I've got the game again, and it should be better to watch and more fun to speed run, as I seem to be crit evil.
This game, AFAIK has no E4 Sweeping Uber, so this run will be harder, and people say that the Champ is easier. I found him harder, I probably use to many waters.
I found Pelipper to be a great Pokemon in this game, but as usual, starters are the key.

Also, would the run end at Steven or Wallace?

no E4 sweeping uber?!  Hello...Rayquaza.  It's even a good 25 levels higher for more E4 sweeping goodness.

You get Rayquaza before E4? Never knew that. Hence the AFAIK Tongue

I'm just owning Flannery's Gym now, it's very easy really.

IIRC, the game forces you to catch/ battle Rayquaza either right before or right after (I want to say right before) the 8th gym battle.

You might want to bring some ethers/ confusion curing berrys along though, because unless you want to wait on fly, youll be relying on extremespeed and outrage to sweep with Rayquaza.

The Surf HM works wonders with Ray, and Overheat is there as an option.

I'm going to face Norman now, gonna test the likelyhood of stuff like YAWN...

You don't have to catch rayquaza.  the fight to get him would be virtually pointless to be quite honest.

The game ends @ Wallace because that is where the credits role.

In my opinion that is.

My line up for the completion is as follows :

Sceptile - (good to beat first gym)
Sableye - (good for 2nd gym easy to find and train)
Magcargo - (Nice Fire type does mass damage easy to find)
Manectric - (strong Electric user easy to find)
Walrein - (Good ice / water combo easy to find)
Flygon - (Easy to find a Trapinch and a nice Dragon / Earth combo)

Of course you'll have to evolve them and stuff, but this line up worked wonders for my fastest completion.  The poke's are just things you'll run into them pretty easily with almost no searching.

I'm probably not the fastest (i'll have to go home and find my time) but it's worked well.

If your wondering why i started with Treecko it is just to blitz the 1st half of the game.  Not to mention a large variety of poke's ingame are weak against a grass type (Whiscash of wallaces can be a bitch with out a good grass)

Although I haven't played Emerald (I've played the other 3rd generation games though) I think the best option would be to storm through the game with your starter and only catch other pokemon to act as HM slaves. If Rayquaza is a mandatory battle, then masterball -> Uber sweep the E4.

Nope, he's not mandatory, but he could be very useful, shouldn't take take too long, and will REALLY help against Drake.
I thought there was a topic on this game already.

Old topic

Also, you're not forced to battle Rayquaza, but you are forced to go to the Sky Pillar; you would just have to fly back to the town nearby then go back up the Sky Pillar again to catch it, which wouldn't take very long.

And you should solo the entire game with the starter until you get Rayquaza (unless you choose not to).

I think starting would Mudkip would be best.

First Gym: Water vs. Rock, you figure it out
Second Gym: No real disadvantage here
Third Gym: Ground immunity
Fourth Gym: Water beats virtually everything there
Fifth Gym: No real disadvantage
Sixth Gym: If you can get him an Ice move he'll ace this
Seventh Gym: Water is a major advantage against the Leaders
Eighth Gym: The only Gym he has a significant disadvantage at

Then Rayquaza can beat the Elite Four.

Ive always thought Mudkip would be the best starter for an Emerald run.

However, Ive heard a convincing argument for Torchic too.  you can find it if you go digging through the old Ruby thread I believe.

Youll be hard pressed to beat Drake w/o Rayquaza.  The time spent to pick him up is worth it I say.

Torchic has an advantage, though, due to its fighting type.

Ice Beam takes too long to get; you can get Rollout from a move tutor instead though.

You'll have Rayquaza by this point anyway.

Also Mudkip > Torchic IMO. >_>

That's what I was thinking. Rayquaza can take over from there.
dont know if this has been mentioned before but lombre is an excellent hm slave, can learn everything bar cut and fly and is fairly easy to catch (route 114). also a pokemon with helping hand (eg. plusle/minun) may be useful in double battles, particularly the seventh gym
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Swampert should easily win the seventh Gym Leader battle anyway. Backing him up with Ludicolo (can you get him without trading?) would make it easy.

If you go with Mudkip, he should have Surf/Strength/Waterfall/Dive by the end of the game anyway. (and Cut isn't necessary for a run)

They'd probably die in one hit.
i realise that swampert can learn all those moves too, but of you start with one of the others or just want other moves for swampert its an option

and fyi halfmil ludicolo = lombre + water stone

as for plusle/minun tho the would almost definitely die in one hit thats not entirely relevant as helping hand takes its turn first, if it was based on speed of pokemon itd be entirely redundant (as opposed to just mostly Wink )

Would anybody be interisted in a pokemon Emerald 386 run i know it won't be SDA bc it is emu but i'm just seeing if anybody would watch a 100% run of this.
Handsome Squidward is handsome.
The problem with a 100% run is that I'm very sure you can't catch everything in Emerald.  I may be mistaken, because I've never played it, but I really doubt you could.  Then the speed run would basically be how quickly you could trade pokemon in from your other games.  Maybe a 100% speed run of all the catchable pokemon in Emerald could work.

I could do that but the game is called 386 you would think they would have all pokemon in it wouldn't you.But non the less i'm going to try for this run

Wait, would this 386 run be catching all 386 pokemon or just getting all 386 into your Pokedex?

Catching of course i will do a test run first then do the real thing
Handsome Squidward is handsome.
But you can't catch all 386 in one run-through.  How do you plan on getting all the starters?
