Interested in running MonHunGen
I'm not sure if this exists already. Searching the forums for related terms found nothing.
I'm interested in running Any% New Game+, which would start after character creation and end once the dance/credits begin after the Glavenus quest ends. New Game+ lets us use the MH4U data item bonus as well as the DLC item pack starter, which go a long way towards keeping us well stocked on traps, mega dash juice, mega potions, etc. You don't need to set them up at the title screen menu more than once though- each new file made on an SD card after claiming the bonuses will allow you to get the bonuses items from your housekeeper immediately.
I'd love to have some competition, but if not I'm probably gonna still try to get one good recorded run up at some point once I've finished what looks to be a very long routing process. Don't currently have a 3DS with video output capability, nor do I have a Japanese 3DS/MHX which probably makes the text marginally faster. I'll probably be looking into these around the time I finish routing.
My current estimates put it about a 5 hour run, possibly as low as 4 depending on optimization.
I'm not sure what glitches exist for possibly skipping cutscenes/entire quests/diaglogue, so what I'm currently working on routing is basically glitchless. Might be possible to overlap a couple cutscenes involving the palico ranch, I'll look into it at some point.
Avoiding excessive RNG would be key in this run- You won't be grinding for any weapons or armor because that's entirely RNG and a huge time cost. You'd basically be running with the initial weapons/armor until you can upgrade using money/quest rewards, and later buy better ones. Upgrading the existing starting weapons by a level or two seems very doable. This leaves the RNG down to monster attacks (a managable semi-RNG where you account for several possibilities in any situation), minion behavior, and beneficial quest rewards (for example, the first two gathering quests can reward Machalite, 1 Machalite can be used to level up the initial switch axe).
I'm interested in discussing what ideal weapons could be, there's a lot of factors involved and some weapons trade safety for damage output, which isn't necessarily a good idea when the monster attacks are semi-RNG. So far, Aerial Style SA seems pretty amazing, with next to no optimization I can already kill Great Maccao in about 4 minutes with the starter SA; I haven't explored trapping him yet and have only really attempted him a handful of times, so I don't doubt he could be brought down to around 3 minutes. Have not made any progress routing beyond 1/2 star quests, outside of a list of all Key Quests, Urgent Quests, and Pre-requisite quests.
There are 30 Boss monsters to hunt, counting both Khezus in the double hunt. I'm confident many of the 2-3 star monsters (there are 16 of them) can be brought below or near 5 minutes and 4 stars monsters (6 of them) below 10 minutes; 5 star monsters (8 of them) I can't safely estimate for. There are also about a dozen gathering/minion slaying quests, most of which are reasonable in about 1-3 minutes. Ultimately this run will rely on the speed with which the runner can kill a variety of monsters, indicating a lot of IL level grinding would be valuable.
Also worth discussing whether or not "Reuse Data" should qualify for these runs. It could probably still fall under the category of New Game+. Naturally they would be much faster, and might save this run from being more than 4 hours long. On the other hand, it takes away much of the challenge of working with weaker weapons/armor and limited supplies, as you retain much of your Rare3 items and Zenny/Wycademy points.
