Hey everyone! Thanks for stopping by Cheesy

So I am still very new to speedrunning and I just finished routing a game that I thought would be an awesome speedrun. Not too long after I realized that it would have pretty cool marathon potential. As you've already guessed from the title that Game is called Luminous Arc 3: Eyes which is the 3rd and final installment of it's series. It is japanese only but I've been running it on emulator so I can use the ongoing fan-lation into english to know what my items are. The current time I've gotten is about 3:45 hours using a NG+ file with all lvl 99 characters but I refused to make highlights because twitch kicked me offline and I didn't notice for around 30 minutes and then my connection was sketchy for the rest of that day. I imagine the run could be pushed down to about 3:30 with optimizations because my route seems to be incredibly stable and there is basically no RNG for the majority of the run.

For those of you who do not know much about this game/series it is a strategy RPG where each character is it's own unique class with their own unique abilities. The reason I chose the 3rd game is mostly because of the new battle mechanics introduced in the game where you can manipulate how soon your characters come back up for their turn by choosing not to attack/move or choosing particular abilities. There is one character in the game that has an ability so that they increase another characters AO (action order) which affect how quickly your character scrolls across the top screen before they get their next turn. I have a highlight demonstrating this: http://www.twitch.tv/mystelf/c/3641953.

Speedrunning concerns for the game:

Currently I'm looking into when my main strategy of using lightspeed and then rushing the boss actually wastes time, in other words waiting for the cast animation is not worth it enough for the small amount of speed it grants. This can actually happen in multiple ways. If the map is small enough the character won't stop to take advantage of the boost multiple times for example. Also Inaluna's presence on the map can waste time because her only use is literally to speed up another character and she can end up using several turns waiting for another character to get in range of a boss so I'm also looking into using her as bait for later fights and sometimes even to clear enemies if she can be in the right place at the right time.

I don't know the specifics of the exact caste times for each spell (If anyone wants to look into this for me I'd be eternally grateful!) but I do know that some large wave spells are only worth the time if it's either the only way to guarantee the kill or if you can use them to kill a large enough number of enemies. The biggest culprit of this is Sion who makes her way into many battles because she is one of two characters with 5 move 5 jump and flys. Her only wave clearing spell takes forever to cast and only clears 5 spaces (simple cross) but effectively has a range of 5 on the far cross tips.

A NG file of this game would certainly make a very interesting speedrun and I plan on looking into over the summer since I will have more free time and will have hopefully have updated my computer so I can stream this game for longer stretches. My current estimate on such a category however is 15+ hours because of the final boss and other very late game fights. There are other reasons I think it could easily take that long but it's hard to explainit all without having the game in front of me for demonstration purposes :P. If enough people are interested in helping route the NG category I'll make an introductory video and post a link the thread explaining my general plan for the category.

Marathon Ideas:

So since this game actually has 12 distinct endings [maybe 13 if Levi can just go to sleep and not talk to a friend] (one for each character other than the main hero in which the main hero and the selected character develop a romance/bff relationship) it would naturally lend itself nicely to waifu wars. But since strategy games and especially NG+ runs of them can be very boring when you know exactly how the battle is supposed to play out as fast as possible it could be nice to have some variety. My proposal is to have the Waifu war current donation rankings, which could easily change every ten minutes or so for each chapter switch, be used to determine which characters I use for the chapter. It also would be based on the idea that the current chapter number is the first required character so that each character can make an appearance (or not if the donators keep sniping the person in last up to first :P). For example CH 7 would take the 7th ranked character first and then the 8th ranked character if needed (which it usually isn't so early in the run). Another example would be for CH 13 I would take the last place waifu (there are only 13 characters) and then the first place one. Ch 14 would wrap back round to the first place person first and the ENDGAME chapter (#26) would be chosen from the winner and 4 runners up to the waifu war. There would need to be a restriction to where I could always use Inaluna beyond any other characters for any battle and for the final battle I would take Levi and his harem of 5 to battle for the 6 character limit.

There are other marathon type incentive/challenge hidden in the game such as NPC convos, kopin theater, secret quests, ect. It should be noted that 100% requires at least 3 plays through the story (or more if you can't read japanese and have to find a walkthrough to get everyone to like you :P) and most of these incentive ideas come from having completed 100% of the content.
Thread title:
I'm currently in the process of rerouting the game. During which time i found out that Levi the main character can run... I feel stupid but it isn't natural to hold B on a keyboard and I accidentally found out about it since switching to a PC controller. I'm also noticing that a lot of the time i need to make sure that I don't use long spells unless it's for a multikill. You can help with this process at http://twitch.tv/mystelf.

As for the NG speedrun, that will have to wait until I get video proof of my PB/WR and I don't have as much enthusiasm for it this summer as I originally thought.
