Zelda Rules
i remember a level in a quake game where you are in a ship or somthing like it and the water level was always rising. you had to hit switches to stop it to get out.

Which level and quake(1 or 2) is it?
Thread title:
Mumma
I don't recognize the level by description, and it sounds more like something that would be doable in quake 2 rather than quake.

Oh Crumbs! Oh Crikey! Oh carrots!!
It's definitely not in Quake.

And it's not one of the normal levels in Quake II, but it could be one of the hidden levels - I've only played 2 of the QII hidden levels.

It could've been in one of the mod packs.

Hell is where the heart is.
water is static in Quake. Don't know about Q2. Definitely a custom level or a different game altogether. :-)

What kind of ship?
uhm. rising water can be fixed in quake 1 too, I've played a few maps like that. I actually vaguely remember playing a map like the one he describes. It was butt-ugly and crap, you know, one of those custom maps from 97.
I'm addicted to games
Shouldn't doubt Morfans... he's right. You can't move water in Quake. But it can be faked by moving the entire room you're in down.
same result innit? hence why I wrote "fixed". I suggest trawling the sunet.se archives, it's probably there among all those ooooold maps.
Defender of Truth, Justice, etc
There was a level that fits that description in Duke Nukem 3D (Episode 1, Level 4: Toxic Dump). You start in a control room in a submarine, and you have to swim to the bottom and press 2 of the 3 buttons to open the emergency hatch to get out. And graphically, DN3D had about the same quality of textures as Quake (though the color palettes were completely different).

*shrug*
Oh Crumbs! Oh Crikey! Oh carrots!!
Although Duke Nukem at that point was still a fake 3D Wink

Good suggestion though - completely forgot about D3D.
18 to the diablo2 holy grail
the closest I can think of is a level in the rogue mission pack of quake 2 (I think a secret level) where there is lava rising and you have to haul ass up a hill fighting enemies as you go, if you are slow you will be fried Smiley
