My vote goes for AGDQ2.

Is there a gym around the 4-H Center?

I found this on Google: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&q=gyms+in+Chevy+Chase,+MD&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1280&bih=627&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

It's about a mile from the 4H center and would only take a few minutes to walk there.

Pretty much the best way is to go down to Bradley Lane (a stoplight), go to Wisconsin Avenue (first stoplight you'd see) and you're pretty much in the mall district.  I've never been in that gym or such, so I can't say how good/bad it is.

(Parking exists under the CVS Pharmacy right at the corner of Bradley Lane and Wisconsin Avenue, if you drive.  Depending on how long you workout, they may validate your ticket and thus you have to pay nothing.  I know the CVS does that, since I did that once when I was there for AGDQ.

Yeah, hopefully I can go. Fortunately, the marathon is next year so I have ample time to plan/prepare for it.

I do what I can to help.  I may not always have all the answers, but I do what I can.

I don't work out, actually. My idea of working out is button mashing and walking to the fridge. Tongue
(No, I'm not a fatty, as I'm sure everybody from AGDQ can attest.  I'm very far from it.)
Novice Speedrunner
As I've stated, I'm planning to be at this one. Depending on my driving skills at the time (my learners permit just arrived in the mail), I'll either be driving down from upstate New York, or flying.

The games I can offer so far are:
Easy Mode Megaman Legends (about 50 minutes, both because I love the game and because Megaman Legends 3 is coming to 3DS in the near future and I'd like to drum up attention sort of)
Pokemon Snap VC 100% (about 28 minutes or so, slightly more if donations want a selection of three certain special pictures that can then be sent via Wii Message Board/e-mail to them).

I had considered Super Mario 64, but my 16 star run keeps clocking at 30 minutes, and that's assuming I get the bunny glitch right constantly, which doesn't happen, so that's out. And my Link to the Past 100% is way too long. So I may or may not have more games to offer in the near future - it depends on what I practice. But MML1 and PKMN:Snap are confirmed for me. And as far as I know right now, I'd be able to stay for the full marathon (college wouldn't restart until the 25th of January) - I want to see as much as possible live, having watched it online the last few years.

As a side note - has there been any comment yet from the Final Fantasy players on another game? I know that CGDQ had FFVI, and AGDQ had FFIV finishing us off, and it's sort of becoming a trend to finish off with the prelude and THE END and all. I remember seeing various comments about FFs in the chat again and again - the general consensus seemed to be that FFI was not live speedrun material, but FFVII or FFX could be done (VII had some length complaints, but somebody suggested doing the first half at the start of the marathon and the last half at the end, which seems sound enough).

If FFVII were to be done, IN THEORY I could assist a certain amount if it were done relay style to avoid runners getting tired - I've replayed the Midgar-through-Kalm sections so many times I could probably do it in my sleep.

Bummer, was hoping maybe we wouldn't do January again for selfish reasons. I'm going to be a 99% unlikely, in that case. I'm getting married January 1st, and at that point I'll be more or less the poorest I've ever been. Also we'll still have family in town etc. Sorry Sad Sad

I'm glad/excited to see all the interest, though! As much as I wanted to be a part of this, I'm still proud that we're growing at the rate that we are.

@Mike, I'll be available to help in any way possible as far as planning goes, just let me know.
@Flip: damn, and I was hoping for a 4-P tales of symphonia run!

Also, declaring my intentions to come.  I'm graduating in december, so my life is a little in flux, but I'll do what I can to make it happen.

RE: Gym: In addition to the gym right near there, the 4H Center itself has cardio equipment according to their website.

Oh no, now who's gonna donate when we make on site donations? I can't trust my cold hard cash to anyone else!

Seriously though, congratulations. I wish you well.

Lame, Flip.  Since getting married at MAGFest has been done, you should get married AT THE MARATHON.  Hey, while we're at it, let's let Lag.com and MercuryZelda get married too.  DOUBLE WEDDING ON CAMERA OH HELL YEAH.  That would be interesting. Smiley

Honestly, a Quake race between Lag and Radix would be totally awesome. After seeing Lag run it on his stream, though, I'm satisfied with the game being showcased at all.

unfortunately i was just never good at straight running quake... I usually did 100%s. So, I can say with confidence that Lag would win.

I was actually thinking of Mass Effect for 360.

All the better.  Then we don't have to have a real minister/justice of the peace.  We can do it however we want.  Consider it a 2nd marriage?
Waiting hurts my soul...
Just keep the same name: AGDQ; that way next year you don't have to think about following it up with a new name. Could be confusing, but most everything important will be stamped with the year anyway.

I'm not making it either (strangely for the same reason as Flip), but I'll see what I can do about donating for prizes again. Maybe I'll actually get to go next year.

For those thinking about saving up to pay for the trip in January, keep in mind that full payment to 4-H is needed a month in advance if I remember correctly, and plane tickets cost more closer to the fly date.

Keeping the same charity is definitely an option, but I also like the idea of choosing a different one each time. It doesn't hurt to look around a bit and find out if there are any other charities that allow direct donations via paypal. If nothing pans out, then go with PCF.

Good luck!
