Hello there, I'm a new speedrunner for Ori and the Blind Forest, and I'm having a problem with the save-drop we have to execute after getting the Stomp ability. I do manage to get underwater by saving at the edge of the cliff, but when I reload the game, I'm indeed underwater, but swimming. I can't get why. I've been trying many things to solve the issue, and some times it worked, randomly. I'd like to understand exactly how it works.

What I got for now : Saving while being mid-air makes you repop, when you reload the game, on the very first platform below your position. And if you manage to get underwater walking, you can jump and stomp if you're quick enough.

If I'm unclear about the skip I'm talking about, here's a video of a run at the moment the player does it :

Thanks in advance !
Thread title:
If you save while in mid-air, you'll be swimming at the bottom.

If you REKINDLE the save point, then you'll be walking.

The difference is, if you're walking on the floor you can immediately jump+stomp to break it, really easily. If you didn't rekindle and you're swimming, you have to mash bash+down to hopefully get a stomp off on the first active frame of the save.

Getting the frame perfect bash+stomp would be faster, but it's much easier to do the rekindle.

Okay. That's what I thought by watching videos, but my last two runs, I did that, and I couldn't manage to be walking underwater, even when rekindling. So I'm thinking maybe the fact that I first tried to reload the game without rekindling first, then seeing it didn't work, rekindled and retried, may have sorta "broken" the glitch :/

EDIT : I tried a new run and got the same problem again. And this time I'm sure I did it right : saving while being on the very edge, jumping, rekindling the save point, reloading the game. I was swimming. I cried a little.

Maybe you're pressing up or down, and making Ori go back to swimming again?

e: Oh, you're misunderstanding how this works.

You don't save on the edge. You run OFF the edge, and place a save point in the two frame window that you're not quite falling yet. We use a visual cue to line that up.
Now your save point is IN MID-AIR. So you climb back up, stand at the edge, and hold E (or whatever the controller is) to rekindle the save point. Then you reload.

Doing a save anywhere drop (ie spending an ability point) will never leave you standing under water.
Gah, sorry, I didn't expain it right. That's exactly what I'm doing, I'm running toward the edge, trying to save at the right frame before falling, then climbing back to rekindle ^^'

I'm sure I'm not pressing anything except the save button ^^'
Well, I can't tell what you're doing wrong if I can't tell what you're doing. Can you post a recording?
