the best thing about Runnerguy's post isn't even the video, its the fact that the last OoT trick found was LESS than 48 hours ago.:D You guys rule.

Just a suggestion: maybe start including controller icons and flashing in "red" (or similar to that effect) what inputs are being pressed to match on-screen action or something in your videos, and slowing them down a bit?  That would have been extremely appreciated on the DoT Skip video.

Yeah, or even a hands vid similar to what a lot of the GH/RB players do in their FC videos lol. Obviously this would be done mostly just for the particularly difficult tricks, such as the DoT skip.

For those who still haven't converted to ZSR, here's Walking While Talking With Fire Arrows (not discovered by me)
Quote from Runnerguy2489:
The way the site is updated is currently being revamped. Right now it's pretty messy and hard to update. Once this is done, I see a lot of things being added. I agree that documentation of all the tricks (even ones that are small or not very significant) is very important, and one of the major reasons that ZSR was made in the first place.

Mäh, I still think it's easy enough (a lot easier than a Wiki for example) and imo the main problem ZSR has is lazy people. But what do I know. Maybe there will be a lot of new pages once the revamping is done... in 6 months. XD
Don't think!  feeeeeal
The problem is most people just want one place they can go to and skim for all their speedrunning interests, instead of having to navigate through several different forums and sites.  Which is why it'd be great if SDA catered to communities more instead of the same 15 most active forum users.

Just wanted to say that I was working on a project involving OoT and playing through every known version I could get my hands on (N64: JPN 1.0, NA 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, EUR 1.2, AUS 1.2 GCN : JPN OoT/MQ, CE, NA OoT/MQ, CE, EU OoT/MQ, CE, Wii VC: JPN, NA, EU), and I successfully DoT skipped on them all.  Saved me a lot of time having to play them all up till a certain point in the game.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
that's cool.
it's a good thing Nintendo didn't do many changes to most of the versions.

what are the "downsides" of GC OOT? planning to get the MQ disc cause i can find it pretty cheap here in sweden and i want 60fps/hz/NTSC, whatever.
nvm: I asked the IRC...

If you don't have an N64 controller adapter for GCN/Wii (not that common, but readily available online), using the GCN or Classic Controller analog is a bitch for Early Forest and DoT Skip.

Hmm thats ironic.. I play with GC controller (on vc atm) and I can do the Forest escape (I guess you meaned this, not Forest Temple early or something) easily with it, I usually get it on first try..
The DoT Skip is a little harder, takes maybe 4-5 tries and im through..

So I dont mind the gamecube controller at all, I actually prefer it over the N64 controller..
It's just a matter of what you're more familiar with for most people. I have trouble DoT skipping on GC, but that's because I'm used to N64.

An n64 controller adapter for GC/VC will not make it easier to do DoT skip or anything that is harder on GC controller. The overly sensitive analog stick on the GC and VC versions is actually because of the way the emulator is programmed, not because of the controller.

Another question about gc version:
Is the whole game (rom) loaded onto the memory or does it load from the disc sometimes? because i remember my old MQ disc froze ("The disc could not be read" or similar) when i entered market. so im guessing it loads from the disc some things?

VC version is off Wii's HDD via emu, GCN version is off disc.  GCN only had 43MB internal storage capacity, and OoT was 32MB.  16MB of the GCN RAM was for audio/video buffer, and 3MB was for textures, leaving 24 for true internal storage, some of which is allocated to certain stuff already.  So it wasn't possible to load all of OoT onto the GCN.

I was just giving my opinion.  IGN-X - I can do DoT skip with N64 controller at a much higher success rate than GCN, so for me, yes, it does make it easier.  I know the emulation makes the two technically the same in terms of sensitivity, but it's the feel of the stick that matters in my case, and GCN's stick is way too loose IMO.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
i think it definitely depends on what version you've used the most. i've played with the GC controller on both GC and Wii versions way more than the original and i have way better sucess with the GC controller overall. i know TSA has played the N64 way more so it isn't surprising the N64 controller is much better for you.
also, N64 sticks can get worn out way easier than GC ones so if your N64 controller is really worn out (like mine) the game would be a lot harder to play. i had much more trouble in N64 MM compared to VC MM when i did my 10th anniversary playthough. the stick is also stiffer even if you have a brand new controller.

btw, i didn't notice the GC version loading the game outside from when it saves and the final cutscene (the ending is pre-recorded and not real-time on GC, while it is properly done in the VC version. the deku tree sprout missing in an any% RBA run gives it away since it is never missing in the GC versions)
the Wii's internal memory is a flash chip. it sounds more acurrate than HDD since the Wii lacks an actual internal HDD.

Yea, it's supposedly a 512MB flash memory storage solution on Wii.  However, that's not entirely true - I have a hacked Wii and I can get more than 512MB onto the system (though the Wii throws a fit when you do that).  I guess I say HDD because the Wii at our work has a true HDD with I think like 150-250GB and a 4GB flash drive for DS games.  GC version of OoT/MQ loads something before you can see the title screen, yea, but I forget if this happens on the Collector's Edition.
Hey guys, I may have discovered a new trick, more actually a slightly faster way of escaping Lon Lon Ranch using the Bomb Stair case method.  While I was practicing it, I somehow managed to do it with one bomb.  The situation is explained in the video linked below.  However, with my lack of knowledge of Bomb staircasing I could have just gotten lucky, or that what happened is common.  I really dont know, so I decided to share just in case.

So, where are the "loading zones" on the GC? Is it slower than n64/vc because of its needing to load?
umad
Huh, the deku tree sprout is always there in the N64 version in the credits too - does that mean that the VC version has the credits rendered differently than any other version?
torch slug since 2006
I just checked 3 versions of the endings:

YautjaElders 100% on Gamecube here on SDA
Pokeys RBA (n64) run here on SDA
And NintendoCapriSuns Lets play of it which was done on VC

And I looked at the Deku tree sprout scene and they are identical...

Dont know if that was what you guys were meaning..
umad
The deku tree sprout will always be there if you completed the forest temple on all versions. It's just on VC that it won't be there if you skipped the forest temple.

Yes, the deku tree sprout is just gone in the VC version

Somebody refresh my memory - if you Forest Escape and then immediately DoT skip into Adult Link, do you have the ability to pick up Goron Special Crops or not?  I seem to recall being able to use them when doing this, but in this PAL version (EUR) I have, it didn't work.  Instead of having the Goron Bracelet, I had the Hover Boots in the spot.  Maybe I just imagined being able to pick up bomb crops.

On N64 EU & VC EU (have'nt tried NTSC) I have never been able to pick up bomb right after DoT Skipping, and I also have the Hover Boots in the bomb bag slot.
