Just wanted to tell you that the link you posted for the video doesn't work, at least not for me.

How on earth is that possible?
I've just tried it in ie, firefox and chrome, it works for me in all browsers. Maybe try it in chrome Stubby?
safari doesn't work, but then safari hasn't got ftp built in which is a bit crap. (didn't seem like it anyway).
firefox on mac is stuck on connecting - so probably not firefox but it ain't working.
oh wait, now it did
If the browser wants to open the video by clicking on it, then use right click on the link and "save link as...". That should work.

Yeah, it works now, but it didn't earlier.

As for the video, I'm not so sure about the brightness, or should I refer to it as "the darkness? It all seems a bit too dark for me, but maybe that's just because I'm used to seeing everything in fullbright, even when I watch QdQ videos from a pak file. I find it hard to see all the action (i.e. you can't really see monsters from afar, etc etc.), and I can only assume it's even harder for people who hasn't run these levels a billion times like we have.

And the other thing is the flashing effects when the player takes damage, but that's probably just me being having an oldschool setup, I like to see everything crisp and clear.

But those are the only two minor things I would point out, and they're not even complaints, they're just observations :-) I'd be happy with whatever product you'd end up with. And funnily enough I don't even mind the Q3 feel it has, I think it gives the whole movie a 2010-ish and updated feel.

So yeah, splendid work as always Jozsef.
About the brightness, you're right. I've checked the QdQst movie on a few different computers and I experienced that the x264 codec raises the video's gamma level by a little which was really noticable and annoying compared to other Q3 and Quakeworld movies (I checked those as a reference). So I added a gamma/contrast filter onto the video before compressing to balance the gamma level a bit back. I also applied this filter onto this test video as well, however the whole game itself is a little darker with hi-resolution textures, and also this level is a little darker one so you're right Stubby, I will modify this for the final movie.

About the damageflash, well I wasn't for sure as well, however I made the QdQst movie with this turned on. Again, e4m7 is quite an exception since there are a few quadded boosts in it which _really_ paints the entire screen to red, resulting an almost blind effect... I will think about it a little more to decide what would be the best solution here (most likely just simply remove it).

Thanks for your remarks Stubby.

omg! wtf?
the rocket model/effect was straight from Quake3 if i'm not mistaken.. i don't mind it, but it looks a bit funny

great work.. will force everyone i know to watch it in HD@60fps now (gamers these days will prolly get motion sickness) Cheesy

Holy running shoes Joe! Well done!
what a nice xmas gift!
I'm downloading 60 fps version, on part 4 now! can hardly wait...
and then it turns out none of my hardware can actually play it. not my mac, not my tv's built-in player nor my ps3 - for very different reasons (tv can't handle files larger than 4 GB, slideshow on mac/ps3). bleh. will have to download 30 fps version after xmas Sad
Awesome! Any plans on making Pak releases for this and QDQst? I generally prefer those for their much smaller downloads.

Mathias I guess that's going to be your task Smiley
I really don't have time and also wouldn't like to do it Tongue

Svart Lyser Tronen
Great! Is there a chance to get it on torrent?

E: Also, I think Youtube allows videos longer than 15min now.

Yep, I'll be uploading them during next week (i.e. from tomorrow and onwards, hopefully). It'll take a while since all the videos are fairly big. I'm unsure as to which torrent site I should use though. I've had torrent files on mininova before, and it worked out alright, so I'll probably use that site again unless one of you guys can point me towards another (and better) site.

Jozsef: I still haven't had time to watch through the whole thing except for bits and pieces of the 720p_60fps version, but what I've seen so far is a treat for the eyes :-) I'll comment more when I've watched the whole thing.
wise fwom yo gwave
great job guys! the run is really awesome! I really appreciate all the work that went into it
Hey Ho Let's Go
While I wait for Joe to upload the highest res video and for myself to find a decent torrent site I can upload the videos to, I'll post some links for websites that have mentioned and contain user comments for the run. Feel free to add more if you find any.

He hasn't started uploading it yet as far as I know. Joe said he would be busy for most of January, so it'll take a while I suppose.
I've just finished uploading it yesterday, so it is now ready to download.

You can also find new mirrors of the other versions on the movie's mirror's page @ own-age.com.

nice, grabbing that, though it probably won't run well Tongue

If there's anything you'd like to see changed about the description/annotations for youtube upload just send me a pm on youtube/own-age or pop on irc.

Thanks a bunch Joe! I'm downloading it now, still 7 hours remaining...

After it's done I'll get to work on the torrents and the YouTube QuakeSpeedrunning channel.
Unfortunately, I think I overkilled the 60fps version by doubling the kbps :S
Probably it'll be fluid in a couple of years time, but not now I'm afraid. The amount of data for one second period is just way too much to be extracted from x264 compressed form, even of hi-end computers yet.

just finished dling/watching. SUPERBE !

i was also concerned how fluid it would be, but it turned out that i learned a few interesting things about my box.

one or two weeks ago i bought an amd 6 core (yeeeehaaaa) so i was very optimistic in the beginning. however video AND audio lagged like hell... Sad

changing the video renderer to overlay or haali is pure eye-cancer, so no option here. after tinkering here and there i made an interesting discovery. i have 2 nvidia 9500gt's installed (non SLI'd) and used the CUDA acceleration which i thought was the best option for performance. but now i know that's not the case. once i disabled CUDA (43 fps but laggy somehow) and let the processor (and i guess D3D) handle the rendering i got the full 60 fps with an absolute fluid video experience.

i also had some serious sound lags but could fix them by enabling direct sound (never used it never thought of it before).

with this setting the file plays totally smooth on EVR renderer with max settings.

i guess getting this video smooth with CUDA a much more powerful gfx is required.

i play this file through an 256bit aes enryption, so i guess if i would copy it to my ssd (not encrypted) and chose the overlay mixer there would be room for even 120 fps hd movies.

lets see what the future holds for us.

thank you for this run and this excellent encoding. this is the way quake runs are meant to be watched.
