You killed Hecubah pretty fast. Overall, the speedrun is really good. One thing to improved tho would be the 2nd segment of Chapter 2 (Part2). You waste too much time trying to kill all the monster with the deadly rays. It makes it sound like you're taking your sweet time. It would good if you could improve that only segment, it makes decrease the average of the quality of the speedrun IMO. It's your call.
Good job on it. You were pretty fast at doing it too. I'm impressed. I'm nowhere near that speed on speedrun (I redo segments way too much and I'm very hard on myself on every little mistake I can make.)

You mean chapter 10 part 2? Yeah, after examining my run, there's 3 things on my list of improvements: chapter 6 and 10, segments 2 and 3 . I'll try to use swap location to get the mechanical golems into the death rays faster. I realize it looks a bit bad from a speedrunning standpoint, but sometimes the only thing you can do against those death rays is wait patiently.

I'd say that's a good quality, the 2 sample runs I saw from you were very polished, and I enjoyed watching them alot. I think my runs might look a bit like they lack polish, partly because I'm not as hard on myself on every little mistake, but also because the wizard has to have that mana to survive, so it looks like I'm taking my time while I'm recharging mana etc. But I will admit to not using potions nearly enough in some situations. Anyway, I really hope that you can get recording to work on vista. Best of luck on finishing your run.
Okay, so I just improved my 2nd and 3rd chapter 10 segments, but I have a question: I ended up with 2 healing potions less than on my previous run. So, am I allowed to use my old chapter 11 run? I don't go below 6 healing potions in that run, so if I had the resources of my improved chapter 10 run, I'd end up with 4 spare potions at the end of the game anyway. edit: also, a couple of health points less, but I tested that it's such a small difference that the robe of regeneration that my wizard has equipped will heal him to full health before the fight starts.
Pjoxt: Great run! I just watched it, and it was really entertaining. Btw, i totally forgot how the guy casts spells in this game, though that crazy rap was the best part in the game, ha-ha. I also hope that RealityO can record the other run, it would be great to see two runs of this game at the same time.
Heyyy... wait.. i don't know you. Don't confuse me
Even if the pots and HP are of minimal difference, it isn't the same. For example, the FF8 run was rejected because of a similar inconsistence. Better to give it another try while you're still in it, instead of waiting for a response. Just have to Agree with Warepire
I just tried recording with Camtasia... It doesn't work. I can play at full framerate now while recording, but the video that is captured is like 2-3fps. I've tried setting a static FPS for the video (30 and 60) but it still won't do it. Next thing I have to try is to set my desktop back to 1 screen (I'm running a dual screen). I'll try to set the compatibility of the exe to XP but I don't think it will change anything. I'd need an external recording I think..

Oh yeah, about compatibility mode: I don't know how this is in vista, but in order to get nox working on XP, you have to set it to windows NT compatibility mode. Also, what codec did you try recording with in camtasia? I used the DivX codec (2 logical cpus). The camtasia default recording codec is bad for recording games.
Ok so I changed the Codec and it seems to get better. I'll try more stuff but I guess I might be able to make it work. But I'm not used to the controls anymore. Will take some time before I can record quality stuff.
Hey Pjoxt, great run. Nice video-quality too. It was entertaining to watch even though I don't know the game from before. It seemed you forgot about the potions, or was it just to hard to keep track of everything at once?

So.... DivX (2 logical cpus) at how many FPS? (I've tried 30 and 60, 60 won't work, 30 the video is skipping). Do you save to .camrec or to .avi? I was still at .camrec, I'll try again with AVI. I'm doing it at 800x600 too, I might try to go to 640x480 if I cannot fix it.
Edit: Still can't record without frameskips/visual glitches. Even at 640x480. I'm not sure what's wrong but it just won't do it. When I play, everything is fine, it's only the output that is crappy. Anyway, if I'm able to record, I'm restarting from the beginning. My saves are all messed up and I don't want to get caught in Non-continuty.

Yeah that's one of the things i'll focus on improving in future runs; better usage of potions. But mostly I just wanted to have around 8-9 of both mana and healing potions by the beginning of chapter 10, because that's where most of them are spent.

I just checked with fraps fps meter that Nox should run only at 40 fps, so there's no reason to record at 60 fps. I recorded with camtasia at 20 fps after playing around with the settings, since it worked best for me. We should now have approximately the same settings, but try recording at 20 fps as well. If that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas :/

There. I guess I can record. But it's lagging really hard in the menu ( I don't think it's a big deal) and there's a random 2 second lag at some point.. Hope it won't do that too often.

Glad to hear it you got it working, and I hope the lagging won't prevent you from finishing your run. If you're lagging really bad in the menu, try to avoid going back to it between attempts (continue to record even if you die, and just cut out the failed attempts later). Good luck on your run.
As an update for the interested, I'm at chapter 5 now. I've done the first half of it (in a segment) and the second half will be another segment. But it must be one of the worst segment I have to do. You have to escort 4 villager back to the village and the ogre can kill them. And there's a loooot of ogres. So I have to find a way to kill most of them without appearing to lose my time (charge one shot kill them but it's not enough, and they're hard to kill without being hit too much). Anyway we'll see how it goes. I'm not feeling like doing that tonight.
When will there be videos? I am really excited that you picked this back up. Hopefully this will be as good as the wizard run, even with the absence of obvious sequence breaks.
I'm not sure for the videos. I was thinking of waiting for the SDA release. As for the sequence break, I found a small one in chapter 8 which can only be done with boots of speed. Found that by luck and it's really easy to do.
I might release one or two more segments sometimes but for now I'm going for text updates only. Anyway I'm at chapter 6 now. I miss calculated my shurikens in my v2 of the run (the first one, I had too much so I decided to pick up less in this one). I have 15 left for chapter 6 (which is about what I'll use). And I need maybe 30-40 more for Chapter 8. Not sure about chapter 10 but I'll find an alternative.
My 2nd half of chapter 2 went pretty well even tho I use a lot of healing potions. I'm at 3 right now so I'll have to buy some or find some that are close to the main route in chests/barrels.
For chapter 10 you get a chakrum or w/e from a chest with fire and collision, I abused the hell out of it with my casual warrior run.
I tried to aim for the mana pylons or w/e they're called so it bounces back and forth off of the lich enemies really fast, killing them nearly instantly.
I really liked using the chakrum in my own casual warrior run, but I'm not sure if it's such a good weapon to use in a speedrun due to the way it behaves. Sometimes it hits the target you want it to, and then flies away and it doesn't return to you, and then you misplace it and spend a minute looking for the damn thing. Anyway, hope you enjoy recording chapter 10 as much as I did!
I'm releasing a video like Pjoxt about deaths. This is half of my segment tries at my chapter 7 2nd part segment. (At first it was only one segment, but I would have gone crazy doing the first part over and over for the level 4 in that mage tower. I was about to give up when I finally succeeded. I did a really quick job at editing (mostly cutting out the Menu between each deaths.) so it's really possible it cuts badly between 2 tries.
Don't tell me Speedrunning isn't a sport or it's easy. This mage tower is just unreal when you're under leveled. So many mages casting different spells at you, some which kill you in one hit if you're not full HP.
(Video still processing at the time of the post.
This makes me afraid of Chapter 10. Hope it won't be that bad. I think I will have to segment it a lot so I don't go crazy, or worse, never finish the run.

All I can say after watching that video is Ouch. The worst part of that place is that even if you silence the mages with warcry, most of them can still shoot fireballs out of their staves. I have no idea how I would have finished that level without a greatsword / shield, but I can imagine it would be hard to get a greatsword at that stage in a speedrun. Anyway, keep up the good work.
Nice runs, Pjoxt and RealityO! Watching them finally made me buy and play Nox, and ehhh, I'm kind of "noxicated" now (besides my "Diablo 2ication")... Looking forward to the SDA updates with them.

Glad you liked it. Actually, I found a few new tricks for chapter 10, and I plan on rerunning everything from the start, trying to improve my first run. I did a test run today and found that I didn't really need shock that much, and decided to skip the first haste book, and just go with level 1 haste from chapter 5, which would save me the time it took to collect that ~4000 gold. Also, not repairing any armor (will probably be naked by the time I face Hecubah) since I found that forcefield is enough to keep you alive most of the time (even though you take like 2x damage), so on the route I've planned I'll only be stopping by a shop once to buy reflective shield.
