it is well know for the speedrun community to have its fair share of failures and bad lucks. just when you thought you were getting gold splits to teh urn when the game decides you're not going to have it and screws you over big time ( *O'__'O). so I thought why not we share our painful experiences of failed runs.

here is my failed run for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 individual level runs. here I was doing fine at the start, some minor mistakes here and there. anyways I've been resetting this level many times and always been ended with cheap shots by AI sometimes or bad RNG moments. so finally I was doing great. I was feeling the rush and really excited at the end when all of a sudden this glitch screwed me over big time. basically all I had to do was wait for the missile to hit the target/boss and then cut to a scene where all the AI despawn, just a mere second would have saved the run if it weren't for the AI cheap shot at my C4 I just threw out.

O.O!!! Dayum! That was epic brutality!! I never would have expected that, but that's damn impressive from the AI... but DAYUM! I feel for you on that!!

Not a failed urn, necessarily (though the urn itself was bad) - but this moment may be the most epic RNG troll ever

A while back I was on a god run in Escape Goat 2 when my controller died in the middle of a level, costing me over 30 seconds with no chance to recover. I reloaded my save (the game autosaves upon entering each level) and finished the run to get a 13:42, which would have been WR by a huge margin at the time, and would still only be 3 seconds shy of the current WR. I highlighted the run for your enjoyment:

Shadow of the ninja (NES)

2 seconds ahead of WR, it came down to the final hit of the final boss...

HELLO!

I made this compilation awhile back:

I had to look up what the "Magic Wand" does, since I'm not familiar with Marble Madness.
Quote from A FAQ from Gamefaqs:
Name: Magic Wand
Appearance: A wand appears from nowhere.
Effect: It gives you ten extra seconds except on Race 5.
First level: It appears random.

Sounds useful for a speedrun.
Excellent!

According to the video, it looks like it stuns your movement for a short brief time which would mean you end up losing time in a speedrun.
Yeah, it appears completely at random and fucks your speedrun by 2.1 seconds.  It also kills you outright if it appears at the wrong time, as the video demonstrates.

I'm not surprised. Your driving was awful those days...
In regards to dannyb21892's incredibly unfortunate situation with OoT, how do technical errors fit into this topic?
Its kinda well known already, but i guess it never gets old and also it fits into that thread.

One time, when I was 2 minutes ahead of my PB on Katamari Forever, towards the end of the run, I failed a level, then I accidentally selected the wrong menu option on the next level. Luckily, though, it was at the point where the run was still unoptimized.

Classic 'rush through a menu' mistake. Keep mashing buttons to skip and accidentally launch something else entirely.
