Nintendo Top Loader Modifications:

The mod I offer adds AV output and loses RF functionality.  This method significantly reduces the 'jailbars' on the video out and the video quality is on par with a 'toaster' style NES.

If you would like to have 'fake stereo' which is having two mono channels (pictured below) that can be done in either method.  I can also add a power indicator in the form of a LED underneath the power button (only color I have on hand is blue).

Pricing is as follows:

AV Mod (either method):  $29
Dual Mono Audio: $3
Power LED indicator:  $3

All options (Composite video, Dual mono, and LED power indicator):  $35

Here are a couple pictures of his completed top loader:

NES Modifications:
I can confidently offer SNES2/Snes Mini/Snes Jr. modding for S-video and rgb.  For those curious of the quality of the video output, here is a video I created of a previous mini I modded showing video on all available outputs and bsnes for comparison (Watch in HD for best results):

SNES Jr. S-video/RGB

RGB or S-Video Only: $22
RGB and S-Video:    $35.

Prices don't include shipping.  You pay shipping both ways.  Shipping a top loader in a small box is usually about $9-11~ depending on the service selected.

If you'd like this service performed, feel free to PM me and let me know what you want done.  If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!

Thanks.

When doing this AV mod will it have 2 sound channels?  Just wanna make sure so I could have SDA quality sound unless NES is special case

Yes, both audio jacks would have sound output.  However, they will both be the same sound channel because the NES only outputs mono sound, hence 'fake stereo'.

Ah so it's possible to capture stereo then?  If so would this be acceptable source for NES submitted runs?

Zewing, recording with a normal toploader is acceptable for submission.  Recording with this is no different.

Edit:  Except it is much easier.

No NES supports stereo sound natively. That's why anri has a NES? option.
This is an awesome service, thanks for doing it!  PJ, have you received your NES back yet?  What do you think?

I've been holding off getting a toploader just for the lack of AV out.  I'll buy one and send it to you asap if this is working out well.

I'm sure it has arrived at my place in NC, but I'm in NY for the weekend so I can't test it.  Sad  Pasky has provided me with pictures and videos and it looks amazing.  I just need to test it with Btoads to see if it truly works or not.  Tongue

Will update on Monday!

I'm waiting for a good deal on a Famicom AV (JP version of NES Top Loader) that supports Multi-AV out, the same kind you use on SNES, N64 and Gamecube. However if you want your 8-bit console to support S-video and Scart you have to mod it by buying a pricey PPU Chip.

Mr. K had one at AGDQ that we used for all the NES games that were ran. Is that one you worked on too?
Ciento Dos Huevos
No, I didn't do that one.

This is a good price for the work. FYI, if you are shipping in the same region of the US, shipping is about $5-6 for Priority Mail.

Also, they'll fit in a Regional Rate Box A (https://www.usps.com/ship/priority-mail-regional-rate.htm) and will ship to most of the US for lower than ordinary Medium Flat-Rate or the normal Priority price. The boxes are free and you can get them delivered to your home at no charge. You get the 'discounted' price if you use any mailing service (Stamps.com, Paypal, etc). As always, your main guide here is the calculator itself, which will show you every rate possible: http://postcalc.usps.com/

Awesome, thanks for that info, when I shipped out PJ's it was $10. I did have to use a slightly larger box though because I did his PSP as well

So I finally got back home and found my newly modded toploader waiting in the mailbox for me.  After I dried its tears I gave it a try and it works perfectly!  I'm not stickler for video/audio quality but it looks and sounds really nice.  Noticeably better than playing it through the VCR like I used to.  It can still play Battletoads without exploding, so it seems to be in good shape.

Definitely recommend this if you've got a toploader.

Just finished completing Mecharichter's Top loader.  It was a bit dirty when it arrived so I cleaned it up and added the composite out with fake stereo.  This one had a really bad case of jailbars on the video out, however it's no longer present with the mod:

I got my top loader back in the mail and I am very satisfied! The jail bars are completely gone and everything looks great.

Anyone on the fence about this, I would recommend it. It's worth the price, especially if you already have a top loader.

Here's an example of a top loader with a really bad case of them:

Same top loader after the mod (not done by me):

They're interference lines on the top loaders video out.  It's the only negative to owning a top loader besides having no composite out.

Just completed Klaige's top loader.

I had some time today, so I did some minor documenting of what I actually did to his.

The first thing I do, is I desolder the entire PPU off the PCB, this is needed in order to lift pin 21 (which is composite out).  I do this for 2 reasons, the first is pin 21 needs to be lifted reduce the jailbars as much as possible.  This stops the composite line from going through the RF circuitry that provides most of the interference on the video signal.  The 2nd reason I do this is because it makes the process reversible.  Most people who do this mod will simply cut the leg on pin 21 and grab the video out, doing this leaves you with a crippled ppu which will need a hack job to restore back to original functionality:

Next, I solder the ppu back in place with pin 21 lifted:

Next thing to do is grab 5v, ground, and sound from the back of the PCB:

Next, grab the composite out we lifted from the PPU:

Then I drilled the RCA jack holes after cleaning the case:

Wired everything up to the new amplifier I built and powered and grounded the LED, secured the AMP in place with non conductive hot glue:

And it's completed.

For comparison, here was a before picture of the RF out on my television, you can see the jail bars pretty well.

And the completed product:
