Assuming theres interest generated, I have a few speedruns in mind, namely:

Single Segment runs of both 1 lap and 3 lap modes of Sega Rally's Championship mode.

Segmented run of Panzer Dragoon Saga (IE, each disc being a segment).

Segmented run of Dark Saviour (IE, each parallel being a segment)

Possibly a few others also, I have 6 weeks of nothingness ahead so I need something to do.

Im also considering a 100% speedrun of Sonic R, when I get Gems Collection (Im aware theres a forum for the newer consoles but I cant see it hurting to tag that on the end of this post >_>)

Any thoughts?

I SO CALL DIBS ON VERIFYING THIS.

I don't own a Saturn myself, but I have borrowed one a few times - and Dark Savior is, together with NiGHTS, BY FAR one of the absolute best games to the console. I'd LOVE to see a speedrun. I'll be glad to help out with any advice I can give, as far as I remember. If you really can take each parallel in one segment, that would be amazing... especially silver castle is a place for major fuckups. Are you going to use the points glitch?

Any ideas on what enemies will be worth to capture?
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
Sorry to go off topic here, but:

1) Saturn games qualify for the New Games section (So you can create any future Saturn games in that section).

2) November 2005, had I won that eBay auction, I would've produced a speedrun of NiGHTS. I still want to do one. But that's not happening until after the 3 speedruns I have planned after Crash 3.

hehe, Dark Saviour is one of my all-time-favorite games *huggles his Saturn*

Er, that aside, moving on <_<

Ill be doing each parallel as a segment, yes, which'll be pretty hard to say the least (Im looking at you, parellel's 2, 3 and 4.)

Ive never heard of this point glitch, exactly what is it?

As for monsters, Ill likely just capture everything possible, I dont _think_ it'd waste any time, and the monsters tend to get much stronger than Garian anyway.

As for the Silver Castle point, I remember it being fiendishly hard, but then I also remember being prety consistent at it, either way, it'll just look awesome if I can do the entire parallel (and game) with no deaths/terrible mistakes. Any advice would be much appreciated, I only loosely recall Parallel 3, and bits of 4, I remember 1 and 2 pretty exactly, and 5's nothing to remember, heh, so Ill obviously need a practice run through first X)

Oh, as for the wrong forum thing, I figured the Saturn'd be consider "older" as it 'died' in '98 <_<

Points glitch: Spend your points until you have less than 20 left. Ask Jack to heal you, which, as you know, costs 20 points. However, here's where the glitch kicks in: You get the healing anyway, and you get more points than you will ever need.

(yep, exactly the same as the infinite metals glitch in MMX8)
Waffles~
Ah yes I remember now, but a different way to do it that was longer and more complicated, nyeh, Ill probably not do the glitch, Ill manage fine without...

Oh, I recorded one of the Sega Rally runs earlier, the 3 lap one. Needless to say, I shocked myself with my finishing time, shattering my target, which Ill possibly reveal later Shocked

PS: yes I remembered to record it X)

I just remembered the part that's even worse than Silver Castle: the mine cart ride.

Good luck - you'll need it...
Waffles~
Funny you should mention that; I never had any problems with the mine cart ride after I remembered the jumps :X

PDS will be interesting, there's a lot to remember as it'll only be 4 segments, so I basically have to memorise each disc and then play from memory.....should be fun X)
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Dark savior rocks, it would be really cool if you could complete the run. And a segment per parallel sounds impressive. Cheesy
Waffles~
I had a test run (without recording) earlier of Parallel 1, and other than I screwed up a lot I didnt do too badly playing from memory. I didnt actually finish the parallel though, I eventually got killed in the Mining Site, by the boulder you have guide to the bottom....silly camera >_>

And as I hadn't healed at all on the Field area's up to that point (nor saved <_<) it was like BAM. Title Screen. Also I think Im going to spend the majority of my BP (at the start atleast) on skipping the battle with the Terrible Trio.

Thoughts?
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
Here is a thread with more Saturn run suggestions if you need them. Smiley I'm sure there's a lot nobody listed there like Burning Rangers or whatever.

I bet that's totally unnecessary, kinda like preordering a X360 in Japan. Tongue

I haven't played Dark Savior myself, but I'd like to. First I need to play Landstalker though. Then maybe I could read this without thinking Darkstalkers: Vampire Savior. :-/
Waffles~
Cheers for the link, I did actually consider speedrunning Shining Force III but I have no idea how long it'd turn out, probably a good deal over 10 hours Sad

As for NiGHTS, I suck really badly at NiGHTS >_>

I guess I could do Burning Rangers, too, I love that game, but how would it be timed, as theres no on screen timer? (This is also the probem with my planned Sonic R 100% run)

Also Im gonna have another crack at Dark Saviour Parallel 1 today :O (As in right now)

Just like every other run of games with no ingame timers on this site: Manual timing from gaining control of character until losing control in the end.

Waffles~
Aha, thanks, I most certainly CAN do those then Smiley

EDIT: Just had ANOTHER crack at Parallel 1.

Result: Dead 53 minutes in (Going by the tape).

The problem is, Im spending my BP to skip battles wherever I can (And those I cant skip I capture for the extra 50 BP) so my margin for error is VERY small, I cant afford (quite literally) to fall off the levels anywhere.

*sigh* Ill have another go later
Waffles~
Had a superb run going last night.

Everything up to the Lavian Ruins was near flawless. Then I made a horrendous amount of mistakes in the Ruins, and finally scrapped the run when I spent 3 minutes running around UnderGround City in aimless circles because I couldnt remember how to progress the story -_-

Having another crack at it once I take a shower (So like 15 minutes X) )

so just out of curiousity, how many of you dark savior fans played landstalker?  because everything i've read from landstalker fans complained about how bad ds was...

still wanna play it though.  still wish i had a saturn.
New Guy
I'm definitely looking forward to a Dark Savior run.  It's one of my favorite games on any system, not just on Saturn.

And I've played Landstalker and thought DS was a million times better. Wink
Waffles~
Ive never played Landstalker, I probably should sometime X)

Also, 5 more failed attempts last night, I didnt even get as far as the Mining Site, kept making dumb errors :X

I also found a VEREY nice strategy for M-Bilan....the problem being it doesn't work all the time and I havent figured out what Triggers it yet so that could completely destroy the segment if it doesnt work

Gah.

Worsts come to worst, Im doing each parallel in segments, its far too frustrating, #1's the easiest (Disregarding #5) and ive yet to make it past UnderGround City on any run thus far :X

Parallel 1

Segment 1: Start-Torture Area
Segment 2: Torture Area-JLO Base
Segment 3: JLO Base-Lavian Ruins Entrance
Segment 4: Lavian Ruins Entrance-UnderGround City (Pre Bilan murdering everyone)
Segment 5: UnderGround City (Pre Bilan murdering everyone)-Silver Castle
Segment 6: Final battles with Bilan and M-Bilan.

That should make this a bit more doable >_>
Just new...
Panzer Dragoon Series: I got a question.  How exactly does one speedrun a rail shooter?  Or are you just trying to speedrun the bosses, not the levels?

Sega Rally: This one ought to be interesting.  Lord knows we need more racing game speed runs.

Panzer Dragoon Saga's an RPG ;P

One of the Sega Rally runs is already done, Im gonna hax it off the tape using my Dads MP4 thingy later and Ill upload it somewhere.

There's a Panzer Dragoon Orta boss run on archive.org I think.
Sorry, a 100% sonic R run is impossible.  Radix ruled that you could only do things by stage long ago when i submitted my ss 100%.
Waffles~
Psch, I can still DO a Sonic R run, just radix will be dumb and not accept it >_>

Also no advance on the DS run, I havent even got to the Torture Chamber on any runs yet :X
While we're talking about Saturn speed runs, I would do anything to see a Solar Eclipse speed run  Grin
