Oh yes, sorry for the off-topic post. Ok, I'll get on topic. Smiley

How is progress going on a speedrun of this game? I watched this forum a while ago and saw people discover many great tricks. Escape the forest, DoT skip, others. So has anyone tried putting it all together for a very fast run?
Zelda Rulez!
Hi everyone! I can give you guys that UoT rar file if you don't have it. It's newest version of it and should work fine. I have used it alot so if you have some questions feel free to ask. I attached that rar file to this post. Hope this help you out Wink

The current any% run is trying to get under 1 hour using RBA, DoT skip, escape forest, etc.

Quote from Samoht:
New video I made about some new small timesavers over the current route and groobo's test run:

EDIT: Ok, the third timesaver in my video actually seems to save 15 seconds!

How I did this was I timed how long it took in groobo's test run to go from sunset to sunrise in his segments 6 and 7 (of course excluding places where time wasn't passing, though I included the darkness areas) and it took 1:44.

Now I timed how long it took from sunset to sunrise in multiple tests. I replicated everything that groobo did in segment 6 and 7 until sunrise (except I used the new trick) and it took 1:29 each time. The normal time to pass from sunset to sunrise is 1:25, but you are in the darkness for some time at the beginning of segment 7, so it takes more time.

Also it is better to stall more time in segment 6, since you will need less time waiting in segment 7 so you won't have to wait as long so many times until you get the 2 bomb drops. Hope I didn't confuse anybody.

I took the time to really test this method. - please read the description, it's complicated, and I'm not good at all this route planning and time testing stuff (part of the reason this is taking so long). Long story short, it saves about 10 seconds but only if you do the new forest escape.

If someone can confirm I didn't make any mistakes, then I'm ready to start practicing.

is it ok for sda if the save file numbers dont match? i mean if one file is 000 and in an other segment its 001?
i was careless and didnt pay attention to it so i got this problem now. item count and this stuff is alright its just this damn save file number...why does this fuck exist

[edit] sry i figured out those stand for the deaths lol [/fail]
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
i think everything has to match up.
if there's just 1 detail that doesn't fit, verifiers might reject the run due to possible "game manipulation" (i know it sounds unfair but they have to cover their asses against real cheaters)
...?
Sasuke is right and everything does need to match up, but exceptions have been made. In one of the pokemon runs(cant remember which off the top of my head) is missing an entire segment.
So i think that if you make a note and explain what happened when you submit your run, then it should be ok. The verifiers will all know enough about OoT that they'll know that the number won't change anything, as long as everything else matches up.

Of course, that's just my opinion...
thanks for the reply but i figured out now that those numbers when selecting a save file stand for the deaths. and i did a suicide skip so it actually has to change from 000 to 001. first i thought its something like how many new games you started cause i redid a lot of segments and of course i started a lot of new files but thats luckily not the case so its alright with my run Grin
...?
Haha, well that's good to know. Good luck with the rest of the run.

I think I remember mikwuyma saying something to the point of regreting having excepted that run. I'd make sure now while you dont have an entire run recorded...
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Yes, I regretted accepting that Pokemon run. Accepting it was a mistake, and I don't allow missing segments anymore.

Theory for reverse DoT Skip as Adult with no hover boots:

The DoT is two pieces split down the middle so maybe we can clip through it, I tried for about 30 minutes last noight ad I think that it might be possible because on one jumplash Link was pushed to the side a little but no clip through.

If we can end up clipping through then the SS might be possible in under 1 hour in the future.
...?

Understandable, but ssbm realized that it wasn't a mistake and the death counter number was actually supposed to go up. So everything's fine, i suppose.
MrGrunz is a guay
Pokey I've been trying that since before DoT skip.  Its not gonna work.
Speedrunner
I guess single segment will never breach 1 hour D=
There was discussion of a 2 segment OoT run, where it only splits at the DoT. It wouldn't be accepted but a cool run to watch. I like the idea of a SS but not whenever it means that leaving out one savewarp loses 35 minutes.
Speedrunner
Single segment with no savewarp is fun though
I'm not your buddy, guay!
For those who haven't seen in the irc yet, I got segment 3 done today:

Segment 1
Segment 2
Segment 3

Great news, I estimated that it would take about 8 minutes to do this segment, and my time for it was 7:38.7, which means on top of the 10 second time saver I posted about on the last page, I'm now even 20+ more seconds ahead!

Segment 4 will probably come soon. I'd actually be shocked if I didn't get it done tomorrow. Then, I'm going to post my adult route as it stands right now. I'm going to then test all my weakest bomb uses and see if 15 with a combined segment 7 and 8 will be better than 20 with 7 and 8 split.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
cool. nice to see some progress on the run.
btw, is it possible to sub 1 hour or is it too far still?

So the new escape is like 30 seconds faster now, plus whatever you can shave off from the expected segment 4. Sub 1 hour is coming.

I thought it was confirmed that the savewarping was faster. Don't the pressure jumps save like 20 seconds? Plus the 3 extra superslides? Also what do you mean by 15 with combined segment 7 and 8 vs 20 with 7 and 8 split?

Sub 1 hour is definately possible now.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
i think 15 and 20 are bomb amounts. splitting the segment helps to get more drops according to his calculations.

But you really can't get 15 or 20, especially if you're combining segments 7 and 8.
I'm not your buddy, guay!
Here is Segment 4.

Here is the entire adult route. Please read both routes. They are very detailed. I want to make sure the number of pauses throughout is also at a minimum.

Segment 7 and 8 split:

Segment 5:
-Go to Kakariko
-Get pocket egg
-Pause (1) and pick up bug in graveyard (equipped are bugs on C-L, bombs C-D, and ocarina C-R)
-Get Hylian Shield
-Poe trick to open grave faster
-Dampe's Race
-Hookshot
-Pause (2) and equip hookshot and shield then save (equipped are hookshot on C-L, bombs C-D, and ocarina C-R)

Segment 6:
-To Hylia
-Learn Scarecrow song
-Play song to get to fishing pond
-Steal rod and go to water near lab and pause (3) to equip bugs and save. (equipped are hookshot on C-L, bugs on C-D, bombs on C-R)

Note: Bombs must be on C-R now to do Bomb RBA in the next segment.

Segment 7:
-Leave the market area and the dark sky area outside of the castle
-Drop bugs, pick them back up
-Backwalk a little so when you drop them you don't lose them in the dirt.
-Backflip and do Bottle B trick
-Recatch bugs and you've done RBA bomb slot.
-Wait for daylight
-Enter Kakariko
-Pause (4) and equip pocket cucco (hookshot C-L, bombs C-D, pocket cucco C-R).
-Drop and catch bugs again in bottle B for pocket cucco RBA.
-Wake up Talon
-Get Cojiro
-Drop and catch bugs again in bottle B for Cojiro RBA.
-With these 3 RBA moves you now have bomb bag, quiver, black gauntlets, bomb drops will appear, and a bigger wallet I think
-Go manipulate 2 bomb drops (10 bombs) from bushes and pause (5) to save

Segment 8:
-Leave market
-Backwalk superslide to Lost Woods bridge with an ESS thrown in (9 bombs)
-Pressure jump to get off bridge and hookshot up to see old man (8 bombs)
-Exchange Cojiro for mushroom
-SS through Lost Woods to bushes (7 bombs)
-Pull out bomb and blow up 3 bushes to get another bomb drop (6 bombs + 5 = 11 bombs)
-Blow up rocks in GC warp (10 bombs)
-Hookshot out of Goron City
-Down DM and enter Kakariko
-Buy 10 arrows
-Roof trick to old hag, exchange mushroom for potion and pause (6) to save.

Segment 9:
-Leave market
-Backwalk superslide to Lost Woods bridge with an ESS thrown in (9 bombs)
-Pressure jump to get off bridge and hookshot up to see kokiri (8 bombs)
-Exchange potion for saw
-Backwalk through lost woods this time
-Bomb the 3 bushes for another bomb drop (7 bombs + 5 = 12)
-Warp to Goron City and hookshot out
-SS around corner and up side of Death Mountain (11 bombs)
-Blow up one rock (10 bombs)
-SS through falling rocks (9 bombs)
-Climb to top
-Bomb Fairy wall (8 bombs)
-Pause (7), equip bugs (it has to go over hookshot on C-L, we need to keep bombs [C-D] and we need to RBA the C-R saw)
-Drop bugs, do quick bottle B (ugh, it's easy to mess up and it's right at the end of this hard segment) and re-equip bugs too. This will have done RBA on Saw to get Zelda's Lullaby.
-You have bottle in your hand. So your options are do Ocarina Items with a bomb (would be bombs 7) OR pause and equip ocarina over bugs, which we need again in the next segment anyway. I'm thinking OI the bomb (7 bombs) and play lullaby to get magic.
-Pause (8) and save.

Segment 10:
-You've got bugs on C-L, bombs on C-D, and Saw on C-R
-Leave market, superslide to Gerudo, ESS around corner, and do SS to loading zone (5 bombs)
-Pause (9). Put hookshot over BOMBS (this only works if someone can confirm that the Light Arrow BA resets the adult items and we get bombs back!!! Please someone do this, othewise it's an extra pause after crossing)
-Hookshot across gerudo bridge
-Exchange Saw for broken knife.
-Drop bugs and do quick bottle B again (ugh, again after a tough segment)
-Pause (10) and save

Segment 11:
-Light arrow cutscene will start immediately because you did RBA for medallions
-This SHOULD reset the bombs and ocarina on C-D and C-R, leaving C-L blank.
-SS to rainbow bridge cutscene (4 bombs)
-Pause (11), equip light arrow on C-L, and save in tower

Segment 12:
-Quick trial skip with bomb staircase (2 bombs)
-Pause (12) and save.

Segment 13:
-Scale tower, at final staircase superslide/ESS combo to top (1 bomb)
-Defeat Dorf single cycle with crouch stabs
-Escape
-SS to Ganon to keep Master Sword (0 bombs)
-Win

That is the 20 bomb method. Note every place I'm using a bomb and estimate which 5 you would remove if you could.

Segment 7 and 8 combined:

-Leave Kakariko and as you pass the bush, throw it once for a bomb drop (5 bombs)
-Superslide OR Water Jumpslash ESS to Kokiri (depends on the time difference if saving that extra bomb is worth it for a SS later, for now I assume bomb is saved)
-Pressure jump, hookshot to old man (4 bombs)
-backwalk to bushes in Lost Woods, use bomb to blow them up and get a bomb drop (3 bombs + 5 = 8 bombs)
-GC warp and blow up boulder (7 bombs)
-Hookshot to top
-Down DM and enter Kakariko
-Buy 10 arrows
-Roof trick to old hag, exchange mushroom for potion and pause (5) to save.

The rest is the same EXCEPT for bombs, so I will have to find out which superslides to leave in and which to take out.

I may have made some mistakes here, not sure, I'll go through everything later and test bombs and stuff. But that's the general idea as of now.

If I'm right, then you have to save 3 bombs, when using the 2nd route.
I would leave the following superslides out.

In segment 9:
-SS around corner and up side of Death Mountain (11 bombs)
-SS through falling rocks (9 bombs)

and wouldn't you save a bomb in segment 10 here:
-Leave market, superslide to Gerudo, ESS around corner, and do SS to loading zone (5 bombs)
when changing the ESS direction with pausing instead of using a 2nd SS into the loading zone?
