Don't think!  feeeeeal
So there's a lot of good demos done already, it's been in the works since 2004 I think.  So correct me if wrong, but is every map finished? or do some not fit?  And how do you get maps to fit when the one after it is done?

So are Peter, Martin, Jozsef, and Mathias still active?

Only 2 things I see missing are the easy strat for e3m1, why can't you do that?  And the stop after wind tunnel trick done in qdqwav.

Does anyone even know how to do that trick, or proof that wasn't cheats?
Thread title:
Hey Ho Let's Go
The project is done, unless someone with the right amount of talent decides to take a stab at the maps which aren't optimal. The thing is - as I believe I've told you before - that all the top runners (for pure runs) have retired from Quake speedrunning. Mathias is still active to some degree though, but he's the only one left.

Demtool and other Quake utilities are used to chain demos together and whatnot.

Who said you can't do the easy route for e3m1? :-) It's perfectly do-able, just VERY hard, and it's not like anyone hasn't tried, quite a few have over the years. The same applies to the tunnel trick on e3m5, it can be done, and even without a script, it's all a matter of which angle you step out of the tube. There is a theory that slower computers can pull off this trick better.

So if it's done why isn't there a video release or anything?

Is the e3m1 trick harder on nightmare, or is it just as hard as easy and it's only been done on easy?

And I'm still confused how the levels are done out of order, I mean once you'd completed e4m3 and you want to go back to e4m2 don't you have end with the exact same health as you started on e4m3?

Also for e2m6 is there any reason why nightmare can't get 1:15 like easy?
Hey Ho Let's Go
As for the video, I guess it boils down to people not having the motivation to put together a pack...

For the trick to work on e3m1, you need for one of the grunts to shoot you in the back while you jump in order to maintain enough speed to land on the upper section. Monsters behave differently on easy and nightmare skill, so that comes into play as well. And there's more monsters blocking your way on nightmare skill too which doesn't exactly make the run any easier. It's do-able though.

A program named "demorelise" is used for fitting demos together. Let's use your example: If you've re-run e4m2 and e4m3 is done, then you'd want to use the statistics from the e4m2 demo and apply them to e4m3. This is where QdQ demos differ from SDA demos (they're all done from scratch).

As for e2m6, 1:15 should be do-able on nightmare too :-)

Well how is it to put together a pack?

53 seconds improvement over one of the (*EDIT* THE) most popular releases deserves to see the light of day!

That's a cool program btw, do you think something like that could be made for HL?
Thunderbolt Forever :)
The only demos which could be improved *theoretically* are

e1m4 (0:12?)
e2m5 (0:32?)
e2m6 (1:15?)
e3m1 (0:24?)
e3m2 (0:17?)
e4m7 (0:37?)

Others are pretty optimal.

What about e2m4, it was a .2 decimal, and is it just me or is that demo really choppy?
Thunderbolt Forever :)
Ask Peter Horvath Grin
I could capture all demos and append it together like just now, but don't expect any huge editing like a intro and stuff.

What about a simple title with music?
Alright I got all videos in episode done (640x480x72fps).

I guess I will just record a little guitar riff and use a quake wallpaper for like 15seconds then it will automatically start the video.

Sweet, this will be an offical release right?

No. That would require a pack release as well (demos + text file), and I don't even think all the demos have been demorelised either (to make the demos fit). And besides, AjAX isn't a QdQ/SDA(Quake) staffer, which is another requirement for an official release :-)

With that said, perhaps dex or someone else could fix the pack release, THEN AjAX could capture the whole thing. There's no point in releasing a video if the demos haven't been properly fixed.
it's only a sda-only video, i had no thought such as making the official one.

Isn't it pretty easy to do that?  Kind of a waste to have all these demos here but no video for them.

I agree, but it seems certain people are lacking motivation to get anything done.

It's less about motivation (there's not that much work on that, to be honest... it's tedious work, but there's not THAT much of it), and more the fact that I have the exams for university in 3 weeks. Seeing as I'm aiming for the hardest-to-qualify-for course at the best university in the vicinity of several hundred kilometres, I have a lot of work, and when I have free time I'm too tired to do the (tedious) work on the projects and prefer to chill out in what little free time I have :(. That basically holds for the last month or so.

The exams end on 21st May. Accounting for the fact I'll probably be drinking for the first time in over 3 months on 22nd ;), I'll get to SDA duties hard on 23rd.

Fair enough then :-) Good luck with the exams.

P.S. Qd100Qst has highest priority...
Invisible avatar
Yeah, I know. The Qd100Qst priority is paradoxically the reason QDQst is still unreleased - since we wanted that to be released first, and we wanted commentary for that and we couldn't (and still pretty much didn't) decide on the commentary... Wink
Quake Done Quickest Normal Quality (400x300 35fps)

I'm doing HQ now, it should be up in an hour or so, then it will be IQ.
I appreciate your efforts...but this won't do.
several demos still have grenade counters.
demos haven't been fixed statswise (i.e. armor picked up in e1m2 isn't there in e1m3 and so on).

leave it for the official team. I don't want to see a substandard version released before the official one.
No offense intended or anything, I know you put some time into it, but just leave it.
If you don't want to watch it fine, I don't care I do it for people like spider-waffle or others that would like to see the fastest achivement of quake yet, that's it.

Here's the HQ Version, I won't do IQ since it's sub-standard, but I think this will do anyway.

QDQ High Quality
640x480 at 50fps
look, it's not about if I want to watch it or not, it's the fact that the releases are supposed to uphold a certain standard, this doesn't cut it. if you only release it here, in this thread, well fine, I don't care - spiderwaffle and co can watch it, cool. but you if you post about it elsewhere....
Hey Ho Let's Go
Yeah, lolfu said it well. It just isn't up to standard, so you should keep this as a "forum release" only :-) It would be a shame to post it on YouTube and whatnot since it won't be treated with the official QdQ seal of approval. I'm sure dex (and others) will get up to speed (no pun intended) when his exams are overwith and done. I'm also sure that Spider-Waffle can wait a bit longer for a proper release ;-)
I give credits where it's due, I'm not the type to post someone work somewhere else. Don't worry.
