we only use OI 4-5 times so i doubt that its faster to get the fairy ocarina

I'm sure that it's much, much faster to just pull out the fairy ocarina than to use ocarina items each time.

the cutscene is long, and you can't even get the fairy ocarina until after the guy moves away from the exit, you can't get it right after you escape the forest.

I get what you are saying, except for the ocarina part.

oh. well, still the time it takes to do that and to get through the cutscene is longer than OI. neat trick though.

Just did another test run (5th?) with the bomb trick.  We need 12 bombs:

-superslide to kokiri with cojiro
-megaflip to bridge
-superslide to kakariko with mushroom
-superslide to kokiri with potion
-megaflip to bridge
-kill yourself in hyrule field
-superslideto GV
-3 bombs at death mountain
-2 for ganondorf and ganon

we can get rid of the bridge flips and use acrytes trick, but its faster and easier with bombs.  Now its a matter of getting the bomb drops, and if getting 1 extra drop is slower than the hookshot trick twice.

The only place I can think of to get bomb drops are the grass in the graveyard (get black gauntlets) and dampe's grave.  Dampe's gave is probably too slow so we're going to have to use luck abuse.  If you get 1 drop in the grass then restart the segment.  If you get 2 then just use acryte's trick.  If you're lucky enough to get 3 or more, then forget acrytes trick.  If anyone has other ideas, please share them.

Now about arrows and the stick.  The kokiri shop is open 24/7 so we'll buy both there.  Its just an extra few rupees for arrows.  For the quickest rupees, the chest in the hole in kakariko and the 40 from the castle bridge should do (20 for the rod, 20 for arrows, 10 for sticks).

I'll be making the new (10,000,000th?) route soon if no one has a better idea for bombs.
Catchin' them all
That would be a nice idea, I really like to try the route and maybe even record it. Smiley

What if, after getting the Poacher's Saw, you took the Goron City Shortcut and continued up Death Mountain to the fairy fountain, then did RBA on the Poacher's Saw in the fountain to get songs and set up Ocarina Items, played Zelda's Lullaby, got magic, then savewarped?

That would put a Deku Stick on B, and in the next segment you would superslide to Gerudo, use Acryte's trick, get the Broken Goron Sword, put a Bottle on B and RBA medallions, then, since you have a bottle in your hand already, do Ocarina Items to warp to Temple of Time.

The Light Arrow cutscene plays, and after the cutscene, you have a Deku Stick on B again. Save, and you have the Master Sword on B for the next segment.

I've tried it all on the GCN version, and it works.

Edit: Sample Route

Seg. 1
- Intro

Seg. 2
- Sword

Seg. 3
- Shield

Seg. 4
- Escape Forest
- Backwalk to Kakariko
- Cucco Collection Bottle
- (Optional) Save in Well
- Backwalk to Lake Hylia
- Catch Bug and use Ocarina Items to set Scarecrow's Song
- Take Owl to Hyrule Castle
- Get 40 Rupees from chains
- Door of Time Skip, Become adult

Seg. 5
- Backwalk to Kakariko
- Get Egg, Hookshot, and Hylian Shield
- Backwalk to Lake Hylia
- Confirm Scarecrow's song with OI
- Hookshot to Fishing Pond, Steal Rod
- Leave Lake Hylia
- Deku Stick on B after climbing ladder
- Backwalk to Kakariko
- Wake up Talon
- Trade Pocket Cucco for Cojiro
- Get Bottle on B
- RBA Bombs for Bottle in Bomb slot (Refills enabled)
- RBA Cojiro for Bomb Bag/Quiver
- Get 3 Bomb Pickups from grass
- Superslide to Kokiri
- Buy 1 Deku Stick and 10 Arrows at Forest Shop
- Trade Cojiro for Odd Mushroom
- Megaflip to Bridge
- Superslide to Kakariko
- Trade Odd Mushroom for Odd Potion
- Superslide to Kokiri Forest
- Trade Odd Potion for Poacher's Saw
- Take Goron City Warp
- Hookshot to top and exit
- Climb Death Mountain to Fairy Fountain
- RBA Poacher's Saw for Songs inside Fairy Fountain
- Play Zelda's Lullaby and get Magic

Seg. 6
- Superslide to Gerudo Valley
- Acryte's Bridge Skip
- Trade Poacher's Saw for Broken Goron Sword
- Get Bottle on B
- RBA Broken Goron Sword for Medallions
- Ocarina Items to warp to Temple of Time
- Get Light Arrows

Seg. 7
- Watch Bridge Cutscene
- Enter Ganon's Castle
- Trials Skip
- Save in Tower

Seg. 8
- Ascend Ganon's Tower
- Kill Ganondorf
- Escape Castle
- Kill Ganon

I don't know if this will be faster, but it doesn't abuse death and cuts out the need to play Nocturne and climb all the way up Death Mountain for magic.

I tried this route on the GCN version and it works perfectly. Saving with Bottle on B in segment 5 puts Deku Stick on B for Acryte's Bridge Skip and the Light arrow cutscene at the end of segment 6 replaces the bottle on B with a Deku Stick. Saving and restarting once puts the Master Sword back on B for segment 7

yeah, it would be great if someone could record the new route even if it wasn't a speed run.

If you save with a bottle on B to get deku sticks on B, your master sword gets deleted and the only way to get it back is by going back and forward through time, and we're not going to the forest temple.

If you save with Deku Sticks on B and restart, you get the Master Sword Back.

...At least on my game

I could be wrong on this though, I'll try it again

If you save with anything other than a sword on B, you will restart with no sword in the equipment screen and deku sticks on B.  And we can't use deku sticks to kill ganon now can we?
I tried it on both N64 and GCN - Save with stick on B and no Master Sword in Equipment screen, restart, you'll have a stick on B and Master Sword equippable on the equipment screen.

Try it, it may just be on my version (1.0), but it works with Gamecube, I'm pretty sure

Just tried it and my master sword is gone.  I'll repeat

SAVING WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN A SWORD ON B WILL DELETE YOUR SWORD AND PUT STICKS ON B WHEN YOU RELOAD YOUR FILE.
I'll take your word for it then. On my end though, I get Master Sword back on B every time.
zzzzzzzzzz
It's obviously either a difference in game version or game situation that is causing this difference.  I don't think either of you are lying, and you need to stop fighting about it (ZFG).

That would definately be it, thank you Samoht.

I tried saving once with just the Deku Stick, and It didn't put the sword back on B. There may be a special case after the Light Arrow cutscene, but my memory's foggy. I'm doing a testrun right now of the route I posted, just to see if it works.

Yes, but what we want is to keep sticks on B without the master sword being deleted from the equipment screen.

Azorae, the reason you got back the master sword is because you saved with sticks on B, when we would save with a bottle on B in segment 6 with your route.

EDIT: Nevermind, I get it now.
Why dont you just sell a dose of bugs to the wierd lady for the 50 ruppees that you need
Some guy
Right...about my RBA problem, I thought you still had to do the backflip/sidehop thing when you had the bottle on B, which of course made me do the infinite milk glitch and resulted in me getting the shadow and water medallions. I get it now (I think).
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
btw, with the recent finds, what's the new low% possible in OoT?
would it be the same as the any%? it looks very similar to it atm.

an interesting fact is that now the new speedrun will be a 3 heart challenge run by default.
Catchin' them all
YES! I made it! Cheesy

But I had Deku Sticks so I have to reset. Sad

Lol. What version do you have? I have the Wii version and had the same problem and I was able to pull out sticks with adult link. I guess all N64 versions can't do that.

Oh well, I emptied my Deku Sticks amount, saved, then went back to it and got it on the second try! Cheesy Saved after all the cutscenes.

I have both versions but I'm playing mostly on the Cube version.

Okay, so I'm up to getting Cojiro and stuff, how the fuck do I cut grass to get refills? =/

It should be pretty close.  By my count:
-Kokiri Sword
-Deku Shield
-Bottle
-Adult Trading Items (do these count as more than 1?  I count this as 1 total)
-Light Arrows
-Shadow Medallion
-Spirit Medallion

Those are pretty much given.  On top of that, you'll need:
-A way to Gerudo Valley
-A way to hold (an) arrow(s)
-A way to the fishing pond
-A way to hurt Ganon
-A way to get Magic

The Hookshot works for 3 of those, so it's probably in.  If you have to ISG to do the bridge skip, then you'll also need the Hylian Shield.

For arrows, you can go two ways.  Either RBA for Quiver and Bomb Bag, or get the Golden Scale and Ruto's Bottle (and RBA for arrows).  Getting the quiver sounds easier.

As for songs, you could either RBA for the Lullaby and Nocturne, or learn the Lullaby normally and get the Letter.  I don't know if getting Magic is possible as an adult without Bombs.  If not, you'll need the Letter.  I didn't count the Scarecrow's song, since it doesn't show up in your inventory.

I think the only notable difference is that you would skip Bombs in low%.  Looks pretty much the same otherwise.
