Hello everyone,

I will try to speedrun Pokemon Colosseum any% in future.

A few months ago I tried a run and got a 5:23:19 time. My Espeon had 84 Sp. Att. and 65 Init., pretty perfect for Lvl 25. I don't really remember the stats of Croconaw/Feraligatr but the Sp. Att. was really high.
My fights were decent to good. At the end I was really suprised that I played 5 hours and I'm not even come close to the World Record.
After I made a few time test's (with my PAL and the former WR by Zewing) from beginning to snatch Croconaw, the time difference was 2-3 min ~
I didn't think that the difference is so great but it makes sense after all why I had a 5 hours run.
The NTSC Version is much faster than PAL.

Monday I get my Capture Card and I will make a "Test/Practice run" and record it.

Soooo now I come to my questions Cheesy

1. Should I continue speedrun the PAL version?
2. Can I play with my Europe Wii the NTSC Version of Pokemon Colosseum?

I hope you understand me because english isn't my first language Smiley

Greetings Aworax

Running a game on PAL or NTSC isn't something anyone can really force, it's whatever you wish.  Just keep note that NTSC regions are at least more competitive.

Also, if that time of 5:23:19 is on PAL, that would resemble a 4:29:xx on an NTSC console, but it's really a crude reference time.

To answer your questions:

1. I recommend running on NTSC or PAL60 if possible, otherwise use whatever you are comfortable with.  Take note, however, that there may be version differences between PAL and the NTSC version.  We have already confirmed that at least one aspect of PAL Gale of Darkness makes the run slower in PAL, but Colosseum hasn't been tested for version differences as much.

2. Soft Modding a Nintendo Wii to be region free is something that SDA has deemed acceptable for SDA submissions (I'm 99% certain this is accurate), which also translates to the speedrun community as a whole.  Therefore, there is no issue with you playing the NTSC version of Colosseum on a European Wii.

BTW, unless someone else has a better PAL time than you, you can be considered the PAL record holder.  So...congrats!
First of all, thanks zewing for your reply.

For the beginning I have to use the PAL Version, I have no other choice.
I thought so but I don't care. My goal is to beat my time and get a good run Smiley

I've been thinking to run Gale of Darkness also but only my friend have this game (PAL). If I buy it then the NTSC version, right?

Ah yes you need the "AnyRegion Changer", I forgot.

I have another question

Are there any rules what language you need to play? I play with german text because the english text confused me after 10 minutes of playing ._. (don't ask why)

This depends.  If you use the current optimal route, then running it on PAL would be slower due to needing an extra level to evolve teddiursa to Ursaring.  Otherwise, you should run it on whatever version you want.

For the last question, play in whatever language you want.  The pokemon community doesn't allow people to submit non-english runs of pokemon to their leaderboards, but they've been making a lot of changes to their site, in which languages in non-english may be allowed to be submitted.

So, if you want to use german text, then that shouldn't be an issue since RPG speedruns are text based runs.  If you can't understand what's going on, the fun is kinda taken out.
Alright, thanks.

I thought to use Quilava/Typhlosion as second starter but I figured out many problems.

First the good stuff
Quilava/Typhlosion have better  Sp. Att and Init than Croconaw/Feraligatr
On LVL 30 Quilava can reach 68 Sp. Att and 62 Init with 31 DV, modest nature.

Bad stuff
In Gen. 3 Quilava/Typhlosion have such a bad moveset. Best attacks for the run:
Flame Wheel
Fire Blast
Protect

Maybe Earthquake but with that Att. it wouldn't OHKO/2HKO any Pokemon after the laboratory
But thats it. No attack that can hit two Pokemon (except Earthquake)

Pyrite Cave. - Purification Quilava
There are to many Water Pokemon that can OHKO/2HKO Quilava
Miror B.'s Ludicolo's will OHKO Quilava after Rain Dance, thats for sure

Mt. Battle - Dakim

Many Earth type Pokemon. Feraligatr could OHKO most of them, Typhlosion not.
Dakim is very dangerous because of the Earthquake/Protect combination. You could play Relect with Espeon which is not optimal because of the turn you waste and Typhlosion could OHKO though.

What do you guys think?

We're still under the impression that Quilava could still get the fastest time, but it would require much more rng as it would have to be a +sp.atk nature and good sp.atk IV's, as well as risky Blaze strats.  For now, though, Feraligatr is still the optimal partner, though I've been looking at a lot of different pokemon and seeing if hey could somehow make the run faster.

Feraligatr can get a sub 4:10 IGT on NTSC-U, so I recommend using him.

Good news. I beat my PB.
Real time 4 hours 41 minutes, game time 4 hours 44 minutes.

I'll upload it as soon as possible.

Edit: I have no idea how I get the 5 hour time. But I wrote down the time then...

Double Post :/

It's a me Aworax Cheesy

I uploaded my run on Youtube.

Please note that this is my first run after a few months. But I'm still satisfied.
There a many mistakes after the Saturn fight.

Espeon was only 46 in the Laboratory after the rare candys. This was really bad because I couldn't OHKO Electrode.
In the laboratory, I think, I get the DNA Glitch (I call him so). I have no idea what happend but the DNA Sample don't appears. After I read some german forums, I'm probably not the only one this has happend.
I was really confused and have disoriented.
After Gonzap I forgot Feraligatr teach Earthquake. I realize it after the first fight.
Nascour was terrible. Gardevoir was the starter...the worst starter ever.
Evice wasn't even better. Salamence and Slowking starter. I was happy that I could beat him at the end ._.

Btw: I can't upload the run on the Submission Form. After 5 minutes, the website loses the connection.

hmm, the DNA samples are randomly placed at specific points in the place.  You only need 2 of them, but there are 3 total.  I'll watch the run and provide some notes about it if you want, but I think you understand the game enough to get a 4:41 on pal, which is quite a good time.

My fault. The DNA Samples were eveytime on the same places where I always watch. It's new for me that they have other places. After I watched on Bulbedia I know where are the other places.
Yeah 2 for safety, I know. In my next run, if the DNA Samples are not on the place I'm loocking for, I try it again without a DNA Sample.

Evice was trolling me :/
I'll upload it as soon as possible

Here it is

great improvement!  I haven't really had motivation to watch these runs fully, but one thing for certain is that times in this game can vary a ton due to rng.  I could finish a run to my best abiliies, but only manage to get a high 4:2x rta time.  I hope to see you continue to push this!
Thanks!
Sure, my goal is sub 4:30. But I think the best time you can get on PAL is 4:20 with a good rng.

I've started yesterday a run (I failed in the laboratory) and noticed something about the Miror B. fight.

You don't have to use the X-Special on Espeon first turn.
You can't even OHKO a Ludicolo with a X-Special Confusion, so why waste a turn?
Because of that I safed like two minutes on that fight.
The only thing you should do is defeat first the low LVL Ludicolo (28 and 29) because of their ability Swift Swim.

Flopping Lunky since 2015.
Hey guys, HaosEdgee here!
I am looking to get myself into Colosseum runs as well and I was wondering - what stats do I want on Espeon/Croconaw? What fights tend to be very hard, even with good IV's/nature? How do I know what nature my Croconaw has, so that I can tell it will be ready for purification in Agate Village?
Why is it that PAL is slower than NTSC? I thought that was only with NES/SNES games the case.

I know, alot of questions, but I sadly couldn't find any notes or other resources out there, nor have the runs that I watched sofar commentary. So yea - pretty much left in the dark here.

Thanks for reading guys! =)
