Aye, get on AIM and we'll discuss it.

Digital capture card? Like capturing for a game for streams and junk? I don't know, maybe. I have a pretty steady supply of Verbatim DVD-Rs so I was just going to record my test runs with those and put them on youtube.

What's the link to your stream again?

Also, good to hear from you after all these months. I'm going to start my test run with Espy today, I'll post the segments as I'm done with them.

OK, ran some more early runs with Espeon, saved a Modest Nature.  All notes taken on a SS variety, will include segmented notes too:

1.  Espeon does indeed hit harder.  This will save time later.  Defensively, Jolteon and Espeon play the same game, types not withstanding.
2.  You MUST MUST MUST hit the Gauntlet within 3 sets or if you're segmenting it, segment after every battle.  It is too crucial not to hit this, and much more important to hit this than have a bad nature with Houndoom later (providing you don't get a defensive down nature with Houndoom).  My times have varied in practice from 0:38 (best) to 1:03 (worst).  3 runs gets you between 0:47 and 0:50, and my time on the rejected run was 0:43.  If you go over 3 times, reset period end of sentence.  You will not make up that time even with Espeon.  If you're segmenting it, you MUST get a call every battle, providing Teddiursa doesn't get a screw nature on it (still, a 1/25 chance, likely not going to hurt you).  Just kill Eagun, his Pikachu has a Light Ball I think and hits really hard.  I wouldn't suggest getting a call on him.  You can segment one fight or two after him no problem.
3.  Unless you're segmenting like every little part of the Cipher Lab, the Cologne Case cannot be used.  You need the money for extra Poke Balls and Potions to make sure you get through the Lab in one piece.  Sorry guys who posted on this earlier.

-James
The "gauntlet" refers to the 4 or so trainers before the purifying relic in Agate. The ones you have to fight before Eagun and you get the Cologne case.

James' help is really appreciated for my run. But it's also stuff that's manageable in my run since it'll be heavily segmented. The main thing is I have to make sure Teddiursa gets purified only by calls and no colognes, I desperately need that money for potions and poke balls like James said.

I'm really adamant on having my own practice run right now. I want to test out Espeon for myself. Since I'll have to fight every trainer who has a shadow pokemon, I'll get more money than someone who does an any%.

Still, the biggest thing is I have to figure out how much money I will make, and where and when to buy stuff, and also what to buy.
All right. Just got a Modest Eevee, saved and turned it off.

Essentially, right now I want to plan out my route on paper before I even attempt to test run this game. Using marriland's GameFAQs walkthrough on this game, he tells you exactly how much money you get for beating every trainer. Using that information, I can more easily plot out where and when I'm going to shop for stuff, as well as what to buy.

So as far as the route goes, I think I'm going to be posting a rough outline of how each segment will go, but keep in mind there will be a lot of segments since i'm segmenting every shadow pokemon fight.

The only real issue i have right now is the question of potions. I'm not sure when I would need them or when I would have to get them, but I'm guessing I'll need them for stuff like Cipher Key Lair and et cetera, however, there's no way to figure that out until I actually do the runs of those places, but I still think it's a good idea to have a rough route of this game planned out before hand.

I'll post completed test segments on youtube/dailymotion and post them here after I'm done with them. As far as the route goes, I'll also post that here when I have it all planned out.

Thank god Marriland's guide tells you exactly how much money each trainer gives you.

All Shadow Trainer fights apart from those at Gateon Port are forced.  So you won't gain much more cash in the long run over any%. Besides, save abuse can help cut down on the shopping you might need, since most of it will be potions.
Oh, that is true. For some reason i thought a few fights besides Gateon were optional.

Err, yeah. Save abuse for sake of shopping is the plan, i just need to figure out when/where to shop.

Not true. You have to also fight all six hexagon brothers in an 100% but not in an any %. Isn't that right Nightmare?
Personally, I'd say just wait on fighting the Hexagon Brothers until you get to Phenac City, except for Houndour and Gulpin.  The better catching balls go a great way for making catching easier, and you'll get more EXP at the time for fighting them in Phenac, plus an easy place to heal in town if you get busted.  Just my thought.

Feel free to disagree.

-James
My point was most aren't required at all in an any percent and that you get a little cash from those fights. (I can't remember if they give more cash the second time)

Yes, you get some cash, but you're wasting a whole bunch of time fighting them at that point.  Your attacks are not that strong and even in a standard SS run you should have enough after the gauntlet to buy 10 Pokeballs and 10-something Super Potions.

Only the Houndour (for you) and the Gulpin (as a major wall) are really the only must-have fights at this point, and if Yama is segmenting every ball, he's much better going at it in Phenac just for his own sanity's sakes.  Not only that, he has Power 60 and 75 Attacks at his disposal by that point.

My next test run will probably be Spheal-less, though IDK if that will hurt me later on in such a long run.

-James
I wasn't saying he should fight them all the first time, I was saying that he will get more money from fighting them AT ALL. You were misunderstanding my point.

Yes he will get more money, but he's also going to cost himself a ridiculous amount of unnecessary time if he does this, and he's not at a total shortage of money at that point if he's segmenting calls.  There are better places to get money and experience, like Duel Square and the Cipher Peons hanging around the ONBS station during that scenario.

I'd need to get particulars from PMIT regarding exact particulars, but I'd rather be teeing off on Dual Square trainers with better attacks if in a money pinch.

I can't say for sure since my run doesn't require me to fight them or all the Hexagon Bros.

Don't forget you get the Amulet Coin at an earlyish point (about 1/3 of the way through), and cash is not a rare thing. I don't think you'll have a lot to worry about in terms of what items you'll need to buy, 100% captures will need some balls, and there's plenty of cash to get all the balls you need and any potions you might need (including all the items you can get in boxes, and a few you might be able to abuse Pick Up for.

True, but I'd be more worried about the technical aspects of the run and the time it will take getting the segments right, like segmenting a crit and a catch every fight (especially early on) and getting 2 memory cards (so if Yama shows us a segment and it sucks he can redo it)  That'd just be my two cents on the situation so far.

I thought Leftovers was more important than the Amulet Coin in the long run, but it would be useful in the extra battles Yama has to take in obvious EXP/Cash places like Duel Square and some of the extra fights in ONBS if he can get it there in time.

Right, I have three questions that need answering. Desperate answering.

1] I was under the assumption you NEEDED to fight all 6 Hexagon Brothers at the Desert Lab to get the door open. I tried going there without having fought them, and it wouldn't open. Do I need to beat one or two first? In that case, I agree it's better to save them for Phenac when I have better Pokemon with me.

2] A lot more important than the cash issue is the issue of WHERE and WHEN (also what) I'm going to be shopping. Actually, this ties in with the cash issue. I'm still working on my route planning, and it's easy to pinpoint when I'll need poke balls, but not when I'm going to need potions.

3] Err, two memory cards? I can only save on one memory card, and my Wii won't let me transfer my save to another memory card. Is there a way to get my save onto two memory cards?
1. You only need to beat one.

2. Generally, it is best to get the potions when you are getting pokeballs.

3. Do the first segment on one memory card, then start up a segment, and switch memory cards, doing the next one on the second memory card.
1] That explains it. A walkthrough I was following said you have to beat them all. I'll probably just go after Houndour and MAYBE Gulpin.

2] Err, yeah, of course. I meant, how many potions to get. I guess, what else do I need to get besides potions and pokeballs so I'll just plan out the pokeballs and spend a good chunk of the rest on potions and possibly full heals.

3] Yeah, I tried doing something like that, but it told me I wasn't saving on the original memory card and I needed to put that one back in.

2. When and where is a lot different from how many. Tongue

3. Usually you can choose to save anyways, but IDK about XD.

Cash is probably going to be an issue. But I'm only going to need to buy as many poke balls as there are shadow pokemon. I think doing the entire run with just poke balls is...retarded...so i'll updgrade to great balls and ultra balls as necessary.

the majority of the rest of the cash should be used on potions, though since i'm segmenting fights, i'm going to make sure I get really damn lucky in them, so hopefully I'll end up buying more potions than I'll need to use.

And the saving issue is a real problem. It makes me limit myself to only one memory card, unless there's some loophole i'm not seeing that lets me use multiples.

N'ah, this is not the Wii

Just pull out another card and save where you're at in the same spot.  It works.

-James
Rarararara, I'm doing this run on the Wii right now. I don't have a working Gamecube at the moment.

Man, I'm gonna go buy a Gamecube now. At least they're cheap, 15 bucks.

In other news, I'm writing the route stuff right now, I started it yesterday but today I put some real work into it. When I'm done with the route I'll post it here.

All right, guys. This can probably be improved but after studying the game for a while I think this is probably the best route to go with in 100%. Feel free to make corrections/suggestions. Format should be obvious, I'll write which Segment it is followed by how much money I should have by the START of that segment, as well as how many Poke Balls I'll have. However, things can change as this is only the route on paper and might be different in practice.

Also, oh boy, money comes in droves in this game, with the Amulet coin. I need to buy a total of 5 PokeBalls, 16 Great Balls, and 44 Ultra Balls. I'm not sure if I could get all that without Amulet Coin, you probably have enough money to, but without amulet coin I won't have any money for Hyper Potions/Revives which I'll need for Greevil. The other thing is, I WILL need to go out of my way to get the ultra balls that this game gives you from chests. The game gives you 12 Ultra Balls in chests. Out of those 12, I won't be picking up 3 of them because you have to get into a forced fight to get them, but I'll definitely need to go out of my way to get the other 9 free Ultra Balls. If I do that, I'll DEFINITELY have enough money to buy the other ultra balls i need, as well as have enough money leftover for hyper potions/revives.

Assume all Shadow Pokemon are caught in one turn the instant the opponent sends them out, unless I say otherwise.

Yama's Pokemon XD 100% Route
[Segment 1] - $5000/0 Balls
-Get Modest Eevee, save. This is so I can manipulate a critical hit on Chobin's Sunkern.

[Segment 2] - $5000/0 Balls
-Get PDA, 3 Potions.
-Go to Kamaniko's, fight Chobin.
-Catch Shadow Teddiursa, save.

[Segment 3] - $5315/4 Balls
-Go to Gateon Port, Zook scene.
-Get Sun Shard, attach it to Eevee. Eevee starts with Max Happiness so it'll evolve once it gains a level.
-Get 3 PokeBalls next to Lighthouse, save in front of Casual Guy Cyle.

[Segment 4] - $5315/7 Balls
-Catch Ledyba.
-Climb Lighthouse, save in front of Klein.

[Segment 5] - $5645/6 Balls
-Catch Poochyena.
-Get Parts from Perr.
-Go to HQ Lab, then Agate. Get Poke Ball from chest since it's RIGHT THERE.
-Save in front of Gorps.

NOTE: I HAVE to segment the next 4 or so fights in order to manipulate Teddiursa getting into hyper mode, since I can't waste any money on scents.

[Segment 6] - $5975/6 Balls
-Get Teddiursa into Hyper Mode, Call it out.
-Beat Gorps, save in front of Jols.

[Segment 7] - $6215/6 Balls
-Hyper Mode, call.
-Beat Jols, save in front of Ladi

[Segment 8] - $7015/6 Balls
-Hyper Mode, call.
-Beat Ladi, save in front of Cron

[Segment 9] - $7271/6 Balls
-Hyper Mode, call.
-Beat Cron.
-Beat Eagun, hope Espeon doesn't get static'd.
-Purify Teddiursa.
-Go to Mt. Battle, get Full Heal from chest [It could come in handy later] heal if Espeon got static'd, and save.

NOTE: If by beating Cron Teddiursa's gauge isn't completely down, then segment the Eagun fight and get another call, otherwise just attach the Eagun fight onto Segment 9 and keep going. This route assumes by the time you beat Cron you have Teddiursa's gauge completely lowered. If, for some reason, Teddiursa's gauge STILL ISN'T LOWERED, I'm going to have to fight Gorps/Jols/Ladi/Cron and manipulate another call.

[Segment 10] - $8759/6 Balls
-Beat Miru, Cridel, Bardo, head to Agate.
-Buy 5 PokeBalls
-Save in front of Resix.

NOTE: Since I'm not fighting the other 'Six' brothers just yet, I need to segment the first two fights to manipulate calls for Houndour. However, after catching Houndour and confirming I got a good nature/IVs, I'll go ahead and save before Corla as planned. From there, I'll just do a quick runthrough of the lab without saving to see how much Houndour's gauge goes down by. That'll let me know if I have to manipulate any calls or not.

[Segment 11] - $7759/11 Balls
-Catch Houndour. I’ll quickly check Houndour’s stats here to determine what nature/IVs he probably has, thanks to the advice Petrie posted on the thread a while back
-Save before Corla.

[Segment 12] - $8439/10 Balls
-Manipulate Hyper Mode on Corla.
-Save before Javion.

THE END!!!
If Teddiusa's gauge isn't going down enough, it probably has a bad nature.
True enough, 4 battles should do the trick.
Let the music play!
I know you don't find out a Pokemon's nature until the second bar is uncovered, but you can make an educated guess by stat checking. Set yourself a minimum stat requirement for important snags, like Houndour, and try and stick to that as best as you can. Expect the soft-resetting on Pokemon you want to use for the run to take ages. I got lucky with Colosseum's first soft-resetting segment, since the Espeon was caught in 4 retries, but Croconaw took a lot longer, especially since I was only checking females for their stats (damn Venus)
