Well, in spite of that incredible suckiness, I have good news...

I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!

...And segment 8 is complete.

I think this is good, but I'd like you guys' opinion, too.

Much as I'd love to nitpick at that last segment, not many improvements come to mind.  Namely, upon entering the inner portion of the hideout, why don't you assign the Deku Mask and Zora Mask in one pause screen, rather that assigning them on separate occassions?  You also mistakenly opened up the pause screen before knocking the beehive, but that's totally excusable.  I know it doesn't really affect in game time, but it still seems a bit off.

Aside from those tiny things, everything seems kosher to me.  Excellent shooting with the Deku Bubble, by the by.
A very good segment. This is the first one of yours that I watch and your great use of glitches make me wanting to see the other segments.

I'm waiting for the nexts ^^.

Still working on Segment 9.  Flying with the Fixed camera is proving more difficult than expected.

However, check this out.  I'm not sure if it will be used in the run, but it's neat, anyway.

A timesaver:

Not my video, but I don't know if it's old.

It only leads to a heart piece.

Dragorn did something very similar to that in his 100% run, although that looks easier than what he did.

At any rate, it's useless in an any% or game time run, as neither sets foot in the graveyard.

So...we may have a segment 9...

There are a number of mistakes, though all are little-to-no time cost.  The thing is, the Bomb jump, backflipping onto the platform, flying in fixed camera, and landing on the final platform are VERY difficult to do in succession like this, so I'd rather not redo this segment.  I've tried a number of times and just could not pull it off again.  So, what do you guys think, keep or throw?
To quote what I commented on YouTube:

The mistakes look sloppy (okiyama reference unintended), but whether you want to redo it or not is up to you, since it's true that they don't cost game time.
Looking good so far Petrie =). Love this game.

And if you love the music, be sure to check this out

All Majora's Mask songs played on piano. Neat stuff.
Long answer: Petrie I took a look at your "possible" segment 9, and I say keep it.  I think you were a little too harsh on yourself and overstated how big your "mistakes" were.  Misstepping in the monkey's den and misplaying a song aren't a huge factor, IMO.  The benefits after maximizing those are limited, especially when you consider any other mistakes you coudl make which might cancel them out anyway.

Short Answer: Keep it.

Well, I'll just say this:

You get the major SB's and tricks done flawlessly. And it's understandable that after getting that done perfectly you'd be nervous, or etc...

Every run, every segment has mistakes. The ones in this may be obvious, but the huge sequence breaks being pulled off FLAWLESSLY makes up for it. 0_o;
If this weren't a least game time run then I'd say redo it. Since it is though, those mistakes cost you next to nothing, so i say keep it.

Well, as seems to be the general consensus, I'm going to move on.  I think completing all of Woodfall now is a little faster than getting the bow and coming back with the Fire arrows, as it the time saved with them doesn't really make up for the time spent backtracking.   I'll have to endure the Tatl cutscene after Odolwa, but as a least game time run, that doesn't really matter.

Heh, for all the sequence breaking I'm doing, I'll still finish the dungeons in the intended order.

EDIT: Scratch that, I'm splitting the temple.  It's clearly fastest to split it right after getting the Boss Key.

Excellent.  Segment 10 done

Also, quick thing I found while playing around in Woodfall.

Enjoy!

Couldn't you manually shoot the frog, rather than wasting all of those arrows up until he stops moving?
I was wondering that myself.  Seems like it could save up to around 10 seconds.

You're right.  Originally, I wasn't going to redo, but now that I think about it, I really should.

I still have the save, so no worries.

EDIT:  OK, so manually aiming at Gekko is proving more diffcult than initially hoped.  And 10 seconds is a bit much for how much time it could save.  I'd say it's more like 5, and I'd have to get some very quick shots on him to manage that.

All in all, I think I'll just go on to Snowhead, unless anyone thinks this whole Gekko thing is absolutely necessary.
It's not that it's neccessary... it just looks incredibly obvious, even to casual people like myself.  And it's not like it's an incredibly difficult trick to pull off.  I don't think its neccessary to redo, but it would certainly make the segment look more polished.

You'll never live this down.

"You can't cut back on funding!  You will regret this!"

Seriously, though, it's preferable that you go back and fix it.  It's a small mistake, sure, but I don't think it's so small that you can overlook it.  People will be talking!
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
OK, I will try manual aiming as I think I've got the hang of it.

It seems manual aiming's time advantage is largely dependent on how close Gekko is to his wall when he hops toward it.  If he's very close, you won't hit him until he stops, anyway, as he'll scamper up the wall before you can even get your bow out.  Thus, Z targetting is equal there, and you're more likely to hit him, too.  However, if he's far from the wall, as in my segment, you can get your bow out and nail him much faster manually.

So, I'm off to redo the segment.

Yes!  Just got a 12:59 (~5 second improvement).  I only got 1 hit on Gekko manually (the last hit), but the other 2 were fairly fast Z-target hits.  The key to getting a good time on him is to get 1 or 2 manual shots off at him, and if those miss, switch to Z-targetting.  Anyways, I really don't think I'll redo, as 12:59 is a really good time.

I'll post it once it's encoded, which may take a while.

EDIT: and here it is!

just asking...
your final time will be the last hit at twinmold?because waiting for midnight of the 3rd day and fighting on the moon
would be quite senceless i guess...
Speed is the key.
Great run so far, petrie. Smiley

Any plans for a pure speed run after this?
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
Nah, DLH has that covered, and he seems to be doing fine.

Might try Master Quest, though.  Or perhaps do a SA2 Hero Story run to complement my Dark one.  And of course, eventually I'll try the MM low%.  That'll be interesting.
