hi, im just posting here because im curious. i dont plan to make a speedrun or something myself, i only enjoy watching them and i saw a speed run for oot today here were they only needed 3 medallions. can someone explain how that is possible? i havnt found that info anywere. i didnt saw something special at all, he just started and there zelda was and everything and you got the light arrows..

that's because of developer lazyness.
they made it so that the only way to enter shadow temple was with the song and that song can be obtained only by beating the first 3 temples.
when shadow early was found, it was no longer necessary to get the song to enter the temple and the required medallions to trigger the light arrow cutscene are the shadow and spirit medallions only because technically the devs required you to get the first 3 to get shadow.

a very similar reasoning applies in TP where you can skip both goron mines and temple of time because the game assumes that you beat them if you beat lakebed temple/city in the sky and triggers the sequences that come after those dungeons.
The original leever.
Has epona been skipped for these runs?
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.

Come on, how do you expect people to hop over fences without Epona?

It's not really laziness most of the time. In the case of TP and OoT, you will never accedentally skip GM / ToT / 3 medalions. However a player could end skipping one requirement accedentally if you made a huge checklist of events before every new advancement in the game. It's easier, safer in terms of the player messing up the game's advancement, and safer in terms of programmer error...

Just wanted to say that i have done a like "play-thru with glitches" on youtube. you can see it here :

Check if you guys see some new route or something, idk.

Anyways, how is this game going for speedrunning? Is anyone running (except Brian for his 100%), and so on?

Even if bombs are skipped in the Child Link section, a sub-1:30 SS would need to be pretty close to TAS-like speed and luck. My aim is simply to get as close to 1:30 as seems reasonably possible.

I'm sorry for asking this stupid question, and I'm sure, it's already been posted earlier.... but to be honest... I'm simply not in the mood to read hundrets of pages...

So... How far are you (who ever) on planning / doing a speedrun with the new glitch, where you can get the Master Sword without the 3 Stones?

I think runnerguy2489 is doing a run. I plan on doing a run if I can get ahold of a v1.0 cart (As I said my friend might have one). In the mean time I'm just practicing. Practicing is really good as I am now able to do the forest escape very quickly (no pauses, no using c-up to perfect my angle), I can do fishing really fast, and I can often get dampe's race in 0:48, and one time I got it in 0:47. So expect a good run  Grin

Nice stuff Cosmo!

Runnerguy got far into his run but then restarted it. The route is solid all optimizations are small (pressure jumping).

Don't think!  feeeeeal
Anyone working on a TAS test run?  I think it would be best way to test and time different routes and prep/optimize for the real run.

If you don't have one of these yet, I'd suggest getting one:

http://www.google.com/products?q=N64+usb&oe=utf-8&hl=en&scoring=p

Then you can practice OoT runs with save states where ever you want.
Aw shit I was just playing the practice route and I didnt get black gauntlets so I couldnt pick up the bushes. Is this because of the golden scale?

sounds to be like you forgot to RBA w/ the pocket cucco

TASes can't use resets yet so this is where they got stuck:

MrGrunz is starting an MST run.

Is the new forest escape plus reset after scarecrow to fast forest escape route faster for TAS?
This statue's one-eyed gaze pierces into your mind
I believe it to be slower for TAS because cucco manipulation, owl skips, and fast hover clip on the old route saves a lot of time

What does the new route broken down into segments look like?

an all temples TAS, not normal run Wink

I won't upload any WIPs, but I often publish the m64 in the zelda irc once I finished a new section of the game.
but I uploaded the rupee route, though:
Speedrunner
Grunz you said to keep that in the irc. Now someone's gonna end up spoiling it.

New route idea!

Instead of using scarecrow song and hookshot to get to fishing place, we could plant a bean in Lake Hylia! In segment 3 we would go to Zora's river after entering the Domain, buy the magic beans, empty the ruto bottle, plant the bean, then take the owl to the castle. It would be much faster if we could find a way to bypass the rocks in Zora's Domain and enter from the other side. I'll test this out later.

EDIT: Actually this would make the old forest escape faster, since you don't need the ocarina, plus you can do more superslides. Unfortunately this route is only possible on GCN since you need to use Deku stick on B for Gerudo bridge skip ISG. And since you need a deku stick then the owl skip will probably be expected, making a super hard segment 4. You'll need 80 rupees in total for child segment, 40 for the shield, 20 for fishing, 10 for deku stick, and 10 for magic bean.
Actually pokey found something that could lead to a bridge skip without a sword or hookshot. If he were to do this in another direction it could possibly work.

He's back!
Thats pretty old.
