Lord Of The Beards
Naegleria's thread got locked so I am remaking so discussion can actually happen for the event.

WHAT: A speedrun marathon with its primary goal being to promote speedrunning and fun. For the first marathon, it might be best if its done on a small scale (less than 50 people).  Essentially it is going to be closer to an ESA style event compared to the charity driven GDQs.

WHERE: Chicago.

WHEN: May of 2016.

I made some forms to get info for the event about those interested:

Game Submissions now live

I will probably keep this updated with any info but here is where the info will most likely be put first by the organizers.

game submissions are now live, will give a better idea of how long the marathon should run

FYI there's also a thread here about this marathon, which is more active at the moment so feel free to post there too/instead - http://www.speedrun.com/nasa/thread/jumdp
So it's likely going to be the Hampton Inn Suites and Addison, but there is a small chance it's the Radisson Chicago O Hare.

Here is the gist:

Hampton has a 1430 Sq. ft meeting room at $700 per day with 24-hour access.
$500 per day for 7am to 10pm access. Hampton has an upload speed of up to 8 megabits per second up according to the hotel rep. But the meeting room doesn't have a dedicated internet, so thats a pretty significant downside.

Radisson has two meeting rooms, one is a big 1920 Sq. ft room that can be split into 640 Sq. ft section, two 640 Sq. ft sections is 1280 Sq. ft at $2000 per day at 24-hour access.
The other room is 1058 Sq. ft, I'm expecting a quote on that tomorrow. $2000 per day for the bigger room is pretty far out of the price range I want, so hopefully this second room is a lot cheaper. Both have dedicated internet.

3 full days at Hampton would be $2100, which is $35 split between 60 people. Alternatively we could get 5 or 6 days of 7am to 10pm access at $2500 or $3000 respectively (which would be $41.66 or $50 per person respectively).

Here are some pros cons of 24-hour:
+go play video games anytime of day
+viewers always have somethin to watch
-costs more

Here are some pros cons of non24-hour:
+lets everyone get a dedicated sleeping block, less chance of fucking up everyones sleep schedules
+nobody has to run "graveyard filler" timeslots
+cheaper
-video games have to be played in hotel room during night

What are everyones thoughts on doing 24/7 stream + meeting room, compared to 7 am to 10 pm stream + meeting room?
