I like your creative use of the Burn spell. I didn't see any glaring improvements, but I haven't played Nox for over 5 years now. Nice work.
Also super interested, I used to get thrashed at the multiplayer game and it's fascinating to see it disassembled like this.
Yes, I'm a wizard.
Ok, chapter 5 done and uploaded. Next up is Horrendous and his warrior bros, gonna use Jape's lava walking glitch because why not. Might take quite a few tries because I need a minimum of 6 fireballs to kill Horrendous, which makes the quick kill a bit tricky.
Might be magic...
I'm watching your progress on Youtube - really nice so far Smiley
Yes, I'm a wizard.
Only final boss left now, time so far is around 37½ minutes and hecubah should be under 1 minute so it's gonna be a sub 40 total time, get hype.

Ok, run is finished, final time by my count is 38:51, 15 segments. Was there a time penalty for each segment though?
For now you can view the speedrun here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhlFHhHlXbcFNe8NDU6MYhOGIrkcab5hL

Wow, that's a pretty awesome improvement from your last Wizard run (53:14)... nice job Smiley
Penalty is 0,5 seconds per segment, so +7,5 seconds.

Wow, I didnt know this is still going. I am currently running Nox Conjurer with some skips I found. Similar to how you use the push traps to skip the purple lasers, you can get through certain doors and even the lasers by dropping a high quantity of items on top of yourself. I'm getting more solid at the skips, except the purple lasers -- it seems completely random whether you can make it. Its still worth it, as doing the rooms for the 2 skull keys take ages and those flying Gargoyles are such a pain. You can skip almost any gate that needs to be unlocked, those big double doors and some obstacles. "Solid" doors get you stuck in them.

My current record of Single segment 1:22:22 (which is reaaally horrible, I ran out of arrows in the very last room before you get the Staff of Oblivion and accidentally bought a tunic I didnt need. I also died like 15 or 20 times in the Wizards Tower, because Imps kill you easily in one hit. I also have trouble picking up items..) is currently getting compressed and I will upload it to youtube once done (and edit the link in here or make a new post).

Sub 1 hour is definitely possible with no/low deaths.

Yes, I'm a wizard.
Great to see that someone else is running this as well. I watched your entire run and I love the way you skip doors with apples. I did a conjurer practice run myself and I think I found out how the trick works; the more items you drop and the closer to the center of your character you drop them, the faster you get launched in the opposite direction.
I was able to get the chapter 2 door and both ogre doors with very high success rate by dropping 8 or 9 apples etc as close to the center as possible (1 or 2 pixels away from the center).

The double laser wall trick is a bit harder because your hitbox isn't allowed to touch either of them for even 1 frame (wizard gets around this with force shield so he doesn't have to make the trick frame perfect). I found that you want to drop 9 items and minimum distance when dropping the items to minimize the chance of your hitbox being over a laser on any given frame. If you still hit the lasers you might want to move your character closer or further away and try again with the same speed.

Some general tips:
After watching your run I have to say that you kill way too many enemies and rely your bow way too much. Because of the way experience is rewarded, you can run past 95% of the enemies and still be like level 6-7 at the end.
Don't be afraid of taking a second to recharge your mana by standing next to mana crystals, if it allows you to regain the time you lose by doing so.

Try to use the original unpatched version of Nox if possible, since that allows all of the classes to use some helpful gitches. Wizard can cast various spells without interrupting others, such as casting lightning without dropping reflective shield.
Warriors and conjurers get the weapon swap animation cancel glitch; this allows warriors to stop charging at will by hitting the weapon swap key and conjurers can move right after shooting with a crossbow by hitting swap weapon while reloading.

You can skip level up animations most of the time by hitting F2 (quicksave) then immediately F4 (quickload).

Chapter 4:
You should open one of the sarcophagi and pick up some arrows of numbing (stun effect). Use those to kill the warrior boss in the same chapter by shooting a stunning arrow at him and then placing a burn underneath him, then repeating that process until he dies. If you've seen my wizard run, you can use the same strategy to kill the mage boss in chapter 4 because conjurers also have burn.

Chapter 5: Grab more stunning arrows from the sarcophagus just as the chapter starts. You can skip killing almost all of the ogres in this chapter, simply running past most enemies works as they usually lose interest in you pretty fast. Just clear the areas near the 2 doors so you have time to do the door tricks.

Chapter 7: Since you mentioned safe strats for wizard tower: Level 1 stun might suffice for the entire game, you get it for free in the wizard tower and you can probably do without it until then. You could instead buy some headgear and then grab fire resist shoes + tunic from inside the tower. Grab the crossbow as well, use it against golems and beholders later in the game. Stack up on mana potions because meteor is great against the fireball throwing imps. In the end of the chapter before hecubah appears with her 2 ogre lord minions, you can place a couple of burn spells on the spots where the ogres spawn to make the "cutscene" go faster.

Chapter 8: If you need to, you can kill the beholders with 1 crossbow bolt + meteor. crossbow + meteor might also be faster at killing the 2 stone golems.
.
Will you be redoing the Ogre Village segments in your Wizard run with the apple bump trick? Would it even save time since you have access to Swap Location?

Yes, I'm a wizard.
No. A quickly performed apple bump is faster than luring the ogress and using swap location, but the door area would have to be clear of enemies (or I'd have to be really fast at inventory management). Also I don't have a stack of 9 items at my disposal at that point and I am quite low on money at all points in the run. Maybe in future wizard runs.

BUT after I wrote my last post I decided to try a conjurer SS run myself and got around 58 mins:

Currently uploading, will take ~350 minutes. A couple of deaths, got lost a few times.

Wow, beast. I'll watch your run and change my route. Yeah, this is like the first full run I ever did and before that I just casually played and tried out some stuff. It doesnt have to be apples, but you can get those everywhere. Youre right, I should ignore more enemies. I'm curious how you handle the wizards tower, I'm having so much trouble with the fire imp. I didnt know about the crossbow things, I'll have to get the unpatched version then. That would help with both ammo count and some really annoying enemies. I'm not sure if I tried to skip every single door and I never tried to skip the blue Walls or cutscenes, might be worth looking into that.
Yes, I'm a wizard.
So I'm watching my run and taking notes.

1st -> 3rd chapter I was slow, I didn't pick up enough apples or money and I derped around in the mines, your chapter 1-2 route is pretty optimal.

Chapter 4 feels like there's a lot of hidden potential for apple bump, just need to test it everywhere. I picked up the fireball staff in chapter 4 but I never found a use for it, I'd probably sell it to make sure I had over 3000 gold by the start of chapter 6 (meteor book).

Should probably try to kill more of the skeletons in chapter 6 with meteors when they're all bunched up together for fast exp, I felt like I wasn't killing imps in 1 hit with neither bow or meteor at the start of the wizard tower and it might have been because of low level.
I was confused in chapter 5 and 6 when levers and doors were in different places than in the wizard campaign '-';

Start of chapter 7, should probably check and see which merchant gives the best price for all that warrior armor and sell it to him. My shopping list would be: Boots of haste, fire resist hat, leggings, bracers. Resist fire spellbook so that it's level 2 before the first imps, bunch of arrows. Fire resist boots + tunic obtainable in the wizards tower but only after facing some imps, so buying a fire resist tunic would be one option, also it gives higher fire resist than the one you find.
The crossbow you find in the wizard tower is probably the only one you want to use since it doesn't have knockback; allows you to spam burn & crossbow bolts against liches.

chapter 8: nothing worthwhile in the shop, just repair + bolts. I used an apple bump to skip talking to the conjurer but I'm not sure it saved time since I was low on apples etc, and talking to him only takes like 5 seconds.
Fastest way to break the boulders is probably 1 crossbow bolt while approaching, cancel reload animation and spam meteors + hit it with halberd when you reach it. might have to skip meteors if you need to conserve mana.
I'd skip getting the protect from shock book, didn't end up using it.
I dealt with one of the beholder + summoning circle rooms poorly, and I messed up the stone golem fight.

chapter 9: you can use crossbow bolts instead of burn to kill the plants quicker. Dryads can be killed easily with crossbow + burn. Actually, that same strategy works against liches and also Hecubah to some extent; if you stand still at medium range, they will often also stand still and just spam spells, and you can use that to your advantage by spamming burn + high damage attacks that are hard to hit vs a moving target.
I chose not to get jandor's crossbow since the one you find earlier is better vs stationary targets. I also screwed up the 3x necro battle, you're supposed to kill them so fast that you have to wait for the lich to spawn.

chapter 10: Uou can see there how I succeed in the laser apple bump after taking half a step away from it and trying it again with same amount of apples etc.
Went back to pick up the force of nature staff to try it out, didn't seem to be a good idea, got shitty laser pattern because of it too.
After I got the staff of oblivion, I cast vampirism on myself (only place where it's really useful imo).

Hecubah: spam burn + oblivion staff ->  GG.

I found an interesting glitch, but no idea why or how it happened. I just started a Conjurer run and the very first elevator you have to take, right after the bear gets crushed, was already lowered. I could drop down and the switch only made it go back up. Not sure if that was just a one-off quirk or it could be triggered in some other areas.

Seems like when you load the autosave the game creates in that area, the elevator stays down. Interesting .. Not sure if it actually saves time?
Also you only need 2 apples to get to Chapter 3. Its probably better to find out if theres apples in Chapter 1 you can quickly pickup.
.
Is it possible to apple bump through the back door of the temple in Chapter 8 and skip the whole thing?
uhh
You mean the gate? Yeah, you can, but the Elevator stays up and you can't fall down.
Just a question, since I've never played conj - does it have burn normally?
Yes, I'm a wizard.
What do you mean by "normally"? A lot of spells are shared between wizard and conjurer like burn, blink and lesser heal. You just have to find or buy every spell in the form of a spellbook first in the single player campaigns. Warriors get their skills for free at level ups.

Btw shyo, I can't thank you enough for the apple bump, I've found 3 major skips while planning warrior route already.
By normally, I meant outside the campaign; I thought burn was wiz only and it might've been granted to the conj just for the campaign.

I'll get back to more runs/improvements this weekend. Glad you found more use for it. Warrior is actually where I first tried to apply it, but the skips I found (i assume theyre the same you found) left me severely underleveled and with no items, so I scratched that and went over to conjurer where I found the skip to chapter 2 in like 5 minutes. Maybe you should focus on Warrior first, you're pretty good at the game Tongue (Finally got around to watching your Wizard run). I feel like I'll never be happy with myself unless I do a segmented run or get perfect at picking up items. Its so discouraging and looks so stupid if you spend like 3 seconds whacking away at the air.

The main spells Wizard has over Conjurer (that get used in the run) are Haste, Swap Location, Invsibility and Force Field. Wall gets used.. once?, but outside of that everything else is either shared or similar enough.

Outside of the Campaign Conjurer only gets Force of Nature as a spell. Unless its some super hidden secret nobody found yet.

Also I'd appreciate if more people get into it or try out to skip stuff in the weirdest places. I have a feeling it is possible to get through the blue walls, because theres this:

Check out the stuff at 2:50, too. I tried that in a couple of places but I think Quest uses the Multiplayer rules which make some changes to the engine. If we could figure out how to get those fireballs stuck in the walls, that would be a whole nother thing. First place to try it out would be the laser room right before the Staff of Oblivion.

Yes, I'm a wizard.
Did a practice run of warrior and being underleveled wasn't a problem until wizard tower where the last 3 wizards 1-shot with a fireball from full health, and I had fire resist shoes. After wizard tower it was pretty easy again. Shurikens are strong early on so I think I should stock up on those + potions + apples early on. Need to check all shops for fire resist gear for the wizard tower too. Getting an early greatsword would be awesome for the sick blocking ability, but I only found 1 before wizard tower (at ogre chapter, have only 3,5k money and would need over 6k).

Also, after watching that video you linked I realized that wizard might not even need the push spell since I could just try fireball trap through the death rays. Need to do more testing.

edit: So this just happened:

Success rate for that so far is 8 out of 10 times. Fuck apple bump on that door, fireball overpowered.

So yeah, I can't find any apple bump places in the entire wizard campaign. The ogress skip was the 1 place it might have been faster but as I was trying to kill the ogre in order to do the apple bump, I bumped myself through the door with a fireball instead.

Nice! I'll have to try if the Fireball Staff does similar things.

Not wanting to spam this topic too much with small stuff: Loading a savegame seems to reset your Quivers or something. I wanted to make an autosave before the Warrior boss in Chapter 3, but everytime I load he unequips the numbness quivers for normal ones.

Ok so when I said somewhere that I was done with the wizard segmented category, I lied.
I'll move on to warrior after this one, I promise Tongue
I'll be uploading the run here when it's done:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhlFHhHlXbcF-eaIKGJq928Ck7UY5DRcm
Currently at Horrendous.
Improvements this time: Using swap position in certain places to get around faster, not getting the push spellbook since the lasers can be skipped with fireballs, using the fireball ogre skip shown in the video above, sucking less.

Oh yeah, I also found out that you can apple bump to skip killing the necromancer in chapter 4, but in a wizard run, selling your shoes and buying 5 apples will cost so much time that it's not worth doing because you'll be level 2 at the end of the chapter, and you only save like 1 second doing so. Might be worth doing in a warrior / conjurer run?

So I did some more changes to my Conjurer route. I dont think Meteor 2 is worth it. You cant get Boots of Haste and Lesser Heal 2 and you might be a couple of gold short of getting additional quivers and pots before Horrendus (unless I missed an additional 1000 gold soemwhere?) . So instead I now buy Fire Resist 1 before the Tower and Inversion Counterspell and ignore all the Beholders. Tower can easily be done deathless, it just requires some huge luck in Floor 2 and really fast reflexes to snipe and stun Imps. The Crossbow pickup is worth it though, just need to get better with it. It also helps a bunch in Chapter 9 and 10.

In Horrendus Room its optimal to pick up all Helmets, Boots, Wrists and Legpieces. If you sell them all to the guy that has a bunch of Quivers you get about 11k. At the end I still had around 1500 in Chapter 10 and I made sure to buy as many potions, healing items and (normal) quivers as possible. Also for some reason I wrote down that theres Boots of Haste 2 in Chapter 7, but I cant find them anywhere to buy, lol.
Boots of Haste 2 are sold by some lonely guy in the southern part of the town.
Of course. More improvements! Fireball Staff works just as fine for the gate skips in the Orc Village as it does for the Wizard. I had more success with the Wolves than the female Orcs for the first gate, though. Not sure if its hitboxes or just how you position yourself relevant to them. I think that will be the only place where it will be used, besides the Wizard Tower where it *could* save some time. Theres a door on Floor 5 where you need to grab a ruby key. I'll test out soon if you can manipulate one of the imps to stop throwing Fireballs and lure him near so you can skip getting the key (which might only take a few seconds but theres a bout 3 or 4 imps you have to take care of to get the key).

It might save time in the Temple of Ix, but I cant remember if theres an enemy you can lure to the door to use.

Oh, I found something new in general. You dotn have to save and load to skip level up animations, pressing F4 and canceling is enough already.

My current record is 1:01:59 btw, with a HORRIBLE chapter 7. If everything goes as good as possible (or if the run would be segmented) I could get a sub 55:00 for sure.
