I can't help you with Mupen... sorry.

I was going through the run pretty well... and ran into a problem.

I got to Woodfall Temple Part 1

There, it says to hover to the switch, and avoid it.

Which switch? There are two in the room. It also says it only takes four bombs.

Where do you hover from? I'm lost x_X

I messed up on the Skullkid Cutscene (start from the Deku Flower, right?)

And I also messed up getting all of the Rupees before having the Deku Mask. When you say get 99, is that supposed to be from outside? I didn't get magic and all the Rupees before the carnival... x_X;

And the invisible ice block jumping... *scowls*

Great route so far, though! I'm sure the run will be great when its finished!

It's the switch to the right of you in the room after the first room.

Haha  Tongue

Yes, you're supposed to get them all from outside.  You should usually get around 91-99.  Missing a few doesn't matter, you're bound to pick up a few random rupees during the route.

You should know the invisible ice block jumping part by heart.

I think I'll just work on both speedruns at the same time.  I have almost mastered PoP: TTT by heart (I can go thorugh the whole game in my head ;)) so it won't be a problem.  Plus I still have 3 weeks until school.

I'll probably make my first segment as soon as a route is planned out (help?).

Should I make a new topic for my speedrun?  I want to do something like what TSA is doing for his run (posting each segment as he completes it).

Also, what time do you think is possible to achieve with all these new tricks?

Don't bother going outside.  Just grab the 100r chest in the Stock Pot Inn.  Actually, you could net yourself some extra rupees that way by going outside after getting that chest.  hmm...
Zelda Rulez!
meaby I cannot help you anymore dekudude, because you have that route already and you only need practice more. Good luck with it Wink

Can't you only get the key for the room where the chest is from 2-4 PM on the first day though?
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
not that room, the room next to it.  The one in which Kafei and Anju get married when you complete that particular sidequest.  It's locked until night of the third day, IIRC.

He's back!
I'll say this once very clearly since this is the mistake I made at first, this is what someone said to me when I first done it

You shouldn't record movies from save states

Quoted for emphasis.

Always record the movie from the start and just provide the savestates if you want us to see one specific bit. If that causes you a lot of grief then just capture in some kind of video format i.e. FRAPS. Camstudio or create an AVI with Mupen.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I see...  but then what's the point of having record from snapshot if it's useless?

Future support maybe.  Mupen is still pretty raw and rough around the edges.

Ah, right.  I keep forgetting it's only version 0.5...

Anyway, I *think* I have a way to solve this problem.  Make sure it's paused when you start playback, then load this state, then unpause.  I think this will work, but I can't be entirely sure.

EDIT: Err...wrong state.  the correct state is here

I'm pretty sure that the route posted will work.  Now we just need someone willing to TAS it...

I think you should definitely give it a shot. You came up with the route, done several neat tricks etc. Seriously, think about it.

He recorded from save state because he only did the great bay temple (one specific bit)

Yeah, that is implied from the way the movie is recorded ;).

Problem is, that mupen movie files have to be recorded from the very beginning of gameplay for it to play back.

You then provide a save-state showing where one wants to start.  It acts as sort of a marker telling mupen where to read the movie file from.

It's annoying, and in SNES games, we (tasvideos) often do some demos/glitches from snapshots, but we never submit publishable movies started from a savestate, although SMK might be an exception (start from a certain SRAM config to get to open 150cc).
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
the movie plays back for me, but at frame 12800 (or so) it desyncs. you have to uncheck raw data in input settings for it to play back.

petrie, it looks pretty cool, you should consider make a TAS of the entire game, since you have knowledge of the game. is there any explanation somewhere how to do those bomb jumps?
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
It desyncs? damn...  I might be able to fix that.

Just for the record, what happens at frame 12800?  I have a feeling it's the blue chuchu room, but I'm not sure...

Oh man this re-routing is hard.  I got segment 1+2 planned and will probably do them tonight after I buy some CD-R's (zelda music sucks, I need my own).

(Route by petrie911 with all little editing by me)  Smiley

Segment 1
- make way to Clocktown
- go to the Stock Pot Inn via the flower and 2nd floor door
- listen to Anju's grandma's long story twice (3rd day)
- go to Trading Post; Scarecrow warp to 3rd night
- go back to ECT, get the stray fairy
- collect 99 rupees from Stock Pot Inn
- get magic
- deposit all rupees
- backflip onto clock tower ledge, wait for cutscene
- get Ocarina, learn Song of Time, warp back in time

Segment 2
- Deku mask, Song of Healing
- Slash owl statue
- ECT 99 rupee chest, buy bombs (-50)
- Deposit 49 (bank: 148)
- Mt Village early seam climb
- backwalk to the Owl statue, then to ledge right before lens of truth cave
- Jump the invisible blocks, obtain lens of truth
- Backtrack to the frozen waterfall (backwalking)
- Climb up the ladder, play song of healing for Darmani, get Goron Mask
- Song of Time

Any help for the next segment will be very highly appreciated and will also mean segmet 3 will be done sooner.

Side-hops.

How come you're never on MSN anymore, Dekudude?  If you go on more often I can explain some stuff to you.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
You need good timing with backflips AND you need to use the sword glitch bomb as your first hover explosive.  You can use five if you wish; I believe there's enough extras.
... oO;
I got it in like, 7 Tongue It'll do. I can easilly restock on snowballs etc.

If you're still doing the old jumpslash method for climbing the seam for Mountain Village Early, I suggest doing it this way:

It's easy, fast, and once you get a hang of it, it should work 100% of the time.

You smile too much.  LoL
... oO;
Hmm... I tried that. I think the logic behind it works somewhat differently in the N64 version. However, that could just be me and my lameness.

I may do it in my run, and I may not. I'm weird like that, so I don't know Tongue

OK, let's try this m64.  Same snapshot, new file.  Hopefully it doesn't desync.

BTW, if the bomb explodes on the blue chuchu, I'll kill someone.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1645/GBTfast.m64
It now desyncs at frame 15000 or so. At least it does for me, you better check by yourself.

Don't know this game very well, but you're walking somewhere as zora link and then you fall down to water.

When you're making a movie, you should always stop the recording once in a while to check that the movie plays correctly, and make backup of the working movie.

Don't know what could cause the desync, but here's the FAQ: tasvideos.org/DesyncHelp.html
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
Well, I don't know what's been causing it to desync, but I've made another one, and I've watched it, and I know it doesn't desync.  Here it is:
