaner than kniferun's. I'm using an optimized ammo route (ends with probably 2 Flame Rounds and one Rocket). If my health was optimized, maybe I'd be closer.
My current dilemma though is trying to figure out how to best dodge the Super Lickers in the room with the elevator power switch.
I pulled my Claire A run, since apparently unequipping the grenade launcher is a massive waste of time. I'm going to use the same route, but I'm gonna clean it up a little bit. Ugh. Talk about a setback.
I brought my Claire B down to 1:17:40 at normal disc speed, I'll try it again at fast disc speed. I bet I can get that aesthetically pleasing 1:16:xx now.
Leon B is going to be a nightmare according to preliminary testing.
1:16:54 Claire B. As far as I know, it's the world record. =D
Submitting.
EDIT: Also decided I'm actually going to go through with submitting the 1:19:01 Claire A. I saw the run again and decided that it actually wasn't that bad.
