woops
The new Ninja Gaiden (SMS) WR is 24:03 (PAL), which equals to about 20:02 (NTSC), beating talbot1939's run by about 1 minute 14 seconds.

Here it is, please excuse the poor audio quality and the excessive norwegian cursing.

There's a lot of small mistakes, so I figure I can beat the time by about 1 minute with really, really good luck and execution.

I'm pretty sure I'll keep improving on this run.
For the record, I start the timer when I hit start at the menu screen, and I split when the boss fades out. Is this legit?
Totally rad
SDA timing would start as soon as you gain control over the character, and end as soon as you lose control. Starting at the start menu isn't too big of a difference.
Congrats on the new time, by the way!

Comparing to SDA timing, I'm starting the timer early, and stopping it late, so there should only be a discrepancy of about 2-3 seconds (5 second startup, 8 second boss explosion).
Just completed a run finishing at 23:58,13, and I died twice.. I think I can get a low low 23 pretty soon.
The second to last scroll before the boss on chapter 4 contains Homing Shot, if you got infinite ninpo by then (which is pretty easy), you'll wreck the boss easily in one cycle, saving a fair deal of time.
Sorry for spaming the thread, but I improved the run today. The new WR is 23:26,34, but again I died twice. So I'm sure now that sub 23 is possible, and well within my reach.
I'll get you a satanic mechanic.
i got my Sega master system yesterday Smiley and ninja gaiden is coming my way aswell.
So im going to practice this game soon.

But first I need to mod the sega with a 50/60 hz switch and ill also mod it for a normal component cable.
Hopefully i wont kill it Smiley
Cool! I can't wait for the competition and the races Smiley

Deathless, FINALLY! 22:38,29 (PAL) is my new PB/WR. Still made lots of small mistakes, so the time can go down even further, but probably by not more than 10-15 seconds.

Just discovered that with well-timed Homing Shots on the chapter 6 boss, you can get in 3 shots per cycle. That should save some time. It isn't easy though.

After a tiny amount of testing, it seems to be close to frame perfect. I'll try more, and see if there's any easy references you can use to get this consistently.
I'll get you a satanic mechanic.
Your doing great Rasmus Smiley
Hope i can soon join you

Sub 22 is possible. Got a 22:14.39 (PAL) just now, and I lost atleast 15 seconds throughout the run. It was by no means a good run, just played less safe on chapter 7, saving me 26 seconds from my previous PB.

Here's the run:
The chapter 6 boss is hitable when he's off screen if you use the Homing Shot. So I'm guessing atleast another 10 seconds can be saved there, if not more.

Ok, so I'm doing some offstream practice (recording it of course), and when I finally say: "fuck it, I'm doing an no-reset run", I get a 21:52..

I can save 6 seconds on chapter 1, atleast another 6 on chapter 2. 3 or 4 seconds on chapter 3. Chapter 4 was pretty good even though I had to use big shuriken-strats because I lost fire wheel on the first screen, so maybe a couple of seconds there to be saved. Chapter 5 went ok, can save 2-3 seconds there. Chapter 6 went pretty good with minor mistakes, and the new boss strats saved me 22 seconds. Chapter 7 went awfully, and I almost died, so I can probably save up to 10 seconds on it.

As you can see, there's a lot of time to chip of still, and I'm going to keep working hard on it. I'm thinking 21:30 is obtainable now at the very least.

Here it is:
My splits don't lie, I just beat my PB with 42 seconds. The new time is 21:09 (PAL). Better execution and better boss fights almost all over made this possible.

The funny thing is that I can still beat this time by atleast 10-15 seconds, but I've been saying that every new PB, but this time I'm pretty sure it won't be much more than that.

Here it is:
I finally checked my best splits, and added them up, and it seems like 20:40 (PAL) is possible with a perfect run of the current strats. So I guess that's my current goal, getting as close as possible to that time.

I'll might get my NTSC Master System up and running by the end of the week, meaning I'll start playing on that instead, so unless I get a really good run soon, the 21:09 will stand as the PAL record.
20:40 (PAL) equals to around 17:10 (NTSC), so that will be my goal.

Finally got my NTSC Master System up and running with a working recording/streaming setup. After three completed runs, I got a time of 18:38, which I guess is the new WR, eventhough it equals to around 22:30 (PAL). I'll keep running, and I'm pretty sure I'll get sub 18 pretty soon, and as mentioned in my previous post, my ultimate goal will be 17:10.

I don't know why, but I decided to upload the 18:38 run, here it is:
Got an 18:05 (NTSC) today, but it was really bad. I'll upload the first sub 18 I get.
A slight route alteration will let you get infinite ninpo by the end of chapter 3, instead of the start of chapter 4, and doing so it might make the chapter 3 boss a little bit easier (though I doubt it). The only change is picking up the second scroll on the last screen of chapter 1. It's kinda tricky, but kinda not, so I don't know why I didn't think of it before. If it doesn't change the chapter 3 boss fight, it will only save a couple of frames. More testing will be done.
I got a 17:45 today, but I died once, so I won't bother uploading it. A sub 17:30 is imminent.

I've revised the route alteration I mentioned in the last post, and found out that getting infinite ninpo by the end of chapter 3 doesn't save any time, but getting that extra 50 from chapter 1 allows me to just plow through the two last jumping samurai guys at the end of chapter 3 (whom more often than not, are unfriendly when it comes down to RNG), which doesn't really save any time, but lowers the risk of losing time. Once I get more comfortable playing a riskier route, and just want to save all the frames I can get, this route alteration will let me skip one scroll on chapter 3, saving me just a frame or two.

My best splits adds up to a 17:02 now, so I'm thinking sub 17 might be possible with a near-perfect run. I'll keep grinding at it, but current goal is to get that sub 17:30, technically beating the PAL record.

Oh and by the way, if you're considering running this game, please do, and don't hesitate asking me for tips or help.
17:23

I can still get it lower. I will get it lower.

Here's the run:

Back to the grind.

Got it! Finally got a decent run! After only 1253 attempts of the NTSC version.

17:08 is the new world record!

It has a lot of small mistakes in it, but no serious big mistakes. On the way of getting this time, I've improved my best splits by a lot, so a perfect run would be around 16:47. I'm setting my new goal to sub 17, but I might put any% aside for a little bit, and play around with pacifist%. I've done a couple of pacifist runs already, and my best time there is around 27 minutes.

Anyways, here's the run for your viewing pleasure, just be sure to ignore the small mistakes I do, and make sure you notice my near perfect fourth screen of chapter 6 (lava stage).
