Not sure if this is the right place to post this, so sorry if it is.
Ok, what I am about to say will seem extremely farfetched and I don't expect any of you to believe me. Nonetheless, I would like to get this down because it is one of the strangest things I've ever seen happen.
My younger brother, 12 years of age was playing Mario Sunshine (PAL) on our PAL Wii. He is a special needs child, and can't really communicate... he also can't play the game very well and I rarely see him get a shine. That's not the point. I left him to his own devices on Account B of the game, with 9 Shines. Bianco Hills was unlocked, as was Gelato Beach. Ricco Harbor was NOT. Anyway, he goes into Gelato Beach, and I leave the room. I come back in half an hour, and he has 98 SHINES. All the stages are unlocked including Bowser. At first I thought it was just on of my saves that he loaded, but the only saves on the Memory card had for 2, 9 and 8 shines, as I use a different card for my playthroughs. What makes matters strange, and the only thing I can do to prove it isn't a hoax, is when he collects Blue Coins in this odd save, they do not register. The counter doesn't go up, even though the Blue Coin message appears. We saved and turned off the game, but the save was still there. 98 Shines.
Here's a video I recorded on the day. Basically it shows my brother collecting a Blue Coin with the counter remaining on 0.
I don't know if it's a corruption of the Memory Card or the actual Game that's doing this. I hope it's the latter. I don't expect you to believe me, I really don't. But If this glitch can be repeated then Mario Sunshine Speedruns could get much faster.
