Cygher is interested in running this game in the future. Me and Coolkid have been playing it a good bit lately so I figured we could get started posting strats and tricks for a console run.

Here's a speedrun of level one on console that I whipped up today, hope it's useful:

I'll be searching for useful star-ride spots and other strats, will post findings here.
Thread title:
Gimmick's a great game. Any chance of replicating the TAS strategy for stage 2?

Found this "non-TAS" Best Ending run on youtube. It's REALLY good for non-TAS, dunno if I believe it... But it does show some great strats for console use, especially the final boss of stage 6.

Looks legit to me, the hardest stages are definitely 1+2 which are far from impossible to get a perfect run in with enough resets. 3-6 weren't too well executed in some parts. His boat 'escape' looks way more doable than what the TAS does which great after i've been banging my head against wall trying to replicate it.

I've found an article showing that RetroUSB has made a limited run of NTSC compatible Mr.Gimmick

http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=159568

Now judging from the original video, there isn't any text changes (ala translation hack you see in JRPGs normally). The only possible concern is whether the NTSC compatible have faithful load times otherwise it seems very safe to buy one... even though it isn't a 100% Official Seal Of Quality copy.

"This is the real NTSC Mr Gimmick from a previously unreleased prototype cart. All sounds and music have been created for the NTSC system without extra hardware needed. It is not the JP or PAL version."

Unreleased prototype ? Are you sure this will be sda-acceptable ? ^^
There are some rather big differences between the scandinavian and the jp release by the way so if this 3rd party prototype cartridge does get accepted (which would be sort of weird since its pretty much an unreleased pirated game) somebody would have to check which version it's based on.

P.S.: Just to name some differences : some bosses have different patterns, the pal version gives 7 lives instead of 3 and obviously the pal version doesnt have the sunsoft soundchip.
It shouldn't be accepted - it's a repro.
Okay, I really had to go looking for this one! So only the japanese and scandinavian (pal) version should be accepted, the other one you can buy where you buy the power pak should not be an official game. Fine by me, however, that doesint stop you from practicing on emulators until you get an official version of the game and I really want a "Will Hunting" Q/A session with videos on this game to make our efforts better together!

People in here have convinced me that the japanese run is legit but sure fine to find someone els having a hard time accepting that most awesome of runs because it just feel to good to be true, but I have stopped argumenting for it.

So this should become the any questions on Mr. Gimmick! thread and my crazy Mr. Gimmick! thread for 100%?
