My feelings on The Demon Rush

The run wasn't exactly rejected. I talked to Radix about it and we agreed if groobo could do a new game run in 10 hours or less (yes, the limit is extended for this game), then he could submit it along with his new game plus run.

I hope you take a crack at it! I know you're good enough at the game that the karmic transformer glitch isn't the only thing you have going for you. I think you can do it in 10 hours, probably a lot less! I don't want to guess how many 100s of hours of work that 10 hour run would take, though ...

Even if you take a break from the game first I hope you try the New Game run.

My PC is still wrecked. Now when I have a lot of free time, I can't record due to hardware issues. What a shame. :-/

I still have one question though: A 10h extension means 10:xx or sub 10? There won't be a okami run here on SDA if it's the second.

I'll take my hands back on this when I finish other projects like diablo (yes, even faster), metal slug 3 and 4. My hard estimate is that I'll work on Okami again in mid-May and I don't even know if a sub 11h run is possible. The admins are so stubborn when it comes to game-specific rule changes.

Thanks for posting that. I was avoiding this topic until I finished the game and was sad there was nothing to watch once I finished it.

A few quick questions:

wouldn't it be faster to do the turnip digging game the first time in Kamiki, to avoid having to change to day then back to night?

I haven't played all the way through a NG+ yet, so I don't know; is Solar Flare already gold dusted when you get it? Because if not, wouldn't it be a good idea to both do so and equip a second reflector as sub for the wailing mirrior bonus when attacking Orochi's heads?

In Tsuta Ruins, in the room with the three demon gates, couldn't you just use the karmic transformer glitch to climb up to the top of the room without doing the demon gates?

And why not jsut use the glitch to climb the cliff in cursed Taka Pass, skipping the Waka fight?

Also, during the digging game, couldn't you use bloom on Mr. Bamboo near the end to make him move faster?

And in Wawku Shrine, after you freeze the one spinning fire wheel, you can use the ice from that frozen wheel to freeze the other one, instead of redrawing the snowflake.

You have to have bloom to make those trees that confuse the fat lady. Doing it the normal way is waaayyy slower.

The game counts the time when you're in the menu too. It turns out that changing from mirror/rosary to mirror/mirror and to mirror/rosary back again, is slower than just doing it my way.

Those poison-vases will only appear after you've destroyed all three demon gates. There's also a little more advanced glitch than the kt glitch, that lets me get into the room where you get vine instantly, but unfortunately the evil-grass won't be "evil" so you can't recover it (it becomes cursed after you've destroyed all poison-vases).

You can't bloom the tree until you have fought Waka (no matter how close you are).

You can also stop her long enough to dig up a turnip with either a power slash or covering her with ink.

Well wouldn't at least gold dusting solar flare be enough to speed up the fight? And I thought I remembered the instruction manual saying that the game paused when in the pause menu; guess I remembered incorrectly.

Solar Flare is already powered up when you get it (IF you've used gold dust on your previous game). I'm a little busy atm so I'll have to take a deeper look into the timing system once I'm back working on Okami.

Actually nothing, nothing at all. I'm just close to finishing all my projects and there'll be only one left.

About msx... For fuck sake, the game's just evil. The most frustrating part about this is that it's soo childish easy. But somehow, because of random luck, I couldn't complete it on one life yesterday, even though I've been playing it for like 10hrs/day. And on top of it, I did manage to get to the last boss w/o any deaths once... Well, almost, if not for the last fucking enemy before the boss killing me with a knife. I've destroyed two ps2 pads in one day, it's my personal record.

edit: YES! I've finished metal slug x a while ago. I'll do a crappy normal game run first, instead of doing the improved NG+ and then going lazy and not finishing the normal game run at all. It'll take ma a week or two, I'll be doing like two attempts for each segment max. Tongue

Btw, I've finished the first segment. It's kind of scary how the intro alone took almost 15 minutes. It seems that I'll have to watch Tom's video walkthrough and pay attention to his strategies or what's there to improve.

edit: If you want to keep an eye on how far I am with the normal run, you can just check my signature.

edit2: I've finished it today. The final time is 9:19. Without the shit load of small mistakes it could go even below 9:15. Anyway, I'll start working on the improved NG+ run immidietly. I'm afraid it'll be sub 2:40/2:30 though, since oob is still illegal at SDA.

I'll be lucky if it gets through the verification phase, it obviously has a shit load of minor mistakes left in. After all, it took me only 5 days to do this from start to finish. 3 attempts at worst per segment, w/o any practicing ftw.
