I heard about a Project IGI speedrun going on, have any attempted to speedrun IGI2 or am I the only one.

If there are any (hopefully), you can share your timesavers, glitches etc.
Thread title:
Ur-Quan. You're for dinner.
Whoo, it's been a while. I'll see if I can dig up my copy of the game if you need help planning, but good frickin' luck, death comes quickly in that game and the enemies have eyes like hawks.
Yes thats why its impossible to get a decent time on medium and hard mode settings. So i have decided to speed run on easy mode.

I have a few decent times already

Infiltration          3:06

This can be improved by a good 3-5s but its hard to get a decent run without being shot by the guards. Survival is not that easy.

Deep in the Mines 2:51

This run was alright, but I can improve it. The key to this level is that you should not let the guards set the alarm off, otherwise its 2x harder.

Weather Station         3:30

This run was perfect. But I was out of ammo and got stuck by the scientist. Lost about 4s I'd say.

Bridge Across Dnestr 3:49

Decent run. Can be improved though

Ambush                 1:25

This run was nice. Previous time was 1:27 but 2s cut.

Libyan Rendezvous 1:52

I found a good strat for this. First you meet the local person. You need to kill all the guards for him to survive. No need to follow him though. Get the explosives as quick as you can and set the charges. Then you have to go where priboi is, careful not to let the alarm go off.

Priboi's Villa          1:27

This run was fast.

The Airfield        4:01

Since you have to wait 3mins for objective 5, you have to complete that first then do rest of the objectives. Pretty straight forward, once you complete obj 5 you just have to survive and complete all the objectives and your done. 4:01 is pretty good and 4:00 is insanity.

Some things I have noticed

1. Its better to drop your primary weapon and use your silenced pistol weapon, for faster strafing

2. You can shoot a lock instead of pressing the action key (on the start of infiltration level)

Does strafe-jumping work like in IGI 1 ?
In Project IGI, you used strafe-jumping cause normal strafe was to slow.

Project IGI 2 is the exact opposite. Jumping is too slow. So you have to press W and D buttons or W and A to strafe.

IGI 2 also has an ingame timer which saves your most recent time and its pretty accurate.
Hi there,
I remember seeing this run for submission in verification topic, am I right ?
If so is there a way to watch it before SDA "release"  ?
Don't know if the run is finished but I found a big shortcut on mission 13 while playing the game, i think it could be useful, though, it would be better if we could have your times for every missions Milkyway.

I managed to finish it in 1m35s !
Here is a video :
Infiltration - Easy- 3:00

New strategy developed for strafing. basically u have to look down and ytou get less hits by the guards

i think sub 3 mintes is pretty hard to get. decent time
here is the video of 3L00 infiltration easy mode.

lookign for some feedback. thnx  Smiley Smiley
forgot to post link lol  Wink

due to lack of interest by others. i have decided to abandon this speedrun.
I am interested in that speedrun, I think this game has potential
Well with that way there I tried and I got 3:06. I thought run was solid it would be at least 3:00 but its slower.

by the time you reach the end of the bridge you have to unlock the gate, and you cant shoot it.

Wow i tried it again and its actually quicker. Nice time saver

2:58 and it wasn't my best run. Any more time savers perhaps? i better ask this before doing another run again.

edit : 2:56 and it was pretty good, i guess this level is done for now  Smiley Smiley

nice!

one thing that could save less than a second : when a door is opening (vertically) you can cross it earlier if you crawl (useful in that mission for the door you open before the elevator's building)
Hi there,
I saw that this game is up for verification, is it milkyway's run ?
Actually it is my run. But thanks atomicJo for the 13'th level information
New version of speedrun is ready. 53 minutes . Expect verifiers Smiley

I'm sure people won't mind if you link to one of them or your YT channel but generally this part of the forums should be about speedrunning.

Hi, I have seen IGI 2 Speedrun page and wanted to know whether IGI 2 support Individual Level Speedrun or not. I have seen Horned's run and they are full Speedrun and only segment information is there.

I want to confirm that does I.G.I 2 also support Individual Mission Speedrun submission like I.G.I 1 so that if I made improvement in any individual level I can submit it.

Waiting for your response🙂
Thanks in advance!!
Does I.G.I. 2 have some kind of menu for selecting whatever mission?

Yes, IGI 2 is similar to IGI 1. You can play any mission at anytime once you unlock all of them.
When you open the game and click on Play IGI, it shows the list of mission which you want to play.

Not sure if I correctly understood you.

It looks like the last run, sent in by horned, was mislabeled then. Is the starting state of each mission exactly the same every time? There is nothing that is affected by something that you've done in other missions? If there isn't, ILs should absolutely be the basic way to run that game.

Not always...
In mission 1, if I only keep my pistol and completes it then in second and third mission, I had to survive with the same pistol only unless I didn't pickup enemy's primary gun.
But if you play mission 4, player come from his helicopter so he had his both own guns again (no matter what you have in mission 3rd while completing but you get same weapon every time you start) given by the game automatically which had to be used again in both levels(4,5).

But it can be same everytime.....
Like if I want to do Speedrun of mission 2 and want to start with default game guns, I must have to complete first mission without throwing my default weapons in first mission, so that I can play my second mission with default guns but what's the reason of it when I am going to get some other guns automatically in mission 4 by default.

Also there is a method to unlock all missions in the game to play anyone of them with their default weapons.
At main menu if we press Ctrl+Shift+F9, all missions will get unlocked and if we directly start mission 3 which gives the wepaon in sequence from mission 1 and mission 2 will give default guns automatically as it will have no data of weapons from 1st and 2nd level.

So, I think there should be an option for Individual runs also.
So horned's run really is segmented? I.e. he played the game through continuously, not starting every mission with default weapons?

Someone said the game doesn't have a quick save option? Basically, we want to see segmented runs having lots of segments to implement as many unlikely or risky timesavers as possible. It's especially important if both segmented runs and ILs exist. After all, no-one wants to see two runs that are more or less the same. Even without a quick save option, it might not take that long to reach the save menu, right? With PC games, time for the current segment ends when that menu is reached. So if there are things that you could do to make the run faster overall even with some time lost due to going to that menu, those are things that also should be done. Perhaps the current segmented runs could be improved just by doing every mission (whenever it makes sense) in more than one segment.

Does anything other than weapons carry over between missions?

As far I think, he recorded every run seperately but keep the weapons in such a way that the full Speedrun sequence doesn't broke.
For example, he recorded first mission then stopped, then recorded best one in second mission, then recorded best one in third and so on to last mission and then combined all best of them. It means he didn't played the same level once recorded to keep the weapons same.
He recorded each mission and combined them in such a way that it looks like a full Speedrun. He himself wrote 19 segments in his full Speedrun form details, so I think he just combined every mission without breaking any sequence to conserve the full Speedrun rules.

Don't know what you mean by saying quick save option.
But the game has middle game save option, like if you've completed two objectives and don't want to take risk of dying while completing objective third. You can save immediately after completing second objective by IGI H.Q option (but this is available only for easy and medium difficulty).
Once you complete one mission, the second one opens to play and data automatically gets saved.

And as far I know the time of this game is started when the Runner gets the control of player and ends when the Mission Completed message appears at top left and cutscene came up.
No, if we repeat the missions in same way, it cannot be improved since he provided the timings according to which I told up.

No, there is nothing else that changes in missions except the weapons.
But yes in mission 6, we get three grenades in addition to the default weapons.
