I have made a modest first attempt for the first three episodes of Apogee's Monster Bash starring Johnny Dash. I have uploaded them to youtube, and embedded them here:
Episode 1:
1/2:
2/2:
Episode 2:
1/2:
2/2:
Episode 3:
1/4:
2/4:
3/4:
4/4:

By no means perfect runs, but still quite decent for a first try, me likes to think. Episode1 is segmented (and re-sequented), episode2 and episode3 runs are single segment.

Enjoy Smiley

I think using a bug it is possible to cut down on some level times, but this will be extremely hard and quite possible only usable for TAS speedruns. There's a bug which registers an opening of a pet cage twice. I think it is triggered when two stones hit the cage lock within a very small timeframe. This prevents the need to open half the amount of cages in a level, which can be very advantageous for some levels. It happened a few times by accident, in particular when stones bounced of the wall while a second shot hit the lock straight.

Walking through walls is possible in some levels, but not to any time advantage so far my judgement goes.

I did exploit dying such that Johnny is respawned at a pirate flag elsewhere in the level, to cut down on time going back to the pirate flag.

Obscure games ftw
I remember this game.
I also remember I could never beat it.
Throwing some support for this run, and also I'm going to watch the videos now.
Level 2 of the first episode  has it's exit  though a hollow tree you must crawl into. This is a bit confusing, when I first played this game yeeeaaaars ago it took me some time to discover this. Seemingly, I am not the only one: See JonTron's monster bash episode. He simply quit after a while when he could not find the exit of level 2 either. (caution: ads vid)
Wiggle wiggle
It's been a long time, but I seem to recall there being a Big Rock and Triple Shot at the top of the first boss room. Would it not be faster to snag those? Or does it take too long to reach them?

I learned a trick/bug to defeat the big blue boss. It's hard to exploit, but when done right you can quickly defeat the boss. You see it me doing a few times in a short amount of time, where I stand at the same position as the boss's position, and then shoot him. He won't jump away, but walk right left ad infinitum, until the distance with you becomes too great. If you stay close enough, he will keep doing so, and you can repeatedly shoot him until your health runs out. It's hard to explain but I hope you get what I mean. You can see it around the 11:39 mark of the second vid.

Going for the bigrocks might be quick strategy too, especially because you cant shoot him when the level starts.
