(Just in case SDA cares about spoilers, I am going to put a massive SPOILER WARNING right here.)

Hello, readers! I am The Lord of Dome, and I (try to) speedrun PMD: Sky, for the nintendo DS. For those who aren't familiar with the game, I'll give a short introduction.

This game is probably the most RNG-heavy game ever, and I wish I was exaggerating. The game consists of Mystery Dungeons, with any number of floors. The dungeons in the run range from 4 floors to 20 floors. To navigate b/t floors, you find stairs leading up or down, depending on the dungeon. The main problem isn't crits, good IVs, or min/max rolls like other pokemon games. It is the floor generation. Each floor of every dungeon (Bar a few, but none of those are in the type of run I am doing) is generated completely randomly. You may spawn one tile next to the stairs, or you may explore every room in the floor before you find them. Deaths are extremely costly, as you lose 50-75% of your items and you start back at the beginning. In the latter half of the game, there is a very small chance that a room is a "Monster House" where around 15 pokemon surround you and usually kill you. It is a very hard game to run. But I still love it.

Anyway, on to the main point of this topic. I am looking to meet up with other runners of this game, as I don't actually know any myself. Currently, I am doing runs in small segments, but not like a segmented run. I'll play for 2 hours, pause the timer, and come back later that day. Or something like that. I hope that by getting used to the game, I could become more patient and hopefully finish a run in 2 sittings instead of 4. My current run is paused at 52:41, and is right after beating drowzee. Died at 6F on mt. bristle, nearly gave up the run.

tl;dr: I am hoping to meet up with other PMD: Sky speedrunners. I doubt that there are many, as sky is a very hard game to run. Anyway, that's all I really have to say, I'll post updates on my current run when I finish my next session.

Also, is this in the right section? I don't know if the DS is considered an "Older console", seems pretty recent to me.

UPDATE the 1st: I don't know the rules about double posting, so I'll just edit the OP instead. I paused my timer after the second session, at 3:01:22. I am literally standing in front of groudon. I don't know the standards for Sky speedrunning, and I haven't set my own standards yet, so I don't know if this run is really good or not. I'll finish it regardless, just because I need a time to beat. Will probably update later tonight. I think the next session will be from groudon to crystal cave.

In case you couldn't tell, I am cutting the run off after Dialga. Post-ending is stupid-hard to do underleveled. Darkrai is nigh-impossible to beat without excessive grinding, even on casual playthroughs. Can't even discharge spam because rhyperior has lightningrod. I have no wish to make a 20hour+ run, so I am just doing pre-ending.

UPDATE  the 2nd: Paused at 4:40:38. Just beat mespirit, paused during the cutscene where magnezone says that "MESPIRIT IS SAFE BZZT" or something like that. Quicksand pit can do die in a hole for all I care. It has only 10 floors, but I had no oran berries or reviver seeds, and none are found inside the dungeon or the 2 previous ones. There are 3 problem 'mons in Quicksand Pit.
Hippopotas: Only makes the weather sandy. Easy to kill.
Sandslash: Has sand veil. Need I say more?
Skorupi: Resists Riolu's STAB 4x. I picked up a rock slide TM and gave it to riolu, but it still only does 50 damage, and skorupi has around 85 HP. He also resists treecko's STAB absorb (lol) 4x, so it is a pain to take out.
It took me a total of 6 deaths before I got through it. Mespirit was no problem whatsoever. Only used one sleep seed before mespirit stupidly used rest. Bite+Absorb spam took it out quickly. I would normally give up the run at this point, but I need a time for my splits. I also had an absolutely perfect amp plains, spawned inside the room with the stairs in 8 floors, and got 3 crits in a row on manectric.  May update more later, I need a break after that brutal Quicksand Pit.

UPDATE the 3rd: Got to crystal crossing, paused at 5:04:29. Not much to say. Only got through Crystal Cave this session, but I need to sleep.
EDIT: Might as well elaborate a bit. Got had an unfortunate death on 2F of crystal cave, but a quick reset saved my items. It may seem like a waste of time, saving before each dungeon, but it has saved my items many times. Overall, it has probably saved more time than it costs. Rest was pretty easy. Saved right in front of the crystals. Next session will be Crystal Crossing to... maybe chasm cave? I don't know. I'll stop playing when I feel like it.
Thread title:
If there is a double post rule, I'll just edit it.

UPDATE the 4th: Paused at 6:02:05, just after the spiritomb battle. I got the best item in the game for a riolu/treecko combo during sealed ruin; A focus punch TM. Dialga is 2-shotted, for reference. After a violent seed, it is OHKO'd. It does 999 damage after a violent seed to dialga, around 500 otherwise. I used one of my 3 violent seeds on the spiritomb fight, OHKO'd it with Focus punch. Also, unlike in the main games, if you are hit during the focus punch charge-up time, the attack still goes through. Chasm cave and dark hill were easy, just a lot of holding B. I wish there was a way to skip cutscenes in this game, it would save a couple of hours. :|

Hey there, Pokemon speedrunners generally don't frequent SDA as often as they do Pokemon Speedruns. If you're interested in seeing if there's more discussion to be had over there, check it out: http://forums.pokemonspeedruns.com/viewforum.php?f=53

(edit) It's also never a bad idea to keep the SDA thread up to date. You never know when people will stumble by here who haven't heard of PSR, and making more information available is never a bad idea! Smiley
Thanks, Vulajin! I reposted this thread bar your post onto PSR, maybe there will be more people there. Thanks again for the suggestion! Smiley
Thanks again vulajin for introducing me to PSR.
I will still be updating this thread, though, for any PokeRunners that use SDA. I don't know why, to be honest. Even if PSR is more popular for this type of game, I'd rather meet as many people as possible.
(This is copy/pasted from PSR)

UPDATE the 5th (Second to last, hopefully): I paused at 7:51:34, during the emotional cutscene after beating dusknoir after hidden (high)land. Wish I had time to experience the feels, but gotta go fast. Hopefully the next update will be vs. Dialga. I'll decide on postgame stuffs after that. Also, I don't even have splits for postgame, and livesplit doesn't allow you to edit splits mid-run... so yea. Probably not happening. Anyway, dusknoir was easy. Stun seeded the boss, and focus punched the minions one by one. Got giga drain TM for treecko, better than mega drain, I guess. I only lost one reviver seed in that fight. I have 11 left to use on temporal tower, and I will need every one of them. I used to think as a (younger) kid playing this game that you had to be level 45 or higher to beat temporal tower without insane luck or ovar9000 reviver seeds. I am currently level 30, partner is 29. We get 2HKO'd by pretty much every normal enemy. Roar of time from Dialga will probably OHKO both, so I have to save at least 5/6 reviver seeds for that.

EDIT: Nearly forgot about the fossils. Beat them in 3 turns. Walked toward them turn 1. Force palm crit OHKO'd omastar and mega drain OHKO'd other omastar turn 2. Force palm+mega drain crit takes out kabutops.

If anyone out there runs this game seriously, can you tell me how my first run is going? What can I do to improve my future runs?
UPDATE THE LAST: (Vs. Dialga) As it is my last update, I'll make it kinda long. As I do more runs, I'll just post final times and things I did terribly/great, great/bad luck, etc. Only highlights. This is a one-time thing, this thread (shouldn't) become super long. Tongue

THE ACTUAL UPDATE: I forgot that temporal tower is one of the few exceptions to PMD's "random floor generation". The other exception pre-ending is Chasm cave. The floors aren't actually set, but each floor tends to have 4 or less rooms in it. In chasm cave, all 8 floors are actually all the same, but the stairs are in a different room each floor. Temporal tower was easy. Spire was only hard b/c of salamance. I got an energy ball TM at temporal spire, better than pound. Got to dialga with 3(!) reviver seeds remaining. Stunned dialga, used a violent seed on both riolu and treecko. Ended stun by throwing a vile seed at dialga. It Dragon claws, OHKOing treecko. Wasted violent seed. 2 reviver seeds left. I stun it again. Charge up focus punch, get a crit (!!!) doing 999 damage and OHKOing the final boss. Final time: 8:17:25.09, over the course of I think 3 days.

I think I wasted about 30 seconds during the dialga fight. I played aforementioned segment at 1:30 in the morning, and I wasn't really thinking about speedrunning. I was 1/4 asleep, had SGDQ replays on in the background, and running. I completely forgot about the run once I heard the Primal Dialga's battle theme. Wasted 30 seconds doing a dance in my head, too tired to do a real one.

Anyway, I had a ton of fun doing these segments. At least I have a time for splits. I really like the starter choice of riolu/treecko. It works nearly perfectly. Treecko is very reliable early-game, as rock/water types abound. He is great against nearly every boss in the game. Dialga is the only one off the top of my head that resists grass (Koffing/zubat don't count, they die to blast seeds. Grovyle doesn't count, you suicide against him anyway.) The only problem with it is that treecko kinda relies on TMs for decent moves, such as rock slide and energy ball. But it is quite easy to get those anyway. I picked up over 3 pages of TMs in this run, in hopes of getting focus punch or a better move for treecko. The only thing it gets on level up is mega drain, and even that comes at I think level 27, which is about brine cave-ish in a speedrun.
Got a time of 8:00:35. Not much to say. Had a better quicksand pit, but died once at crystal crossing and twice at dusknoir. Overall goal is sub-7 before maybe picking up a new game? I don't know.
