What is the current world record?
Is there any known tricks/glitch/exploits in the game?

Any info/help is appreciated.

No WR exist yet, the Master System version doesn't get the same love as the NES trilogy.

There is a speed run of it, but it is a Tool Assisted Run.

Despite being only released in Europe the TAS run was done at NTSC speeds (so playing it on a US/Pal 60hz modded Master System should be fine).

Bombs - pressing buttons 1 & 2 simultaneously unleashes a bomb that kills all enemies or does 1 dmg to a boss and takes about 6 health points away from the character. It also does damage regardless if the boss is its invulnerable state. I can use this to land 2 quick hits. So I save enough health for the bosses as that is when the bombs are most profitable.

Stage 6 boss can be hit twice per cycle but it's pretty risky as well because you'll probably going to get hit and then get knocked back down into the pit and die.
Thanks man, this helps out a lot.
Talbot1939 has a run that clocks in at approximately 21:16 with NTSC speeds. Even though it's probably on an emulator, I'm counting this run as the standing WR.

So being a PAL player, I need to complete the game in around 25:50 to get the WR.
All the things
Some of the folks at SGDQ were playing around with this game; seemed like pretty fun stuff. Duckfist found that if you reach 999 Ninpo it never goes down again. Could be useful if you build up a route around it, but it may not be time optimal. I'm sure adelikat knew about it too, but never had a reason to go for it.
Yeah, I've gotten the ninpo overflow-glitch recently, but at the moment it doesn't really seem time optimal.

so pro u don't even know
Hype for this. The  boss fights are really dumb, but the stages/platforming/weapons are very cool.
I'm also in, i recently played this game a lot. I've never concidered turning my casual ninja gaiden gaming into speedrun, but why not after all. I'll see what time i can catch !

The boss of level 3 (samurai in kendo) seems to be glitching into the wall on the TAS video. I asked adelikat if he remember how to do that, unfortunately he don't.

Some of you may have an idea ?

If you just jump above him from behind, this triggers him to think that you're in front of him, and he'll keep going forwards. Be careful though, as he will get stuck once he gets through the wall, and there's no way of getting him out of there, atleast not that I know of.
Thanks, i'll try to trigger that.
If there's a way to get him stuck in the wall, while still being able to hit him, it would probably end up saving some time.
Yeap that's what i've got on my mind.
I managed to sort of clip out of bounds or go invisible/invincible on chapter 2 by falling down on the first set of crates, and being knocked back by the cameraman there. I could continue throughout the level, and the enemies seem to go for an invisible me, without me losing any health. I got all the way to the elevator shaft before I couldn't go on, and that was only because I couldn't wall jump proper without seeing Ryu.

I've not been able to reproduce it yet.
Totally rad
In all honesty, I'd be surprised if infinite ninpo were not worth it for this run. It speeds up the ice, lava and castle stages very considerably as spikes, enemies and lava are no longer an issue. I'm picking this game up (casually) for now and will report whatever I find.

The way I see it, you rarely need more than 3-400 ninpo per chapter to manage through everything using the fire wheel, and considering the amount of ninpo you get from scrolls throughout every chapter, plus the 200 you get at the start off every chapter, I think the ninpo overflow glitch is unnecessary, or just a luxury at that. I'm not ruling it out though.

For those who're interested in where the competition stands, I got a PB of 27:20 (PAL) now. Once I get my streaming setup together, I'll be up for races and the likes.
Totally rad
3-400 per stage sounds quite low. I found it very useful for huge portions of the stages. Consider for instance all the enemies with 2hp - slashing them would be a huge pain and slower than running through them with the firewheel. It's easy to get enough ninpo in the first 3 stages for infinite fire wheel.

Anyway, it's something worth testing for sure.
Yeah, constant fire wheel makes chapter 5, 6 and 7 really easy and quick, but the trouble I'm having with those chapters, is that it's too easy to lose the fire wheel. There's a lot of finicky timing needed to keep the fire wheel throughout the game, and still be constantly moving forwards.
difficult and stupidly random
I also agree that infinite ninpo is probably your best bet for this run.  Even ignoring the fact that infinite firewheel is going to make all the platforming sections way better, there are several bosses that go SO much faster when you can just spam the Homing Shot.  I think those bosses will more than make up for the tiny amount of time you spend in the first few levels to grab a few ninpo that aren't directly on your path.  Also, we had no trouble earning 999 by level 3 (and that's including several uses of the firewheel prior to getting infinite).

And, FWIW, i really doubt that the infinite ninpo is a "glitch".  Given the fact that it isn't overflowing, it's just sitting there at 999, i'd say there's code holding it there intentionally.  In every game i've seen with an overflow/underflow glitch, you'd see out-of-range sprites, nonsensical numbers, or at least some sort of change in what's being displayed every time you add or subtract ninpo.  I'd bet anything this was intentional (not that it really matters)

I'll play around with it today, and try to see how much time you can save on the bosses alone with 999 ninpo and Homing Shot. I can say right away that you save something like one and a half minutes on the chapter 6 boss alone, and atleast 30 seconds on the chapter 4 boss (I might be exaggerating).

Yeah, I agree. I noticed that the demo is running with 999 ninpo, so it seems to be intended for that, aswell as maybe a bonus.
Chapter 6 boss takes about 2 minutes 20 to beat with fire wheel/safe strats, making my estimate about saving around 1 minute 30 with Homing Shot pretty accurate. As for the chapter 4 boss, you can probably save more than 30 seconds with Homing Shot/Four Way Shot.
A good thing to know, thanks Rasmus.
Trading Fire Wheel with Homing Shot on the fifth screen of 6-1 saved me about 1 minute on the complete chapter (Saving 1:30 on the boss, but because of no fire wheel, the platforming took approximately 30 seconds more time). I got a 25:55 (PAL) today, but it wasn't really a good run. Can gain atleast a minute on it.
I got the run today. An unofficial time of 25:06.11 (PAL), beating talbot1939s 21:16 (NTSC) run. Once I get my dazzle I'll start streaming and recording my runs. I died 3 times in my 25:06, so I can improve the run by atleast 30 seconds.
Nice jobs, i hope my G3 will be at home really soon, so we can do some races.
Yeeeeah.. Picking up the large shuriken on the first screen of chapter 4 makes getting 999 ninpo pretty easy, without losing alot of time. Having 999 ninpo and Homing Shot saves probably 30 seconds to a minute on the three last bosses. So I'm going to have to swallow all my scepticism and admit that 999 ninpo is a good timesaver, over all.
