Congrats on the run, I know I wasn't there to give support in the middle of the run. I didn't post much because the route and the execution were stellar and I had nothing to add. Overall it was a great run and a fun experience that I am grateful I was a part of. The support I saw on every segment was astounding and I just wish that I would of posted more. You must feel so accomplished about completing this, and as one guy in the comments said "That's five and a half hours of my life I don't want back." and I couldn't agree more. Floogal did an amazing job with the planning of the any% and you did a job just as good with the 100%. I can't tell you how many times that I have read the first couple of pages of this board waiting for the run to be completed and you didn't lose interest. You perservered and for that I thank you Raiker, and I give you my sincerest apology for not being there in the middle of the run.

All I am trying to say is GREAT JOBthumbsup Raiker, I am pretty sure that Paper Mario fans on this site are grateful for the 110% effort you gave throughout this entire run. And as I said before I thankyou for that.

P.S. I still love that Pic.
Just wanted to congratulate you on a job well done.  I've been lurking a bit, following your progress in chunks, but I've been too busy to do any planning or even keep up.

Kudos to you for actually earning coins from the Jump Attack game several times.  That kind of luck manipulation is why I didn't have the motivation to even try planning a segmented 100% (it's too much of a timesaver to ignore, but too tedious to ask someone to do).
hey hey hey!!
hahaha, yet he still did it. hearing that music at the end almost made me a little teary eyed! it left me nostalgiac to when i had first posted in this topic and how young i was. now it's finally finished and it is just unbelievable it finally got done. congratulations raiker, you have finished the one run i have dreamed about since i first got involved with speeddemosarchive! thank you!
Qwerty - Thanks, I just hope it gets posted, I sent Mike an email, and he told me to post a video test because all my segments are in WMV and he said that could be an issue. I have yet to hear back from him about it although the only person to comment said WMV don't get accepted. We will have to see, I personally needed to format them for space issues, the run is huge, and my hard drive might not fit the entire run if I hadn't started doing that. (Needless to say my backup computer, which saved me twice, wouldn't have at all).

Floogal - iirc Noisecrash said you helped him with route planning, and I used his route (with some changes) for mine, so you helped out this run a lot. Jump attack was pretty bad, but the change to virtualdub saved me (quite literally) hours in resets. They might be killer for resets, but compared to some enemy dodging they were a nice break.

Pyro - It was loads of fun, if I knew it would come out 5:32 I may have been a little more strict with some of my mistakes, I'm sure I could've shaved off 3 minutes here or there.

I guess all that's left is waiting to see if there is any reply. If the run isn't accepted because of the file type that sucks, I see no problem with a/v quality based on it being WMV, nor has anyone commented (except in the first 4) about any issues there. I still did a PM 100% speedrun whether it is accepted here or not, and now there is a very detailed guide on youtube for anyone who wants to attempt PM 100% Wink
1-Up!
Ballofsnow is a Tech Support mod, so you can assume what he says is correct. This is why we tell people to submit quality tests before recording.

From the Submissions page:
Quote:
If you prefer to encode your run yourself, ensure that your run meets our audio/video quality standards by posting a brief sample in the Tech Support forum before you finish your run.

From the FAQ:
Quote:
If you wish, you can also try to encode your run by yourself. Please read the Knowledge Base for detailed instructions on how to do it. You should be prepared to post a one-minute quality test file in the Tech Support forum before processing the entire run.
ow
If the .wmv thing gets this rejected, we should at least find somewhere to host the files for download (not including manually downloading each one off of youtube)

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I don't think anything should get this one rejected.  Especially considering this 100% run is only 1 hour and 54 minutes longer than the published Any% run, if I did my math right.
I don't think that's the issue. The issue is whether or not the wmv format is acceptable for publication or not.
hey hey hey!!
any news?
No news from Mike on quality, so its probably rejected pre verification. I'm not going to argue for it because for all I know .wmv files can get corrupted or something during dl's. The one on archive.org didn't look bad when I downloaded it on my other computer, but it is SDA's choice. It really makes no difference to me if its rejected, I still made the run I do hope someone else tries this now that there is at least a decent route already made. I'd be glad to help anyone who wants to.

I'm not an official techie for the site or anything, but I think the video standards are in place for other reasons than to just make them look good. One of the main goals is to ensure the most compatibility possible, not only for PC's and QuickTime but video-capable gaming consoles (PS3/360), iPod, etc. Also things like having LQ/MQ/HQ downloads available allows people to select a download appropriate to their bandwith and all that. Did you send Mike a PM? If not it would probably be a good idea (since I don't think he would go through and read every post in every thread), and if you did it could be he just hasn't gotten back to you yet because he's busy.

If it does turn out to be rejected, one thing you could do is ask for first-post ownership in this topic and post a link to a YouTube playlist with the run in it, your planning notes, etc. or I could if for some reason you didn't feel like it. I'm glad you wouldn't be too upset if this is the case, because even if it doesn't get posted on the site it's a monumental step towards that goal and you deserve many congratulations for it.
THIS RUN CONTAINS SECRET WORLDS

Seconded.

Also, does anyone have any ideas whether a 100% SS is feasible at this point? The biggest differences, I imagine, would entail a much longer portion of time spent on getting Quizmo's star pieces and gathering money for Rowf's badges (perhaps an RTA subcategory could be suitable specifically for the purpose of manipulating the Jump Attack game and Quizmo's appearances?). I would love to see an SS done under 7 hours, but I fear that it might not necessarily be a good idea for a subcategory, since the last stretch before Ch. 8 could be boring as hell to watch (not to mention patience-eroding for the runner). Even so, I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks of this idea.
I was thinking of practicing this game this summer, and doing an SS 100% or any% run would be a cool challenge and would definitely be cool to see as others have said. Obviously any% would be less enduring for the runner as 100% would be extremely long and making a big mistake in the middle of the run at maybe the 3 hour mark can discourage people. In the end I probably won't be as good compared to Raiker Z here or the other main runners of this game but I'll give it a shot Tongue As NoiseCrash said though, even if Raiker's run gets rejected, he deserves a lot of credit for completing that run. Wink

Just curious though, if N64 games are played on the Wii, do they still allow the runs? (Not sure if there is a policy on this one) My recording set up can only do the Wii so I'd rather know ahead of time before I play XD
I'd be happy to, would i go asking pyro for it, or a mod though? I have a playlist already made, and I'm pretty sure both sets of notes for the computer are still with it although I may just make an entirely new set to fix the beggining/end segment planning.

I haven't sent him a PM, but its been a couple of weeks since I sent the email so he could be really busy and just not gotten around to it, but I'm not holding on to that.

I'm not sure what a 100% SS would be, honestly I'd say under 10 hours would be pretty good but I'm pretty sure a sub 7 or 8 is possible. The biggest problem with 100% SS woudln't be coin collecting or quizmo, you'd just use a consistant strat for them (Like my method, or the goomba village method for chuck; and bump attack + bandits in the desert *I think money money works with bump attack but not 100% on that*) slower yes, but it would suck to do jump attack and continuously reset when they fail you. For SS I'd say the worst part is star piece/badge collection. It is really easy to overlook one of them and after like 6-7 hours finding out you forgot ONE thing and not knowing where would be really demotivating, especially if everything else has gone  your way up till that point.

I'm pretty sure VC is fine NMeade, but check tech support or the KB for that, PM is a game I think is better on N64, but I've never noticed any major difference on the VC version.

I think it's feasible, just maybe not a fruitful venture to undertake. As Raiker said there's a hell of a lot of stuff to collect, and trying to do Quizmo and coin collecting on top of all that seems like a somewhat nightmarish SS. I think it's doable, but whoever is running it would have to have patience abounds and a killer cheat sheet.

Less grueling, probably, but it's funny because I honestly believe an any% SS would be a lot trickier. No way you could use the segmented any% strategy, it has way too much luck manipulation. You'd have to find a balance between using the faster Peril Mario strategy with being conservative and staying alive. It'd be a tough call how to balance that speed with perhaps getting other badges to help or buying a bunch of life shrooms for example. I think that would be a tough one to work out, but again I do believe it's feasible as well. We talked about this for a little bit in the original Paper Mario thread but never really got anywhere with it.

Yes, Virtual Console is acceptable and has been accepted many times in the past. It's considered official emulation. I think this is listed in the rules somewhere, or at least it was last time I read them.

At least I think it's still doable with the Taiga forum, I don't see why it wouldn't be. When I did it with the Mystical Ninja thread I just asked Enhasa, perhaps Flip could take care of it? I'm not sure really what the "scope" of each of the mods are anymore since I'm lazy and haven't been around much. Tongue

You may need a video converter to convert wmv. files to avi. files.
I am pretty sure that Jumpman__'s Banjo Kazooie run was recorded in WMV, and he was forced to reconvert it to MP4 before he could submit. You should try converting some of your run into MP4, and then post that as a quality test. I recommend using Anri (assuming it can even take wmv files as inputs).

Good luck with getting your run accpeted! I feel that it really does belong on SDA, regardless of video quality.
Ready? Set...
He may have to covert his run in Anri-chan in order to encode to LQ, MQ, and HQ specifically. But last I checked in Anri-chan, if the video is not in DVD/MPEG4 format then it'll ask for any .avi format file and nothing else.

Yes, but you also have to consider that runs are re-encoded anyway before published (since there needs to be LQ/MQ/HQ). It's more on the lines of having acceptable quality, I think. WMVs can be bastards.

Anyway, if anri doesn't accept wmvs, you should try to do a lossless encode with huffyuv or lagarith, and then encode them via anri.
I don't THINK there is a reason to reject a run encoded in wmv, unless the quality is below SDA standard. If they're good enough, they can be re-encoded to proper formats with a little trouble.
Sorry for taking so long, my biggest issue on re-encoding is space wise, but I may ask my family for an external harddrive as a going away present. Does anyone know a program that could convert wmv to avi if I get one? I can try virtual dub, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't take wmv's and anri seems to be in question. I'll look for one if I can get my hands on an external harddrive.

You may have to use ffmpeg to extract the video and audio and put them into a mp4/mkv container. From there, you can open them using avidemux and re-compress them with huffyuv/lagarith in an avi container.
Warning! Avi does NOT support Windows Media Audio! You must decompress this stream to put it into an avi container (eg raw audio, wav).
Another alternative is Virtualdub if you really want to use it, I am pretty sure you can make a script opening it with Directshowsource or something along those lines (I personally use a script to input .ts files into Virtualdub).
Oh, right. That might just work.
Create a new avisynth file (.avs) and paste into it:

DirectShowSource("your_file.wmv")

Now open that file in virtualdub, and you should be able to recompress it.
hey hey hey!!
so is that it? is the run going to go unsubmitted?
Yes, I used Mystery's method to convert to a .avi format, but after the 3rd segment 50 gb were gone so I stopped converting them since my external wouldn't hold everything at that rate. I think I will probably redo this run because I don't really like my beggining (not to mention the audio for the first four segments) and was0x/0xwas showed me another glitch that can save several minutes in a run.

If you would pyro you can post the playlist for my run as a guide for anyone planning to try, since almost all of the route plan is shown.
