Hey Ho Let's Go
We've kept this project under wraps for quite some time, not really sure why though, so here you have it  Smiley

We've named the project "Quake done Quickest lite" to keep in line with the projects currently under development, such as "Quake done 100% Quickest" and "Quake done Quickest".

Wow, amazing demo Joe!

damm
I made this one earlier than the NR, however I was only working on the NR at that time, but I wanted to make sure that jump is possible with keeping the speed from only one GJ boost. It was Smiley

I was running a little and got this demo, it's faster than the one in the tables but I honestly can't remember if somebody else did 12 already or if it's useless because of e1m5.

Not my smoothest either.

Aya caramba! What a splendid demo! No-one did 12 before, but as you say, it might not fit well with e1m5. And what's this nonsense about the demo not being smooth? Pffft :-) Oh, and I like the decimals.
Nice demo Mandel, and of course I agree with Stubby regarding the smoothness.
But as Maximo wrote, the demo will not 'fit' with e1m5, or rather no time will be saved. Peters e1m4 trr-demo is 13 sec so Mandels time is one sec faster, but Peter got YA in return... With the YA from e1m4 one extra boost can be made in e1m5 (the last boost to exit) which means that e1m5 can be done in 13 sec. Without the YA the time on e1m5 will be 14 sec, losing the 1 sec earned on e1m4.

By the way, I know for sure that 2 runners have done e1m4 in 12 sec before. But those runners aren't well known for their smoothness, so if the route without YA will be used then Mandels demo is clearly the one to use... imo  Smiley

Why do I write this stuff when I'm drunk and on my way to bed... Maybe I'm addicted to Quake  Wink
Don't think!  feeeeeal
You guys should redo e3m4 and on to save a second with an extra rocket jump on e3m4, http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php/topic,9399.0.html

And is it a low FPS trick that was on e3m5 so stop right after coming out of the tunnels?  You should do that too saves like 3 seconds.
Hey Ho Let's Go
I don't think you realize how close to optimal and how hard those demos are to do? It's for a good reason that certain demos that "seem" improvable haven't been improved upon. We've been speedruning Quake since '96, and we've reached the limit on most ID maps. And besides, those few Quake speedrunners that would've been able to pull off those kind of demos - we're talking pure runs here, not 100% demos - have long gone retired, sadly enough. It's fairly easy to do those kind of demos with a low "host_framerate" setting, but as we've told you in another thread, that command changes the physics of the game on a pretty big scale, so it doesn't really reflect the true nature of recording with proper speed.

I know you're only trying to be helpful and come up with new ideas and such, but I'm afraid it's to no avail. The commitment and the talent to do those kind of demos just aren't there anymore. You're more than welcome to prove me wrong of course :-)
Any news there? Smiley
