I was watching the Doom 2 Nightmare run and the episode runs for Doom 1, and I've just been wondering what program is used to play those runs. I mean, on my Doom games, the numbers at the bottom of the screen are always red, and there's no total time listed at the end of each level. Is there some Doom executable on the 'net I don't know about?

As per Compet-N rules, the demos were recorded using the original DOS executable that comes with the game, which is used as a standard.  Any demos recorded using source ports gets rejected from C-N.

To make the avis, however, I played them back using the opengl version of a source port called PrBoom:

http://prboom.sourceforge.net/

In addition to providing the opengl port, which allows me to record avis using FRAPS, this is one of the few source ports that will properly play back demos that were recorded with the original game executable.  As such, if you want to watch Compet-N demos in a modern OS and don't want to disable the sound so that the original executable will run, running it with this port would be the way to go.  The total timer seen at the intermission screen, as well as things like the different color numbers for health and ammo, are just additional things added by PrBoom.

Any further questions can be directed to me.

Speaking of Doom, my brother Sydney wants to attempt a "cheating" speedrun of both Doom and Doom2. Oh dear @_@;

It could be fun to see just how insanely fast it could be completed with IDDQD and IDKFA and IDCLIP.

Yes, I still remember the cheat codes... aah, the times...
MarioKart64.com biotch!
Doom II ahhh the memories. I got it pirated from the computer guy at my dad's company. It was on like seven floppy disks. *Shed's a tear*

Ah, but there's also a level warp code. I forget what it is, though.

If memory serves its "idclev 01, 02, 03, ect." In Doom I can't remember, but you have to add the episode and the level number in there. Currently he's still working on his diagnol running. Funny watching a 10 year old master things like this. He's getting an average 4 seconds for a lot of maps, 1 - 2 seconds for others. That's with idclip.

You are correct about the warp code.

For Doom1, it's "idclevEM" where E is the episode and M is the mission number.  So idclev28 would be e2m8.

Ah yes, that's the one. Been awhile since I've used the ol' cheat codes if you know what I mean Wink

But just for the convenience of anyone who wants to get back into the game or is just plain interested, here's a page containing all the cheats for Doom/Doom2: bleeh!

Note about the idbehold and iddt cheats. idbehold isn't permanent. It's just like picking up an item. iddt can only be used in the map toggle. And for some of those, not sure if they work in both Dooms. Such as idfa, idmus, but that's the page.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I kinda like Doomsday with all the new texture loading screens and music only not the 3d models.
