It's been so long since anything has been posted here. How is the run going DoubleThink. When am I going to be able to see the Crystal run, it has been way longer than a few weeks.
There's a word for that
Seg 18 is DONE, and I will have many unfriendly things to say about it when the run gets posted. I might even post a blooper so y'all can see how terrible the bike is to control. Hopefully Ice Path will not hate me the way Olivine City does Sad If I can manage Ice Path well, I might even be able to make up the extra segment I'm adding in by extending the following one(s); this will further depend on how co-operative Clair's Gym is. Some time might be "lost" in the next segment, but this will be because I'm not going to forget to get the Radio Card this time >_>

Once again, I'm sorry this is taking so long. The next segments should/will be easier, so hopefully I can at least get close to the E4 by the end of August.
It bugged me so much in a perfect segment that I forgot to press change the button I was pressing in a segment when getting the radio card and had to start all over again because I wasn't thinking during that part, only on how good my segment was, because I didn't get poisoned, had a good rival battle and other battles, but messed up on getting the radio card. Pretty good time you have going DoubleThink. I was at the pokemon center in 1:43 by then after the segment where I messed up getting the radio card, so you are about 6 minutes ahead, it is good you told me what point at the game you were this time, because I was wondering where you save. Good to know I was not much off your time, I just stopped that run because the radio card thing was so upsetting and I didn't want to submit a segmented run with that kind of mistake in it.

Just watched mike89's SS Crystal run from the Internet Archives.

Watching the final battle alone makes it a very impressive SS Pokémon run, it couldn't get any more luckier than that.

I never played Crystal (only Silver) and I was suprised that there wasn't any major changes from the opponent's teams and the 'extras' in the main quest was very minimal compared to Emerald.

Hoping that HeartGold and SoulSilver will be speed-running friendly.
There wouldn't be a Ice punch TM but an Ice Beam TM (very likely to be in the Casino for 4000 coins). Although Totodile does know Ice Fang (65 BP, 95%) and Crunch (80BP, 100%) by level up.

You must've been looking pretty closely to find it, I skipped right over it a couple of times before I knew where to look!

If you're similarly impatient, it's here. And yeah, the ending was just ridiculous - came completely out of nowhere. To be honest, while I had a plan for if the best case didn't occur, I'm not sure how well I would have executed it at 3:30 in the morning...

DoubleThink: Still expecting...

Mike89 - I'm blown away.
Pokemon Crystal in one segment, under 4 hours. At 3 in the morning!? Epic. Especially since it seems as though the changes in Crystal hardly make it any quicker than G/S.
I really should watch it if my Internet allows it.

Also, the gold run is looking real good DoubleThink. (only just started watching it).
A couple of months ago i was considering redoing my 4:04 Gold time (it had several thousand mistakes) to send into SDA, but I don't think I'll bother now  :-P.
Good luck with Ice Path!

Wut, I haven't posted any of it, anywhere. Stop living in my DVD Recorder Angry

Thank you for the support anyways.

That's really weird...

Anyways, I'll definitely be watching this when it's finished.

Haha, I realised myself that I'd made a mistake after seeing that your commentary didn't match up with the clips.

Turns out I was watching BrownBomber's one. I really should pay attention to what I'm watching >_>

Thanks a lot Mike89. I looked all over for it and couldn't find it anywhere when I google searched. I am going to watch it now. Smiley
I actually only searched for it a month ago, about two weeks after you said it will be out in the next few weeks, and couldn't find it. I should have tried again.
Never give up!
Well.  Was unexpected to have my original thoughts brought up in the comments for the new run of Pokemon Crystal.  (Don't worry, I consider the "I showed you!!!" kind of attitude an occasional necessity here.)

I'll have to wait until this weekend or somesuch to watch it, but I can honestly say I'm looking forward to then.

.....and yes, I know this is days after the run was actually posted - I haven't been checking SDA as diligently as I used to.

I considered it an equal necessity to do my history homework Wink

There's a couple of things I missed in the comments, too:
* One of my friends commented how bizarre it was that I got stuck in a TM. That should read Ice Path, not Ice Punch (though it's quite possible most of you read it as Ice Path anyway cause that's what you were expecting),
* If the music seems to jump around a bit after Chuck, it does - that's when I took my first disc switch. I was vaguely hopeful that Nate might see this and fix the music up by cutting out some of the pause, but I then realised I should've mentioned it first, and I completely forgot about it at the time.
* I actually had to speedrun the switch because the timer keeps counting on the pause screen! The second switch didn't have to be optimised, and thank goodness - that disc played up and would've cost me 2-3 minutes while I looked for the next in line. The second disc switch was on the title screen after the E4, so no time was lost.

And then, let's see... overall, what was I distinctly unhappy with:
* The Repel mistake on Route 40/41 (lol, two random fights, ~20 seconds)
* Jasmine's Steelix (4 turns - a minute or so?)
* Ice Path (4 seconds, but it -looks- bad)
* Will? (2 more turns than necessary, but I'd probably have lost them on Blue later)
* Nugget Bridge (30-40 seconds)

I mean, for argument's sake, if I don't get the perfect Red fight I could lose all that time in one hit anyway. I might actually stop complaining about this run now. :O

DoubleThink - as I write, currently working on a segmented run that'll be about 20 minutes faster than this...

More like 35 Sad
I haven't watched the run in detail yet but yeah the Red battle was pretty sweet going after all that.

I'm still wondering how that happened... >_>

I haven't had the chance to watch much of the run (a few minutes, tops), but I can say, without a doubt, that the best part from what I've seen so far is you naming your Totodile "n".
Mike I believe I am quite within my right to give you a faec. >:O!!!

You wait till I run something with a terrible character and name him yse <_<
Just thought id put it out there my record for crystal is 3:30 exactly im gonna do another run soon, once i get my sub 2:00 sapphire run completed  Tongue
Back in the game!

UltimateDarius - went out of his way to help me out despite the game not strictly being his area of expertise... though I will take the opportunity to pimp out his Fire Red runs

I don't want to make a topic of the remakes of these games yet until the game is out in English (US, Euro, Aus).

From watching some of the early gym battles they look a bit harder than the original when speed running. But the gym leader battle theme sounds way better and more dramatic than the DPPt Gym leader theme.
Spoiler tag for obvious reasons.

This post is for the GSC speed runners and viewers to see what you think about the remakes.

The first gym has been buffed,
* Pidgey level 9
* Pidgeotto level 13 (possilbly knows Roost)
TM 51: Roost

The second gym has been buffed on the offensive side

* Scyther is now a lead at level 17 and knows U-Turn & Quick Attack, if Scyther's ability is Technican watch out!!
* Metapod Level 15
* Kakuna Level 15
TM: 89 U turn (stronger than Fury Cutter from GSC)

The third gym has been nerfed slightly but the abilities makes the battle easier or harder depending on the user's moves.

* Clefairy @ Level 17 knows Mimic or Copycat, level 15 & if her ability is Cute Charm, use non-contact moves to avoid attraction, or have a Female Pokémon.
* Miltank @ Level 19 knows Stomp and possibly Rollout. If her ability is Thick Fat, then Cyndaquil players are screwed badly this time.
TM 45: Attact (the same from GSC)
I got a rom of the new game trying to test it out, but it seems to freeze every 10 minutes or so. Any clue why that might be?

Probably anti-piracy protection.  It's been showing up in all of the newer big-name titles.\

Edit: I saw this fix at GBATemp.  Might wanna try it.

Or you can try the patch at Romulation.net -> http://www.romulation.net/files/pokemon_gold_silver_patch.rar
Complete. Global. Saturation.

Trying to process the sound coming from the 27 different musical instruments in every song is causing it to crash. See if there's an update somewhere.

Oh wow, there's a patch already? It's been leaked for what, 36 hours?

By the way, Rollout is a rock type attack that gets more powerful with each consecutive use, so Cyndaquil is definitely screwed, especially if Miltank does have thick fat.

In b4 UltimateDarius thinks of a way around this.

Maybe Rock Smash? In HG/SS do you get it before Whitney?

Oh, and how do you use that patch? It's all Japanese, so I don't know.

Well I mean, cynda had to deal with rollout in the originals, so now it would just have more problems with thick fat.  However, one could save before the whitney fight and luck manipulate metronome into helping in some way.  We'll see.

Also, I doubt Rock Smash will come in earlier (unless for slow poke well), but if so, then that should work. Way too early to think about that though.
