i'm not sure if this would be considered a old game or not but that doesnt really matter.

i think that a run for pokemon snap could be cool but i think the times would all be to close. if you can get enough points by only going through once all the times would be almost identical aside from seconds from things like counting pictures. mabye looking through the pictures and taking the best one would change the times but i doubt it.

one way to  try to put more space in the runs is make it 100% but still if someone can get every possible pokemon in one trip it wouldnt make much of a diffrence. i think one of the best ways would set a maximum or minimum point amount.

now for your opinions.....is there a spellcheck?
Thread title:
IIRC, you couldn't get every pokemon the first time through every level (except Mew's), because you had to come back with the items.

edit: oh, and I think this should be moved to newer consoles.

edit 2: one way to add skill is to make this a minimilist run, i.e. completing the game with the lowest score possible

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
yea but no matter how much skill, everyone would have to play the level agian so im not sure how much competition who come out of it. i think making a really high minimum points who make it fun to watch because only the best people who be able to even enter

can anyone think of a better way to incoprate skill?

The levels play at a set speed, right? I can't remember, played it so long ago.
This is not skills demos archive, so this game is not runnable.
For the most part, it is set at a certain speed.  Sometimes, you can influence the way the rate the game plays, but it doesn't happen too often.  I would have to give this game a no vote.

Sometimes I think these runs show more skill then speed. But mostly a combination of the two.

I think you have to re-enter some levels. For example, in Tunnel you have to blow up an electrode at the end of the level to uncover Volcano. But the first time you're there, you have nothing to hit him with. Oak gives you the apples after you've entered the level, so you have to enter it again. Or something. And you get the the turbo engine for the 01, like, after River I thnk.. all the way at the end of the game! Boo.

Not a speed runnable game. But if you want to compete for points, there's Snap charts at Cyberscore.com with some really good scores.
A Sinister Figure, Cowled Like A Monk...
ok thanks i was just wondering if this was a good game to run

What about a 100% speedrun?  Since the game pretty straightforwardly mandates revisits, one could demonstrate the quickest method/route for snapping all of the pokemon; in this manner, the runner could portion all immediately-accessible pokemon in the first run through, and nab the other creatures once all of his items have been gathered.

[BTW, a 100% would prohibit amateurs from duplicating the run, as not every Pokemon can be found without some proper planning and execution, whereas an Any% run would only invlove a body sitting through the rail procession of the vehicle to its end for whatever fixed duration]

Granted, I acknowledge that the run might be subject to the tolerance/interest levels of the general populace, and so it might not be worth an attempt, but I think proper consideration at least is due.

I'd probably watch it. I never got the chance to see everything in that game.

Killer Chobocos don't get any chocolate.
I don't remember very well (I actually have this game)... but I think you can 'abort' some levels once you reach a certain point and it still counts... I don't remeber though... 'cuz I forgot

...memories are for young people...

Or maybe you just expend your entire roll...

YES: I remember

The trigger for getting Dr. Oak to give you the items is your PhotoDex (i made that word up... or did I?)... or getting a certain number of Points (psh... forgot again)

Fundamentally... the fewest possible levels is

Level 1
Level 2 (twice)
Level 3
Level 4 (twice)
Level 5
Level 6 (twice)

Now... thats assuming I remember anything correctly at all...

ummm.... This game is actually very runable... the level can end once you ABORT or when you run out of film... if you just make sure you get your Quota score/PhotoDex you can get to MEW much faster... and if you go for 100%... optimizing when to restart could be quite a chore...

EDIT: Wow... now I'm inspired... you must do it now or I'll have to (another game on hold)
Yeah!  I personally think this game would be very runnable; 100% of the pokemon would be my personal favorite run to watch.

Once you have the dashing ability, I think frantically trying to get a pic of a hard-to-find or hard-to-evolve pokemon without slowing down would be very entertaining.

Yup... just make sure you narrowly reach your PhotoDex/Points quota to get through the levels with the bare minimum... so you can rush through at the end once you are looking for the signs

One thing you should check out is the certain pokemon pictures at the right angle that give you a phenominal score. Last time I checked a pidgey picture in the beginning of the first level gives you a rediculous amount if you get it right.
SEGA Junkie
Don't you have to go through each level again for the Signs?

That's 16 run-throughs total... I wouldn't be too impressed.

Though just tossing up another idea... you could use Quit Course when you've achieved the right number of Pokemon to quickly end the level.

>Last time I checked a pidgey picture in the beginning of the first level gives you a rediculous amount if you get it right.

Around 5500 for the triple pidgey, but can't you just take a normal boring pidgey photo? Turning around and waiting for the pidgeys to fly past you loses several seconds.

This game has only one trick, really, that you can slow down the vehicle to almost stationary by playing with the camera. This can buy you lots of time (great if you're going for a high-score in the level and need to wait for a pkmn), but since you'll be rushing, I can't say that it'll be useful.
It's unfortunate you get Dash so late in the game.

Also, I've heard rumour there'll be a Snap for DS... has anyone heard anything on that? I wouldn't mind having a new snap with much more pokemon and environments... surprisingly addictive FPS.

I was going to post a Level/item TECH tree here based on points/photos... but there aren't any quality FAQS at GF and I'm going to have to make one now.

BTW: I'm gonna do a slow PAR time run of the game, just to check the requirements and speed potentials (but I'm not going to record it)

For example... some of the levels you actually move a bit faster if you face the correct direction, combined with the fact pokemon could appear at any angle makes route planning possible now
Zelda Scientist®
You could make it so that for 100% ALL Photos... that would take skills. I mean, getting EVERY pose (replacing of course) for every pokemon. Every possible pose + special picture.
This is a longshot, I don't know SDA's standards that well.

Is it possible a run could be accepted where you start the run on an already-established save file, so you'd have the dash from the start, and you (maybe) wouldn't have to reenter levels?

Nope, it wouldn't be a complete run of the game.
Then I'm glad I didn't try to do my single-segment run that way.  I'm lucky.
Killer Chobocos don't get any chocolate.
Here is the Level Tech tree

Level 2: 6 Pokemon
Apple: 24000 Points
Level 4: 22 Pokemon
Pester: 72500 Points
Level 6: 40 Pokemon
PokeFlute: 130000 Points
Level 7: 6 Pokemon signs
GAME: 1 photo of Mew making 63 pokemon

Since this is a rail game I doubt anything less than 100% would have a chance to be accepted... but since there are a lot of menus to navigate this could get interesting...

Missed the Dash item.

I completely forget what the prerequisite for it is, though, so I can't comment at any rate.

The Dash is automatically awarded to you when taking the alternate path through Level 6... as you can see, I also left out activating Level 3 and Level 5 since they require in level tricks

Well there you go. It has been too long.

Glad that got cleared up.
