I'd like to help, I just need to find the time to produce any proper demos, and besides, I have a hard time getting myself adjusted from Quake 1 style bunnying to Quake 2 style bunnying, I haven't quite got the hang of it yet.
I was thinking both a pure run through the game would be cool, as well as a 100% run (if it's do-able?).
I've started doing that, but the tool could use a prog that starts the timer down from zero when starting demo recording, and the restart command should actually restart demo recording...
I would like to record a demo or two for the 100% project. As I was doing my first playthrough couple of days ago I got some hang of the game probably due to my quake 1 experience. Weapons, air-control and monsters are a bit weird but not impossible to handle.
Previously I hated the game, maybe the monsters scared me there.
Too bad all the links are broken, but that doesn't come as a huge surprise given the date of that page.
Also, I know for a fact that Jozsef did some really fast Q2 runs at some point (can't remember if they were posted on SDA back in the days or not), but they seem to be lost. I'm pretty sure he did base1 in 10 seconds if my memory serves me well. He was lightning fast in Q1, and it seems he caried that speed over to Q2, so... if anyone can dig up those demos...
Nahkahiir, I am done with that project but if you want to a 100% run, fine by me. Stubgaard those runs on the page are slow and dated Check out the Quake 2 redone Quick thread on the PC Games forum and check out the runs o40 did, now those are good. I'm currently trying to do some runs myself, but I doubt I'll top his times. Also, If anyone else is interested in doing some runs PLEASE SUBMIT SOME DEMOS!!!!!!! I want this to a team-run. After, the first Q2dq2 was done by a bunch of people!
A new quake2 run would be fun. I'm interested, perhaps we should finally do a run on easy with bunnies. We started that project a long time ago, but since we only could improve the Hard runs with a second it felt like it wasnt worth it.
I know a Skill 2 run is in progress on the main forum, but if anyone would like to try an unrestricted bunnyhop Skill 0 run through Quake 2 then here are a few demos to whet the appetite....
I got all the way to Fact2 and the possibilities for tricks are good since there are quite a few quads around and self-damage isn't so severe on skill 0. Here are some samples:
