Hey all,

Thought some of you may be interested to know that I've just finished off a Modern Warfare 2 speedrun on the Xbox 360 Individual Levels in 1hr 33mins and 46secs. I've started the timer from the moment you get beneficial/full control of your character (E.g. If all you can do is move your head, but not do anything else, I haven't yet started the timer, the Mission 'The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday' is a perfect example of this in action (1:40 of only being able to move your head at the start).

Here's the individual level breakdowns:

Act 1:
SSDD 3:34
Team Player5:48
Cliffhanger 6:38
Takedown 2:16

(Act 1 - 19:16)

Act 2:
Wolverines 9:22
The Hornet's Nest 3:03
Exodus 4:50
The Only Easy Day... 3:16
The Gulag 7:59
Of Their Own Accord 7:24

(Act 2 - 35:54)

Act 3

Contingency 6:03
Second Sun 6:57
Whiskey Hotel 2:56
Loose Ends 9:20
The Enemy of my Enemy 2:21
Just Like Old Times 4:46
Endgame 6:13

(Act 3 - 38:36)

Total Time: 1:33:46

Now, I've recorded this as an exclusive for the UK gaming magazine I do a lot of paid work for (GamesMaster), so - for the first month or so - it'll be exclusively available on that channel. After a month or so, I'll re-encode the full 720p60 videos for SDA and submit it here as well.

You can check out my run at the following channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/GamesMasterMag

I'm in the process of uploading each of the videos, and they're going to take as while (as they're all 720p videos).

If anyone can think of any massive improvements over what I've done (e.g. glitches that I've missed that skip certain triggers etc), then please feel free to chip in! Smiley

Hope you all enjoy!

If you haven't already, you might wanna read through this, it seems like there might be quite a bit of useful info here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php?topic=10924.0

I don't know about any glitches. I know about elevator glitches and multiplayer (never done one nor do I know how to do one) but I'm not sure if they work in single player or not. If they do they might be useful somewhere...

So here are my level comments so far:

SSDD- Before the pit was good, you could've done the pit faster though. You should only need to reload you pistol once through the pit if at all. Use all the ammo in the M9 and then switch to the desert eagle and you should have enough bullets to go through it without even reloading once as long as you're accurate you double hit targets whenever possible (2 targets with 1 bullet). Plus, IIRC, you don't even have to hit all the targets; I just ran through it once (hitting all targets) and on my first try I got 29.xx and your time was 33. (Not counting accuracy bonus and stuff) (also, the best I've done in Spec Ops is 22.6, so you should be able to get sub 30 in this fairly easy.) Other than the pit part, it was really good, but you should be able to shave off ~5 seconds with a really good run. Also, changing your sensitivity to 10 (insane) might help so you can turn faster, as long as you can get used to it.

Team Player- First part looks good to me, and then half of the level is riding in a car. After you get out of the car, you could probably save quite a bit of time running with your pistol out, IIRC you can run much faster while carrying a pistol. Can you unlimited sprint in solo campaign? (sprint, jump, sprint, jump) I know you can in spec ops but not in multiplayer (unless you have marathon of course). That's all I really have to say about that mission. Running this level is probably a bitch though having to sit through that first part.

Cliffhanger- Can you pull your pistol out right away rather than taking out the first two guys with your gun? Also, perhaps you could've angled yourself better after planting the bomb and then heading to the door to meet cpt. whatever his name is, but that's depending on if guards are in your way so I might be wrong about that, plus that wouldn't save much time...Nice snow-mobiling

Takedown- It might be faster to run with your shotgun first, and if it's not possible to get the takedown with the shotgun, then switch to your assault rifle for the shot. Not sure if it's faster or not since you have to switch weapons though. Then just use the shotgun the whole rest of the way. It seems like you don't even need the ACR, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Entertaining run so far. Nice job. Once more segments come up I'll watch and critique them. Smiley I hope you find my comments useful.

Also, I'm trying to gather up some people to do some speedruns for spec ops. Would you be interested? Here's the casual board, most of the times on there aren't perfect but they are pretty good starting points: http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php?topic=10957.0

EDIT: And is it okay to skip the "No Russian" level? Did you talk with Mike about that?

Thanks for the input Smiley

SSDD: Yea it ain't perfect, so I'll look at going back to the ASAP to improve it, but I'm on a VERY tight timetable for other work just now, so I don't know how soon I'll get to it.

Team Player: I actually picked up the machine gun by mistake (was trying to pick up the Glock beside it), but the large clip came in handy upstairs! lol I tried just running through the lower corridor and I ALWAYS keep dying, so lady luck just wasn't on my side Sad

Takedown: I'll look into the shotty, but there's a pair of TMP's on the ground I noticed in my video on the right of the small hut area that I drop down into. So maybe swapping to those and sticking wuith them for a run-'n'-gun would be worth looking into.

The unlimited sprint still works in this game (which is always handy!). Smiley

There's a few more segments online now (almost finished uploading all of Act 2 as I type), so please check it out and let me know what you think.

I would love to help with Spec Ops - IF I had the time to (I only finished this run as I was effectively being 'paid to'. Sorry Sad

Also I understand that if something like a level is optional and can be skipped - which No Russian clearly can in the menu - then for the matter of speed, you can ignore it. Smiley

*edit* Just noticed on SSDD that you only need to kill 18 of the 24 to complete the pit, so I'll look at optimising the 18 quickest targets to kill.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Keep in mind this is IL however, not a continuous run, the level aint hard, at th eend you have to kill all the guys on your ground level, the guys on the building above dont matter, just copy this vid and you'll have it

Wolverines- I hate this level and know nothing about it, so no help here

Hornet's Nest- Looked pretty good to me, I find it funny how abusive the AI is.

Exodus- missing the door and the jump over the brick thingy cost a few seconds but not that much... could you have taken a more direct route to the big house at the end of the road? Was it necessary to kill the guy looking in the fridge? All he wanted was a snack

Of their own accord- Would it have been better to shoot some noob-tubes into some of the rooms rather than shooting everyone? Would it have been better to switch your M4A1 with the Javelin rather than switching your pistol, because running to the top of the building with the pistol would've been quicker.

The Gulag- I would grab either an enemy shotgun or SMG or something similar as early as possible. I know you grabbed the UMP but maybe you could grab one earlier? Not sure if the time taken grabbing it would make up for by running quicker for a little bit, but whatever. It would probably be faster to keep your UMP after the riot shield part rather than running with your M4A1, but then again the noobtubes seem useful, unless you can get through there just as quick with the UMP. You could probably get through the "breach and clear" part quicker with a bit riskier strat. You should be able to run right through the middle without tossing any flashes or grenades, but that's really risky. I would just throw one flash in the third room where the pile of riot shielders come out so they don't block you. Other than that it seems fine. Cool mission

The only easy day...- Yes! Cut his nuts off! I'm guessing you meant to hit the helicopter with that noobtube, if that's the case, it seems like you don't even need to waste the time messing with the noobtube, just keep sprint-jumping with your pistol...Also, as a side-note, why would the guy in the last hostage situation be throwing a gun to another guy? With all that ruckus going on outside, you think they would be prepared a little better

Contingency- Looked pretty good to me.

Second Sun- Not really a lot to say about this one, you have to wait for your team for most of the mission anyway.

Whiskey Hotel- Seemed good

Loose Ends- Wasted a little bit of time knifing the guy at the top of the hill, and you probably could've cleared the house a few seconds faster but not really a huge deal. Otherwise looked good.

The Enemy of the Enemy- It might've been faster to go to the right around the box at the start rather than the left but I doubt it would even save a second. Looked good.

Just like old times- It probably would've been faster to switch to your weapon and kill the 3 guys with your gun instead of using the riot shield. The riot shield seems really slow. Other than that it looked good.

Endgame- That boat jump near the start seemed like it slowed you down, maybe not though. Throwing knives FTW.

Sorry for the somewhat un-informative text. I haven't played solo-campaign in a loooong time. I'm thinking you should go back and try and get some more seconds shaved off before you submit though. Even if you don't, I'm pretty sure it will get accepted since it's still a really good run. Nice job. Smiley

Yea, the one thing about the 'Only Easy Day...' level is the realllllly long intro, it's putting me off improving it (it was also the last level I managed to complete in the run).

I'll take a look at some point soon(ish) to see what levels I can easily shave the most time off.

Thanks for the input. Smiley
more keys then pablo escobar
almost finished spec ops. need 3 more stars. play the crap out of the multiplayer. but cannot get into the single player. mainly because of the first level were you sit in a tank for what seems like an eternity. i wish they would make these cutscenes so you can skip them. i get bored and shoot people i have business shooting and must start from the start again. plus WaW single player cant be topped. so i have no interest in playing it really.
