If I were you, I'd just turn this into a Mega Man 2 thread. (You can mark iPhone in parentheses to the right of your time.) I mean, how many iPhone times do you expect to get? Anyone else?
difficult and stupidly random
Does the iphone version of this game contain any significant differences from the other versions?  (controls, gameplay, etc...)  Anything that would make it harder/easier, or anything that would make the times hard to compare?

Good idea, after I thought about it, I realized that this would probably end up a dead topic, so I'll change it to Mega Man 2 thread.

Yes, there are a few differences. Controls are a little harder on Iphone, there are 3 difficulties on Iphone, I think maybe one or two of the levels are shorter on the Iphone version but not sure, tree man can be defeated in 1 shot with air while it takes 2 heat shots (I'm pretty sure about that but correct me if I'm wrong) and other minor differences...But now that I've changed the topic you can submit an NES version run too. Wink
It's a BIG HEAD!
I was playing my old NES on some morning before going to school and decided to try how quickly could I do this without practice.... I used the Zip Glitch in few places and my time was around the 35 minute mark.

I'm guessing this was on Normal so that's where I put it.

I got a 28:42 with zip glitches on normal mode with an accidental game over, I think everybody's seen it on youtube by now. It was done on the Wii virtual console, plays just like the NES though. I never delved into speedrunning on difficult mode, too infatuated with normal mode since that's where the competition is.

I'm guessing you didn't submit it because of the gameover, but why don't you submit a time w/o deaths, it seems you could easily beat the current time.
I don't even know what the fuck this is
30:03 w/ zips. That was back before Seth's runs at all, I didn't submit it because it wasn't under 30.
30:30 by frezy_man no zip normal NES

btw that 28:42 time was not played on a NES but a wii virtual console, for what it's worth.

So should it be counted as a separate category? Are there differences? I just got it on the Wii too and it seems like an exact port to me.
probably not necessary. The main difference i know of is there doesn't seem to be any lag on the wii virtual console, its possible there are other minor differences but I really cannot say since i've never played it or don't know much about it. Either way its the fastest recorded time, but perhaps mention it.

K, I added it in there.
MM3 (the only one of the three I have any NES experience with) plays, to my memory, exactly the same on the two systems, so I wouldn't bother with extra categories.
There is still alot of lag on the VC version, Practice! Wink
hmm.. maybe i was thinking of the ac collection
Do'h! Homer'D!
I'm a very casual player. MM2 no zip on NES: 47:57

I feel bad for having my name last in the list xD Gonna have to get a bit better time just so that I don't look like a complete fail. Tongue

so pro u don't even know
Necro bumping because I don't want to sift through this forum every time and I will be posting here for AGDQ2 practice stuff.

Wanted to get ideas on a proper route for marathon play, as of now I am using Seth Glass (zips) route. Any thoughts?

i recently got a 34 minute difficult mode zip glitch time on mm2, but i still dont know how to consistently execute the glitch where you scroll to the next screen but end up at the top of it. Also i dont get the glitch on the wily boss that you have to use crash bombs to kill, where you damage yourself to kill 2 of them with one shot. if someone could explain them to me that would be muchly appreciated.

Funny enough, I was recently playing some Mega Man 2 and accidentally performed this glitch in Wily 4.  I didn't even know it existed before this.  I have a highlight of it here: http://www.twitch.tv/rggibson/b/298791631

I can't really explain how to do it since I don't know the details of when it actually works outside of this one case.  Maybe someone else can help out here.
Talk to the Hand
Well, I guess I'll set the bar (Low) for Difficult Mode no Zip Glitches.

I have a rather terrible time of 48:26. Of note is that you have to modify some things slightly from the Normal Glitchless route (Shooting the first dog in Wood Man's stage with Atomic Fire doesn't leave you enough to kill Wood Man, although it may be faster anyway). I'll work on getting the time down further.
In the infinite
Cool new times! Nice to see people finally adding to the difficult category.

Also cleaned up the board a bit. Quotes are ugly, as are iphone times.
I think it's faster to kill Woodman with Air Shooter on Difficult, rather than waiting for Atomic Fire to charge twice.  That's how Seth Glass did it on his record run anyway.

I guess I'll just say that my best time on Normal, no zip glitches, is 32:45. I haven't timed myself on Difficult yet, and I am too bad at the glitches to bother timing those.

buebeam trap double kill glitch is dependent on the position of the crash bomb you shoot in relation to the enemy in the middle of the right wall. you have to shoot the crash bomb so it goes above the enemy, but not too far above. then when the crash bomb begins its explosion animation you can walk into the enemy at the bottom right corner and if the crash bomb positioning was correct you'll kill that enemy as well. it takes some experimentation to figure out, watch seth's runs with zips for a demonstration.

don't know what you're talking about with "glitch where you scroll to the next screen but end up at the top of it." there are several vertical zips in the route, dunno if you're talking about a specific instance, the glitch itself in general, or something else entirely.

also yes, air shooter is faster than atomic fire vs. woodman on difficult mode.
thanks for all the stuff. i think I got the wily 4 boss glitch down, but still working on the vertical zips. and for anyone who has trouble on the zipping to the left, I have gotten it to work almost every time by waiting until you are pushed above the ceiling, and then tapping the jump buttton and immediately tapping left, had to be facing right when you were pushed into the wall originally. for the ones where you are not pushed out of the visible screen, just use another item1 and then press left. a bit long but thats how i do it. dont know if theres an easier way.
